Something I’ve noticed from all our coverage of SMALLVILLE is the millions and millions * SNIFF * millions and millions of fans of the show all have very strong opinions plucky Ms. Chloe Sullivan. Some desperately want her to kick the bucket in the upcoming season nine finale. Others love her so much that they even put together a campaign to spread awareness for how “legendary” Allison Mack is. Few seem to be on-the-fence indifferent about the actress or the character.
Those in that second camp (the pro-Chole one) have gotten a couple chips thrown down on their side of the scale. According to EW, the series’ executive producer, Brian Peterson, is “very optimistic” that Ms. Mack will be returning for the tenth season, those he’s careful not to get ahead of himself because contract talks are still going on. Considering that Mack’s been on the series for as long as Tom “Not Superman Yet” Welling, I imagine she’s going to be asking for a raise. Actually, were I to put my “industry analyst hat” on for a moment, I’d say it’s more of an issue of what the actress wants, right now, rather than what the fans want. Ten years is a long time for any gig, let alone an acting job, and I’m sure that, even though this is a steady position, Ms. Mack probably wants to pursue other ventures. That’s the kind of thing that’s surely going to be on the table for these talks.
Even if Chloe Sullivan doesn’t bite it, there’s still plenty to watch out for in the season finale. For one, it looks like half the DCU is going to show up, in addition to (possibly) some OTHER major cast member meeting the grim reaper. If not Chloe, then who? Zod? Tess? Maybe even… Clark?
