Comic Book Question of the Week Results: 02/26/13 'Who Should Be Robin?'

The community has voted and the next Robin will be...

The second 'Comic Book Question of the Week' has now come and gone. This week, I asked who you would want to see as Robin. A scenario was provided where the Boy Wonder left on his own terms, therefore making it fairly reasonable to believe Wayne would be okay with finding a replacement for his partner's tiny boots.

377 Viners voted and it was a close race between Harper Row -- the girl we believe will likely one day be a part of the Bat-family -- and Stephanie Brown, the fourth Robin. In the end, the community made it clear: they want to see Stephanie Brown in The New 52 and they'd love to see return to the Dark Knight's side as Robin again.

"Batman and Robin will never die!"

I must admit, I'm surprised Cassandra Cain didn't receive more votes. There's been plenty of demand to see her appear in The New 52, but I guess the thought of Stephanie Brown patrolling the streets once again with Batman is just too fun of a thought to resist.

It's too bad she wouldn't be able to interact with Damian if she did come back, though... they had such great moments together when she was Batgirl.

That said, I voted for Hit-Girl. I by no means think she'd be the "best" choice -- not by a long shot, actually -- but seeing Wayne try to reform her lethal methods as he takes her under his wing would be incredibly amusing. Although, if we're aiming for the most amusing, Doc Ock in a tight Robin costume is disturbingly hilarious...

Here's the voting results:

Viners, would you want Stephanie Brown to be the next Robin or did you vote for someone else? Don't forget to check back Tuesday for the next 'Comic Book Question of the Week!'

Tim Drake is the leader of the Teen Titans now so I doubt he wants to go back to sidekick. Harper Row really hasn't impressed me enough that she should be a Robin. The others are just too random lol.

my guess is for the next 12-24 issues of Batman and Robin, it'll be team ups with the old Robins. after that either Damian returns or an established character takes the mantle.

No more Robins! if Batman takes on another Robin it would show how little he cared about his only biological son by replacing him after he died in battle. It would be an insult to the fans as well to say this event didnt matter bc Batman has moved on and now Damians uniforms hangs as a reminder of what happens to his sidekicks that he chooses to ignore himself.

Part of me feels that they should have ended it with Damian, with him being so young and the fact characters age very slowly (if at all in some cases) they could have spent the next few decades with Damian as Robin growing up, I would have loved to see him as sixteen year old and dealing with teen things such as high school, girls, drama, etc.

But on the other hand, I've warmed up to Harper and I would like to see her take up the mantle of Robin. Having another female Robin would be a nice change in my opinion as for the most part people only know Robin as a boy (most people don't even know there have been female Robins before). Plus I feel there needs to be more female members of the Bat-Family, currently only Batgirl unless you consider Batwoman and Catwoman) is the only female member of the Bat-Family, so with Stephanie and Cassandra in limbo, I feel Harper would be a welcomed new addition to the Bat-Family.

He's better off without a Robin. But unfortunately he'll get another brat to hang off his cape. I can almost see them bringing Damian to the Lazarus Pit and bringing him back in some lame way.

These comments are very interesting, I'd personally be okay if there weren't another Robin, because in my mind despite changing his name a little to Red Robin, Tim is still Robin but more independent & I personally think he's become his own hero. The only problem with this is that kids need a character they can look to. Tim & Dick have both been my favorites growing up and they still are, but Robin is a way for kids to imagine being by Batman's side. I wasn't a Damian fan, but he did relate well to kids and people out there. So in my mind Tim is Robin, we had 2 Robins (Damian & Tim) the past while, but there does need to be another for the kids. So I'm kind of two-sided on this topic.

Another topic being mentioned while reading through this discussion I noticed people were talking about who should be Oracle. I've got an answer for that myself. Chloe Sullivan should be Oracle, she was introduced before the new 52 reboot, but hasn't appeared since from what I understand, I think she'd be the perfect Oracle.

I think Stephanie should return as Spoiler and a member of Teen Titans to develop a relationship with Tim Drake who would initially not trust her as the daughter of a known criminal.

Do people realize how much the character would have to change to make Steph a Robin? first thing they would do is make her between 13 to 16 years of age Tim is between 18 and 21. So the pairing of Steph and Tim would be out the window unless you are a creepy pairing kind of person.

Cass would be stupid as a Robin, Cass was always the badass ninja batgirl to degrade her character by making her a Robin is just down right insulting of the character to the point what Didio did to her character in OYL would seem tame and ask any Cass fan how much they hated OYL Cass.

