Check Out Mike Allred's FF Covers

To commemorate the new FF team, Allred has given us a look at the variant covers to issue's 2 to 5.

You may have heard that artist Mike Allred is going to be taking over artistic duties on some Marvel titles. Recently, he appeared alongside Mark Waid on DAREDEVIL #17 in what turned out to be one of the series' better issues. Not too long ago Marvel announced that Allred's talents would be appearing on other titles as well. Earlier this month is was announced that Allred would be joining writer Matt Fraction as the artist on FF, the new Future Foundation title.

Not only would the series be getting a new creative team, but it will see all-new members as well. The new team will include Ant-Man, Medusa, and She-Hulk; certainly a big change from the focus on the Fantastic Four kids. To commemorate the new team, Allred illustrated four variant covers to issue's 2 to 5 of FF, each cover spotlighting an individual members. When placed side by side, the covers create one large image of the team. Ant-Man will grace the cover of the series' second issue, Medusa will be the variant for issue #3, Miss Thing will be featured on the variant cover for issue #4 and She-Hulk on issue #5.

What do you think of the covers? Are you looking forward to Allred's more permanent return to Marvel comics in the upcoming FF series? Have you been reading FF and FANTASTIC FOUR? Are you excited about the changes to the team and to the creators on the titles?

the art is awesome, ( YES AWESOME, not ugly or terrible!!) but the team is not thrilling me as much. Not what I had in mind when I thought She Hulk would return to the FF. She should have been in a FF white and black suit

Ms Thing...?really??

I can't believe all of the negative comments; it's something different and fun. I'm excited about this book more than any other. I wonder if people had these knee jerk reactions when Allred's X-Force run was revealed? That turned out pretty great, right? I think some reader's need to expand their art style tastes and learn to appreciate the artistic achievement's of someone like Allred. It's not "poor" or "terrible", it's a different style of drawing, it's okay not to like it, but you can't argue that it isn't really well done. Some of the best coloring of Allred's work I've seen.

Love love love Allred's style. I think his She Hulk is especially awesome. I'm really looking forward to this book, his X-Force/X-Statix stuff is some of my favorite off beat marvel stuff ever. Fraction's not too shabby either usually...

I really love the talent behind this book, but I have almost zero interest due to the characters. She-Hulk is ok. Ant Man, maybe (too bad it's not Pym). As for Medusa and Girl Thing....NO. I won't be picking this book up!

@PsychoKnights: The main plot is Scott Lang wanted to end Doom for ending his daughter. I'm very excited.

And the art isn't BAD! It's a nostalgic 60's style! What's wrong with you people?

I like how She-Hulk is drawn. It looks a little silly tho albeit Mike Fraction's interview concerning it on Comic Book Resources was great.

@hyenascar: Well the best way to describe his art is the retro look and feel to it. If you ever look at one of his books like Madman or his run on X-Force you get a better feel for how work flows in a story.  I'll admit when I first saw his work I felt the same way you do.  If you ever looked at actual older comics like from the 60s and you appreciate that style of the artists of the time you'll like his work. Basically he has a modern retro style. His artwork with a great story can be really enjoyable.  Take the last season of Batman the animated series. They totally simplified the artwork, which was a turn off to me at first but some of the episodes had the best writing I'd seen.  I can't promise the book will last forever but don't let what a could be a great story pass you by just because of Allred's work.

Miss Thiing's not been in a single issue yet. You're all saying she's awful and the worst thing ever basing your opinon entirely on your own shallowness which is hypocritical because most you nerds would complain about girls doing that exact thing to you in real life...just sayin'.

@PsychoKnights: With Deodato tracing his characters with 3D poser programs and Greg Land outright tracing characters, I don't see why we can't experiment around. Art isn't always stable. Art constantly changes. One of my biggest pet peeves about art in comics now a days is that a lot of it tries to be this ultra realism with maximum shading and too much browns and blues. Give me this 60's style any day!

Are you serious? There's some excellent work from that age. Now, I'd give you that the coloring techniques of that age and writing are lacking by today's standards, but there's some terrific art.

To each their own. I much prefer modern style. I hope the comic industry does experiment, but I will not be picking up those sorts of experiments.

I was probably a bit harsh. It was good for its time, but...just the publishing techniques themselves have come so much further these days. Why would we want to retard to the old ways? I'd also say we have a much higher quality of talent these days, but that is not to say that there was no talent in the olden days.

Art isn't linear. People can take many stylistic approaches. If we didn't look back to the past, most new trends would never happen. You bash the 60's yet we still use a lot of the design of characters to this day. We would never have many heroes if it wasn't for Jack Kirby putting in endless days drawing away. Kirby dots originated from that man, a technique that works really well to show off energy. We still use Spider-Man's costume that originated from the 60's.

There is nothing wrong with 60's styles. Revisiting that art isn't a crime. And the art probably fits the tone of the book a lot better than say Deodato or Land, or any of those others.

Look at Team Fortress 2. They use a similar 60's sleek vibe for their game, and people love it.

I can get the knee jerk reaction from people, but I think opening your minds to different styles might be a lot better than trying to make everything feel the same manufactured look. Then everything would look exactly like the Marvel Movies, and then creativity would die after a while.

I really don't have much to say that I haven't already said. Again, I'm glad they are trying new things, but this just doesn't appeal to me. If it appeals to you, more power to ya, but I like the modern look of things.

Also, I don't care for Team Fortress. I really don't get the infatuation.

Okay, Glad we can agree.

Personally? I'm all for this book. Comprised of mostly females and Scott Lang hunting down Doom for what he did to Cassie? SOLD! I just hope a lot of other people buy it too.

All the people here who are immediately writing this off are either young, boring, or both.

I like David Finch, Steve McNiven and the Tony Daniel's of the world too, but variety is the spice of life.

Not everything needs to be super grim and realistic in tone. These are comic books after all.
