Comic Book Question of the Week: 03/19/13 - Save a Comic Book Show

If you had the power to revive one of these shows, which would you save and why?

It has been an especially tough few years for comic book shows on television. We've had the luxury of watching some absolutely fantastic shows, but so many of them have been cut short. Sadly, we live in an era where topnotch quality just isn't enough. At the end of the day, this is a business product, and if it's not meeting the goals the company and network have set -- no matter how unfair or absurd they may be -- then the harsh truth is we'll see them fade away.

Spectacular Spider-Man was stunning yet was thrown on the chopping block. Now we have Ultimate Spider-Man instead and... well, I'll just plead the fifth on that subject. Cartoon Network fans have been hit particularly hard. Not only did we lose Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars also wrapped up. Yes, that show was going to end anyway, but I figured since so many people want to see it stick around there's no harm keeping it as an option on this poll. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is being replaced, Transformers: Prime is being shut down and Wolverine and the X-Men only lasted one season.

You can only bring one back to life!
You can only bring one back to life!

Seeing a show we love bite the dust simply sucks. But, just for this week, let's pretend we have the power to revive just one of these programs. So, this 'Comic Book Question of the Week' is simple: which show would you save and why?

Batman:TAS. Not Batman the new Adventures, specifically the animated series. It was the only show apart from Young Justice that was very true to the comics and dealt with stuff in an adult matter, while still being accessible to kids.

Most of the other shows, are just for kids, although they can still be entertaining.

Wolverine and the X-Men. The series really started to pick up later on, but sadl was ended at the beginning of the Age Of Apocolips Story arch which may have been one of the best story arch ever told in an animated series.

I really do want to see Young justice back, but I mis WAX more.

Oh man, JUST one show???

Out of the list, I got to go with Young Justice. Really, I feel that it could do a lot of things with flashbacks, maybe a start of the Teen Titans, and, of course, DARKSEID. Really, Young Justice was open to the younger superheroes, and I would LOVED to see Cassandra Cain appear.

Spectacular Spider-Man is a close second.

I think we all know Young Justice should be saved in real life, followed by Spectacular Spider-Man, followed by Green Lantern. The other shows can stay damned.

Wolverine and the X-Men. They ended the show right when the Age of Apocalypse was about to start up. Why would you end it on that note of all things?

Green Lantern, had the most potential, but was only given a single season.

Young Justice is another show I loved, but it ended on a good, final note. No reason to overkill it.

Wolverine and X-Men was amazing, I get a extreme sense of euphoria watching the intro!

Never watched the other shows.

  1. Young Justice- I feel they where just figuring out what their strengths and weakness were, and was curious to see who would be introduced in season 3. Damien? Spolier? Get to see what Static would look like.
  2. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes: Really a good blend of using source material and giving each character personality and depth. The Secret Invasion storyline was excellent as was the fights in Asgard. Like to see what they can do with Thanos
  3. Spectacular Spider-Man- Say what you will about the art direction the vibe of the show was pure Spider-Man. WOuld have been nice to see some quest stars on following seasons. Human Torch perhaps?
  4. Wolverine and The X-men: The Merry Mutants have not had that much screen time since X-men:Evoloution and this was a solid show for them. However nothing about the show was "WOW", just OK, but maybe move away from the Jean/Prof mystery and deal with current threats next time?
  5. Green Lantern: was JUST getting good. Season 3 would have been excellent i think, I miss Aya already
  6. Star Wars/Transformers- i wouldn't renew as they have had decent runs. Besides once they killed CliffJumper I was switching the channel anyway lol

HONORABLE MENTION: GI Joe: Renegades, Batman Beyond,Thundercats, and dammit to hell...FREAKAZOID!

Spectacular Spider-Man... no true Spidey fan can like "Ultimate Spider-Man" and the worst part is that it's starting to affect the movies as well... I hate it. After that, Young Justice. I really enjoyed it. And The Avengers, the dub in my country was awesome.

