Chew #3, You Should Take A Taste Of This Series

G-Man takes a bite out of Chew.

I've been hearing  a lot about this series since it first came out.  The first two issues sold out right away.  Because of that, I just kept missing it.  This week Image reprinted the first two issues along with issue #3.  It's a different type of comic which is what makes it worth checking out.  You can't argue with the writing and art either.   I'm kicking myself for not reading this sooner but at least I got to read issues 1 through 3 in one sitting.

Seriously, try tracking these issues down and check them out.  If you've read the books, what do you think?  Would you want to have Tony Chu's powers?  I suppose it'd make you think twice about eating meat.

The Chew wiki entry here on comicvine says that the protagonist is, "Cibopathic".

google, dictionary.com, and wikipedia do not bring up results for this word...

Does anyone know, is the word specific to this comic?  and what does it mean?

but its one of the most original and refressing books i have actually read in quite awhile.
i suggest it to anyone, if they have the guts.

I'm not gonna lie, I did feel a little sick afterwards.  I filmed early in the morning.  I couldn't let the food go to waste so I had to eat it all.  But the comic made it worth it.

This series really is wonderful, my LCS guy told me to go grab it and I wasn't disappointed, 50 bucks for the first issue already though?  Wow, I knew it had taken off, but that's just crazy talk.

Well...I've heard of some strange plots...but this takes the cake. I'm a strange kind of guy...so I'm in! That's about as original as they come.

the comic is also hysterical. not just the vomit humor, but the creepy guy with the box, tony visiting his friend in the hospital, etc.

the only potential drawback is about the art workload. one guy doing ALL the art duties seems like getting 12 issues out in a year would be really difficult.

That sums it up perfectly.  I think people will be put off because it isn't the usual spandex & super-powers.  But the fresh concept & sense of humour (and art) make this stand out.

It wasn't until I read issue 3 that I realised that it was page after page of story.  It isn't cut up with the usual full-page adverts that Marvel & DC do.  It's been so long since I've read a comic that it 'pure' story telling, with the adverts on the last page.  As daft as it is, I think it's small touches like that which make this a more enjoyable read.

I have enjoyed this series from the start. My big hope is that it can sustain the long haul. Creator owned books are the bomb because of the unknown. The Marvel DC main characters can have a lot of things happen to them, but inevitably there will always be a Robin or Batman or Wolverine. There is definitely no guarantee that there will always be a Tony Chu.

And let me note that the sloppy joe I was eating was made with soy meat.  Still taste good.

Roxanne got me hooked on to this just in time for me to grab the last copy of #1 on the shelf...  It's great!  It's also witty and hysterical.  Although all the foody names are becoming a bit   clichéd.  And it is bizarre timing that this project which has taken months/years to develop features Bird Flu and has come out a time when the H1N1 virus.  It reminds us of how governments can react so severely to circumstances beyond their control.

But this is a brilliant series.  Each new issue is something to look forward to!  It's witty, original, and has a twisted sense of humour!  On top of it all is Guillory's art is just genius!  What's not to love!

Somehow they took an unbelievable premise and made a book out of it that you can't help but get drawn into. The writing is snappy and the art is crisp, the two major things I look for in my buy pile. I plowed through the first 3 issues and can not wait until #4 ships.
