Chew Completely Sells Out Again, More Printings On The Way

Have you read John Layman & Rob Guillory's series yet?

Chew #4
Chew #4

I've mentioned a few times what a great and refreshing series Chew (by John Layman and Rob Guillory) is.  Once again, the complete series has sold out within a week, despite the largest overprint on the series.  If you've missed out (for some reason), more reprints are on the way.  The second and third issues will return for one final "Last Bite" edition.

John Layman has expressed his appreciation:

I'm extremely thankful to all the fans and retailers, but I can't say I ever saw this coming. Even though we up the print run considerably every time we do a reprint, we just keep selling out in no time flat. That kind of support for such an odd book is hard to come by. Rob and I highly appreciate the overwhelming enthusiasm

Image will be increasing the printing quantities in order to (hopefully) keep them available.  The third printing of issue two and second printing of issue three will be the final time these issues are reprinted in a monthly comics format.

Chew #2-4 will be made available in comic shops on October 7, 2009 and Chew #5 will be on sale on October 21, 2009.  All will sport a $2.99 price tag.  Check out this series and satisfy that comic book hunger for something new and different that you have.

Ever since I've heard of this series. I've been recommending it to anyone who asks about more obscure titles. It's really nice to see a series out of the norm do so well.

  This shows readers are yearning for more unique titles and I think that's great.  I really dig the concept behind it, appreciate the different art style.

I read the black and white edition in the back of Walking Dead #63, and I thought it was pretty decent. I don't mean to offend anyone, but does someone mind explaining why they think it's selling so well? I thought it was pretty good, but I didn't decide to pick up the second issue (but maybe that's just because I wouldn't have seen them, they're flying off the shelves so fast!). Does the coloring have something to do with it? Please, enlighten me.

I'm confused, is Chew a miniseries or an ongoing?

I was in London visiting their various comic shops there.  Chew was sold out in the first place I visited, but there were still plenty of copies in three other stores.

One popular shop even had it stacked on two shelves to make sure it caught your eye!  They'd stacked dozens of issue 4 with reprints of the first 3 issues.  It made me laugh to hear one guy try to sound impressive, when he loudly told his non-comic-reading friend that "You can tell a comic isn't selling well, when they have ****-loads of copies on the shelf".  I was too busy laughing to tell him they were 2nd & 3rd printings because it is so ****-ing popular ;)

@Anderson: Agent of SMITH:

This was my reaction also. Decent, but nothing to write home about.

It's ongoing.

It's a terrific series and it doesnt rely solely on its gimmick each issue.

The only bit of skepticism I have about the book is that it has one artist handling all the duties. Can he really produce 12 issues a year on time?