I consider myself a pretty big Spidey fan, have been for 16 years now, and I like Ultimate Spidey cartoon a lot

Spectacular Spider-Man, I just can stand watching the god-awful fan rape of a show that they have now for him.

Otherwise: Avengers EMH and Young Justice, the fact that those two were removed was absolutely absurd, proves Marvel and DC just don't even care when it comes to these shows.

@Sobe Cin: How can you like ultimate spiderman? i guess different preferences then. I preferred spectacular spiderman cause it was intelligently well written, it had plots, twists character developments and it had originality and it stayed faith to the comics and it incorporated elements from the original work of stan lee and from the ultimate comics and movie. It was the type of cartoon to b e enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

Honestly, if i was a kid again i wouldn't watch ultimate spiderman and still wanted spectacular spiderman. The fans are angry because it was left on a cliff hanger when it was getting good.

1: Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes - This show had such PERFECT voice actors and I LOVED how Captain America and Black Panther was written. There was so much awesome potential for other members to show up like Monica Rambeau, Starfox, etc.

2: Wolverine and the X-Men - A lot of promise, Steve Blum as Wolverine, Nightcrawler as a main character. However, they kind of brought the canceling down on themselves with way too many episodes being filler to act like something WAY TOO COOL is coming, and when it did get around to happen, I was too bored to care. A second season would be nice if they tightened up the story arc pacing.

3: Young Justice - I did love this show, but I didn't love certain directions they did character wise, and what with the lousy scheduling and the news of them canceling, I got emotionally dead, so a second season would be nice, but I can move on.

Don't get me wrong, I do love these 3 shows and would love more, but I'm also not kidding myself why they ended.

I love Young Justice and it will clearly win the poll, but I have to give my vote to WATX.

The difficulty in writing that show was pretty extreme because of the two different settings (present and future), so you have the X-Men of the present trying to correct a future gone wrong with bits and pieces of future knowledge. It was a very nice mix of X-Men not an overly powerful group (as far as X-Men go) which meant they had to work as a team. The best part was that the characters were true to themselves.

I would have loved to see a 26 season long episode story line dealing with the AOA. You have to wonder what would cause Scott Summers to ally himself with Mr. Sinister.

Spectacular Spider-Man. It was, in my opinion, the best and most true to the comics adaptation of Spider-Man we've ever seen. There wasn't a single bad episode, the quality of the animation more than made up for any qualms there may have been about the art style, it was pretty much perfect. There was still so much that could've been done with the show, I have no idea how anyone could've justified replacing it with Ultimate Spider-Man, which isn't bad but is juvenile, unintelligent and markedly inferior to Spectacular.

Young Justice I'd also like to see more of, although I'm not going to get all angry and emotional about it like I will if I really get going on Spectacular Spider-Man. It had some great moments, but not all the characters were as fully fleshed-out as they should've been.

Avengers I thought was superior to Young Justice in everything but quality of art & animation, and it left itself wide open for more. I'd expect it to be picked up again with Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2 lurking somewhere in Hollywood's future.

This is damned dirty pool, Gregg.

I like almost all of these shows, and the few I don't I never really gave a chance. If I had to say one though, I would probably go with Avengers EMH. I don't have any reasons beyond my gut check. I just seemed to enjoy it a bit more then Young Justice or Spectacular Spidey, and Wolverine and the X-Men just wasn't quite up to it's level.

Ancient One, I wanted to personally apologize. I feel terrible that us DC fanboys have a different taste than you. I also feel horrible to know that due to this taste difference, a wonderful site is ruined for you. If we could only like the same thing, the world would be grand. Wouldn't it?

Oh, I miss Freakazoid.

I have had some time to think about my initial post. This was supposed to be a comic book cartoon revival. Star Wars has multiple comics, but its origin is with film. So with that in mind, I would want both Young Justice and Wolverine and the X-Men back.
