Captain George Stacy Speaks Out Against the Menace of 'The Amazing Spider-Man'

Is Spider-Man a hero, a vigilante or a masked-menace?

There's often been a talk of the pros and cons of superheroes. They constantly make personal sacrifices in order save the lives of innocents. Despite this, there are many that frown upon their masked exploits. They wonder why they feel the need to wear masks and conceal their identities unless they have something sinister to hide.

Spider-Man has pretty much had to deal with this sort of criticism throughout his entire career. His biggest opponent has always been J. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle. In the movie, The Amazing Spider-Man, there hasn't been any sign of JJJ showing up but based on this "Daily Bugle TV" exclusive, the Bugle appears to be in the movie but as a television network rather than a newspaper. Also, we've seen some glimpses of how Captain George Stacy feels about Spider-Man's actions but in this clip, he really lays out how he feels.

Those are some harsh words. In the comics, Stacy became a strong supporter of Spider-Man and eventually uncovers his true identity. We'll have to see how the events unfold in the movie to see if Stacy's opinion can be changed and if he will follow the same events as his comic book counterpart.

There's also the fact that the Daily Bugle is taking a different approach. It makes sense in some ways but just doesn't feel right.

If that's the actor for Captain Stacy, I agree.

The Bugle is supposed to be disgustingly biased journalism. This, however, is more balanced than real news networks, and somehow Captain Stacy is shaping up to fill the J.J. Jameson void that leaves. It's interesting, but very contradictory to the comics. In the end, though it just matters if it works in favor of the film itself. We shall see.

Capt. Stacy's character was changed. He's now a more passive J. Jonah. I am curious to know what this means for the development of Spider-Man's relationship with the Stacys. We know that Gwen is going to know SM is Peter... There are a lot of changes.

So is that part of the marketing or movie clips strung together/deleted scene type thing?

I don't like the releasing of all these clips. The second trailer was revealing enough. Now its just X-Men First Class all over again. I don't want to watch this vid.... but I know I will.

The sign of our times that The Daily Bugle is a TV news network now. It still looks like a great viral campaign. I like how it never tries to be obvious it's part of a movie. You know someone is calling that number right now. Though, it's almost encouraging graffiti when asking people if they have seen the symbol anywhere.

It's similar to what they did to the Daily Planet in the New 52. I guess they're just trying to modernize everything.

haha this is fun viral campaigning for this movie...i like when movies do this..i think movies that have huge geek culture like this should all have viral campaiging i rememebr when i clover field and district 9 came out and did the same me and my friends would go to all kinds of websites to figure out what the monster or conspiracy was..pretty fun stuff. and good memories :p

and im really hoping this movie does well.

yes, well that makes sense I suppose but what doesn't make sense is how the Daily Bugle is supporting people having their own opinions on the matter. Why isn't JJ being a vicious tyrant then? HE WOULD NEVER ASK ANYONE FOR THEIR FEEDBACK OR OPINIONS, HE WOULD AGREE WITH CAP. STACY WITH A TREMENDOUS OVERBIAS THAT HE WOULD PRESENT TO THE WORLD AND LATER HE'D THROW A PARTY W/STACY WITH HIM OVER THEIR MUTUAL HATRED OF SPIDER-MAN. If he isn't in the Amazing Spider-Man sequels and the Daily Bugle is.... something isn't right.

I'm gonna go ahead and compare it to Fox News. They're going to give a very biased report and then ask for opinions, knowing full well that they will only get responses from people that fully agree with them. The strength in biased news comes from allowing people to think they're forming their own opinions.

I'm sure Stacy will come around. In The Spectacular Spider-Man he admitted that he found Spider-Man problematic at first but came to realize the good he does.

in the ultimate universe parker is a web designer for the bugle's website since his pictures aren't top notch. I guess its going more ultimate universe in this case.

Also the bugle isn't defending him, they're been factual about what captain Stacy said.

That number they list...I wonder what would happen if I called...but then...I tried the same thing years back when I called 867-5309. Damn you Tommy Tutone! Anyway, a supportive Daily Bugle but non-supportive George Stacy seems a reversal from the comics, but I'm willing to try it out!

I was originally very negative about this reboot, because I thought it came too soon after the last part of the Raimi trilogy. However, the trailers and previews have really convinced me that this movie might actually be worth watching. Even the trailers of most recent superhero flicks from Green Lantern to Avengers have bored me to death, but this one looks like it has potential.I like the fresh and contemporary look of the film. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies were purposefully retro with its aesthetics, which worked just fine in the first two films, but backfired in the laughable third instalment. I think this movie might have what it takes to stand out from the endless stream of superhero movies.

Changing the Daily Bugle into a news network (or a multimedia corporation) makes sense, since the newspaper industry isn't the most important source of news for most people anymore. It seems like they're trying to make this movie more relevant to our time, which is good. I think a part of the reason audiences have responded so strongly to Nolan's Batman movies is because the movies touch issues that are currently very topical, and because the world of the movies - though enhanced with imaginary technology and masked vigilantes and villains - does look like the world we live in. This Spider-Man movie seems to be following that example, and it just might connect with contemporary audiences the way the recent Batman movies have.

I really stopped reading Spider-man for reasons that people can guess at, but I was reading throug one of the BND issues at a grocery store. Apparently, Spider-man was arrested and put injail. They didn't remove his mask.

This just reminds me of that and how stupid it looked. I don't want to hear 'It's magic'. 'It's stupid' is what it was.

Makes us wonder if we would turn Spider-man in if we knew where to find him who knew who he was.

Yeah, probably. :)

Somebody call that number.

Oh, I know that, but that was after Ultimatum (and it still was surreal)
