So many shots of guns :(

Can't wait to see it!!

I think Benedict Cumberbatch is gonna do a stellar job in this film. Will watch it because he is a great actor and because the first one got a lot of high ratings.

LOL is that a bad thing?

Benedict was great in BBC's Sherlock series. It also looks like he's been working out. Dude's got some guns.

@CaioTrubat: Not really I guess. I mean I really did enjoy the last one but seeing that they are promoting this one like that it just reminds me that its still not really the Star Trek I want. I never watched all those other shows and movies for the shooting and fighting (except for Kirk's two handed club of course).

I see the lens flares will still be there :p

Set phasers to stun.

It's still not 100% but I'm think the bad guy is Gary Mitchell as opposed to Khan

Going to be awesome!

@Nightwing28710:

Correction "set phasers to fun".

I didn't really care for Star Trek until that last film came out and I thought it was great so I'm really looking forward to this

My guess is Cumberbatch is playing Q from Next Generation instead of Kahn.

Looks awesome

That's Carol Marcus!

@Happenstance: Everyone in the future is a member of the NPA. That is 'National Phaser Association'.

Well this is Star Trek, right?

Is that Thor in the background?

The "official" name of Cumberpatch's character-nemesis for STiD is "John Harrison", but I'm pretty sure that's just a big disinformation campaign. Karl Urban himself in an interview a while back said that Cumberpatch is playing Gary Mitchell. On a side note, Kirk's baby-mama Carol Marcus is so fine here...

Are we certain this is Carol Marcus? When I saw the trailer before watching The Hobbit, My first thought was Christine Chapel. Now, I'm thinking she looks a lot like Dr. Elizabeth Dehner. AND now I'm thinking that Cumberbatch is playing Gary Mitchell like RedheadedAtrocitus mentioned earlier. This makes a lot more sense to me than Cumberbatch playing Khan.

Either way, the movie does look interesting, as long as they don't mess up the Spock/Uhura awesome.

I read this yesterday,

Beautiful gesture I would say..

Thought Bruce Greenwood said in a Comic Vine interview that he didn't want to comeback?

Yes, its not speculation, she is officially Dr Carol Marcus.

Cumberbatch... who knows. His officially released character name probably is some sort of alter ego.

Also, I went back and read all the new issues of the new Trek comic series, the one that Robert Orci says is offiical canon for this universe and both Gary Mitchell and Kirk's brother have been accounted for within the comic series.

The new hypothesis is Cumberbatch is a 'red shirt' that had to be abandoned by Kirk (when you look at the shots/scenes of Cumberbatch behind glass, it seems to support that theory), and thought was dead, but apparently comes back with some crazy super powers for revenge. Now, as to WHAT or WHO that power is, still a mystery.

Something else a few people miss is that Peter Weller has a yet-to-be-named role in the movie. Peter Weller previously appeared in the final episodes of Enterprise as a xenophobic leader of a human terrorist group who wanted to eliminate all aliens from Earth...a terrorist group that specialized in genetics. Hmmmmmm....

Oh, and just wanted to add... not totally against the Mitchell idea. Just saying if you took those things into consideration, it would SEEM like it might not be Mitchell... but then agian, all of that could be more misdirection to make people think its not Mitchell. You never know with Abrams and his cruddy penchant for secrets.

@Alchemax_7:

Well, he was Kirk's father. :P

Eh, I'll go see it, but as a long time fan of original Trek, I'm not getting geeked about it. Plus, anything Robert Orci is involved in has the taint of hack writer.

@ThomasElliot: Well, the new hypothesis being abandoned by Kirk and coming back with super powers really sounds like Mitchell to me. At this point, what Star Trek villian hasn't been suggested as the character Cumberbatch is playing?

Looks awesome.

Can't wait!

Um, nope, I'd say not. He kinda died at the beginning of the last film, so... yeah. ;]

Except Kirk, in either universe, never successfully abandoned Mitchell, they attempted to abandon him and failed and ultimately had to kill Mitchell. Which also goes back to comic where Mitchell is dead (shot in the heart with a phaser rifle set to kill). The idea floating around about the new flick is this character was left behind and now its months later and the guy finds his way back to Earth.

Again, never say never... you never know... maybe they are able to sum up the entire Mitchell thing in the first 10 minutes and then he comes back. Its what they did with old Spock in the first movie... his montage-summary of how it all came to be was actually a summary of a 4-issue mini-series.

Also, everyone talks about red herrings and misguiding lies from Abrams, et al., yet no one's considered that the whole TOS-villain thing was a lie to begin with.

I look forward to the movie for sure and can't wait to see it, regardless who the character turns out to be (though I will be super-annoyed if it ends up being Khan).

Posted by Miss_Garrick

@ThomasElliot: I'm looking foward to the film and will be super-annoyed if it's Khan too!!

She's credited to be Carol Marcus but I thought Marcus had a darker complexion. I know this is suppose to be a different timeline and all, but she's too blond for the role. She does seem like she should be Christine Chapel... but Abrams does like to twist things around. =)
