Captain America Hits Issue #50

What will this "landmark" issue bring?

No Caption Provided

It's hard to believe that we're at issue already.  I remember when Brubaker and Epting started this series.  I'll admit I was a little put off that they re-numbered the series...again.  I was surprised when the Red Skull got shot.  The series has been pretty solid for fifty issues now.  The scary and exciting thing is, you know Brubaker and artist Luke Ross are bound to have something up their sleeves for this issue.

Someone is trying to kill Captain America.  It's Bucky's birthday and he's stuck thinking about his past.  Word is something is going to be revealed about his past.  Along with the main story, there's also a fourteen page story that recaps Cap's life.  As if that wasn't enough, the awesome Fred Hembeck is also doing a story on the "forgotten Captain America."

Issue #50 is on sale May 20, 2009.  Then we travel through time (okay, not really) as the series jumps to issue #600 on June 17 and #601 on July 15.  Here's a preview for issue #50.  Click each image to enlarge.

I can't wait for this Issue! but I was wondering (If anyone can answer) is it just going from #50 - #600? (No #51?) I know there is going to be #601 but I was just a little confused (Just a Little)

Marvel's been doing this lately.  They recently did the same with Thor.  Top Cow also did it with The Darkness.  Basically they (supposedly) tallied up all the previous issues in different series and came up with the number that would've been if they didn't keep canceling and then re-launching the series.  So it appears there will not be an issue #51.

It's because of the Writing and the Art, their both great and make the book it's self great. Cap's my number one favorite book of all time! (This sounds weird but I really like James kind of better then Steve, James is just so cool!)

James>Steve
It took me a long time to say it out loud, but now I'm proud of this opinion.

Yeah the thing I like about the books writing is that with all the flashbacks it really dosen't really feel like Steve's gone, it's like from the past he is remmembered in the present. and James's dark past as the Winter Soldier and with him dealing with those things now makes him a cool character

They also did it with the fantastic four in #500 and will do it with daredevil (hate the renumbering)

well put, and there isn't much more you can do with Steve since he's technically (i know he was in and out a few times, bare with me) been Cap for 70 years.

but like I mentioned in the volume description for Thor, 82 of those 600 issues were made before he even existed as a character so its just a cheap gimmick!"

they are adding up Journey into Mystery 1-125, Thor 126-502, Thor 1-85 and Thor 1-12but Thor made his first appearance in Journey into Mystery #83...so, they're cheating"
Hahaha! "so There Cheating" that's funny, but you do have to remmember that even in Comics there still is business...(and money)

So does anyone know where they've got the number 600 from?? This is the sixth cap series (including Atlas/Timely) and  all in all i thought it added up to around 550.

Agreed! If the series were to become a TV show just after Steve died, I would buy a TiVo just so I could TiVo it. inferiorego said:
