Chris Burnham's ACTION COMICS #7 Variant Ties the Past to the Present

What do Kandor and Metropolis have in common? If you read issue #4, you have an idea.

A couple months ago in ACTION COMICS #4, we saw glimpses of what happened to Kandor and it looks like Metropolis is facing the same threat. We then had a (great) two-month break as we got to see more of the last days of Krypton along with the early days of young Superman's career. On March 7, we'll get to see what happens next.

Today, DC revealed Chris Burnham's variant cover to issue #7 on The Source.

Rags had already done an excellent job with a literal approach to the bottled city idea, so I decided to go a little more conceptual. The pieces all fell into place for a good, old-fashioned split cover! Superman torn between two worlds! Kandor and Metropolis! Nature and nurture! Teflon and cotton!

The cover also gave me the chance to work with the incomparable Gene Ha’s astoundingly complicated designs for Krypton and Kandor. It was a great challenge to be true to his vision without straight-up tracing what he’d already drawn. Did I pull it off? You decide!

It's a sweet-looking cover. At first the t-shirt, jeans and boots on Superman looked a little odd. Now it's hard to decide which is the better look for him.

Originally Greg Capullo was listed as providing a variant cover. Perhaps we'll see that for a later issue. Here's the solicit for issue #7.

Metropolis has been captured! To save it, Superman must push the limits of his nascent powers as never before! Aboard the ship that has the city captive, The Man of Steel finds an important tool that may help him defeat Metal-zero and his boss!

And as Superman fights foes in the sky, Steel must do what he can to protect those still in danger on the ground in a backup story by Sholly Fisch and Brad Walker!