I think if DC are smart enough to bring Steph back and make things a bit more light hearted after what happened with Damian, that'd be good to have her as Robin.

Otherwise it'd be nice to bring in Cass for Robin.

@bunkerbuster05: That can easily be rectified by having a previous Robin team up with Bruce over issue or arc.

I didn't vote this week. I didn't know who to vote for. Hopefully next week I can with ease. This is a very fun thread/article/idea/segment/series you've created K4TZ.

  • Stephanie Brown-I was debating on voting for the 1st 4 on this list
  • Harper Row: I was going to vote for her since I thought it was Roy Harper, but then I realized it wasn't so I was too disappointed to be certain I would vote for her.
  • Tim Drake: For me its like picking Nightwing. I prefer him not going back to be Bats sidekick even though he(bats) needs support.
  • Cassandra Cain: As Robin? Hell No! I probably would have voted for her though, If I remembered about this yesterday.
  • Hit-Girl: I wanted to vote for her, but she's not even from DC. I wanted my vote to be more realistic than fun.
  • Michelangelo: I love him but NO
  • Wally West: A super fast robin does not intrigue me
  • Doctor Octopus: (his lack of votes is disturbing) No him as Robin is disturbing
  • Jubilee: Really?
  • Prowler: Again not DC

I think its way too soon to even consider a new Robin, but I do think Harper Row is definitely going to be a new addition to the Bat-family. Maybe as Robin, or maybe as a brand new identity.

Although I voted Steph, and would like to see her in the New 52 (preferably as Spoiler), it's be better if Tim went back as Batman's sidekick but still as Red Robin, as it's not really a replacement plus it gives someone for Batman to work with. Plus also it technically keeps the Batman and Robin all be it Batman and (Red) Robin

This is how I feel as well. Since we have a Batman and Robin book, we obviously are going to have another Robin. I just wish we didn't.

I know there were spoilers everywhere for Batman Inc 8, but I avoided them until this poll went up. Not reading it just the title underneath another article title SPOILERS BATMAN INC 8, on top of that the cover (which isn't always literal but still). Disappointing cause it would probably have hit home a lot harder. Not Comicvines fault, but marketing and DC in general I suppose. Too bad. I don't think there should be a new Robin. It just would seem out of character for Batman to do that, especially with his own son and Especially so soon. I like Harper Row, but more of an Oracle character than a Robin. High hopes.

No one. There's going to be a Robin. Probably Harper Row (unless she becomes Oracle). But frankly, if Damian stays dead, it just doesn't make sense for him to have another Robin. He doesn't really need Robin. I get there's stories about why he does, great ones, but the fact is that two out of four Robins have died (even if one did come back). It's absurd and reckless for Batman to take on another kid knowing those odds and I feel like, realistically, Bruce Wayne would have to know this and finally realize that he just can't do it anymore.

I mean, he has a 'no kill' code he stands by... Yet half his partners wind up dying and he continues recruiting? Seems absurd to me. At least make sure they're not freaking children.

i voted for Cassandra. If I had to vote for who I thought they were going to make Robin it would be Harper, but I would rather have Cassandra. Bruce had adopted her pre-New 52, and now we never see her anymore. I guess they wouldn't pick her because her story is too close to Damian's...

This is probably going to offend someone, but for me Robin has always been a guy's role. Batman and Robin don't have the same dynamic if they're a chick. And I get that it'll be different just because it's a new Robin, but still I infinitely prefer a male Robin.

That's partially why I DON'T want Harper Row as Robin. Oracle? Sure, but not Robin.

Hit-Girl is the obvious choice. Cass, I fear, would be too similar to Damian, being a born and bred assassin, who needs to be taught how to live in the normal world. Would someone please explain to me the appeal of Harper Row?! I don't care about her at all, I'm SURE that DC is gonna make her the next Robin, but to me it feels like she's being forced upon us without having any character of her own.

what I can see happening is Harper Row forcing herself into the role. she already seems to be a bit rebellious. Batman will obviously try to stop her but she keeps showing up and shes untrained so Bruce decides the only way to keep this girl alive is to train her.

Realistically, there should be no more Robins. Bruce Wayne can no longer justify putting sidekicks in harms way given his track record. (One could say, however, that Damian was a twisted little cretin before he ever came to Bruce, and Bruce was actually doing Damian a favor by "channeling" Damian's violence.) Comics being comics, however, I'm sure there will be another sidekick to be put in mortal danger by Batman soon enough; gotta appeal to the "teenage sidekick" demographic and keep those sales up.
