Cable Returns This December In 'Avengers: X-Sanction'

Marvel reveals their plans for Cable's return in an all new four-issue mini series starting later this year.

As you know, in comics, nothing lasts forever -- not even death. When fans witnessed the death of Cable during 'Second Coming' they knew that it wouldn't be the end of the line for time traveling hero. During Marvel's live panel earlier today, writer Jeph Loeb revealed that Cable would see his return in Marvel's upcoming four-issue mini series launching this December titled Avengers: X-Sanction.

Marvel's live blog which set the stage for the big reveal featured Marvel writer Jeph Loeb, artist Ed McGuinness and Marvel VP Tom Brevoort. The discussion focused on a topic that was initially teased at San Diego Comic-Con as the 'Cable Reborn " event.

== TEASER ==

The discussion started off with Jeph Loeb who reveled his affection for Cable, going so far as to cite that Cable was the first ongoing (monthly) book that Loeb worked on when he was first signed on to Marvel in the 90's. According to Loeb, Cable is the 'Captain America of the X-Men.'

"I always saw Cable as very much the Captain America of the X-Men. A soldier from out of time who cared deeply for the people he worked with."

The return of Cable is actually a pretty big deal for X-Men fans, but the fact that Cable's return will appear in an Avengers title is a little bit...well, different. According to the creative team, Avengers: X-Sanction will explain just how Cable managed to survive Second Coming and (if you couldn't tell from the title) would potentially be pitting Cable against some of the Avengers. Marvel VP Tom Brevoort delves into the kinds of people Cable would be up against.

"This story puts Cable in a situation where he's surrounded by and dealing with characters he doesn't normally. It's not just another story with Cable and the X-Men. The idea of Cable as a man out to protect his daughter by any means necessary gives the character an emotional heft and underlines everything he does. It's richly fulfilling."

Next to Cable's return to comics, the second most exciting news to come out of the announcement is the fact that this four-issue mini series will coincide with the events of Schism and Fear Itself, according to Brevoort.

"As we've said, it's not a coincidence that Fear Itself, Schism, and other big stories end at the same time. This is the first brick in the next road. Cable knows he's coming to battle the Avengers, so he comes loaded for bear, with the specific gear he needs." -Tom Brevoort

Evidently, 'Avengers: X-Sanction' will be the first step towards the Marvel events of 2012. Big surprise. What do you think about the news of Cable's return? Are you looking forward to 'Avengers: X-Sanction' by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness? Lastly, Deadpool fans take note: the "Merc with a mouth" will be appearing in the series.

Now bring back the Earth 616 Nightcrawler. AoA Nightcrawler is cool but he's not the same.

Posted by Chane

He looks like the Terminator in these promo shots.

This is going to be stupid. I already can tell.

So called an X-Event. I notice Wolvie down in the teaser. Consequence of Hope choosing Team Cyke? ;)

Damn straight.

Not a fan of McGuiness. Hate Loeb and its way too soon for his return.

The art looks nice, but I still think this is way to soon. What weight does his sacrifice have if his back within weeks, in comic time...

But I would love to see Cable kick some Avengers but:)

I hope this is good. Sadly, for me, Cable has always had the stink of "90s superhero" on him.

Aah! Pouches and big guns strapped to the back!

Surprise, surprise, like Oh Em Gee.

Another killed-off character comes back to life, but this time, out to kill another character who may end up coming back to life in a few years.

Shocking Marvel... shocking.

Next up... Earth-616 Nightcrawler.

P.S.

A Cable Skin for Gears of Wars 3 FTW.

Give Cable a rest already, he wasn't that cool the first time when he was a ripoff of the Terminator movie, and he has never been that cool, and he is not going to be cool now either

Avengers are gonna be really busy. They're gonna face annihilators, Ultron and now probably Cable.

He looks awesome, I wonder if this has anything to do with Scarlet Witch...

not to big on the new look

cable would'nt kill spidey... never

Cable, King of Oversized Firearms

He looks like the child of the Terminator after it was raped by Strong Man.

OMFG. WTF happens to Nightcrawler then? WTF Marvel. Let these mofos die with dignity.

Posted by Gambit1969

No kidding, but I prefer him to the "Shaman" version of Nate Grey. Put on some shoes and a shirt already!

Posted by Iron_Turtle

Well it looks like the T-O Virus has progressed somewhat since we last saw him. I am actually moderately excited to see his return.

Oh goody. The return of the Marvel personification of Liefeldian 90s excess with all his big guns and pouches of course, no doubt to PWN the Avengers in places where he really has no business doing so at all. Yawn.

I love that cover... it reminds me of the Terminator!! I love how all the Avengers there have serious-looking wounds. Point blank shot for Iron Man!!

Looks like the Loebforce applies to Cable as well. How else to show the Avengers down and out, with Red Hulk down too? Seriously, this is just getting insane. He should stay dead a while longer. Tsk tsk Marvel...

How long do you think Logan stays dead based on that cover? :)

He dies? *Goes back for a read*

*facepalm* X-Men characters just can't stay dead, can they?

I like Cable, but I really don't see why he should return, and so soon after his "death". He had a decent run, and a decent end - sacrificing oneself heroically to protect a loved one isn't a bad way to go - but bringing him back to life completely diminishes all the dignity the character has. Honestly, I'm fine with the occasional resurrection of a beloved character, but this is getting ridiculous. If you're really don't have the patience to keep dead characters dead, Marvel, don't kill them off in the first place.

Sounds awful.

I never really saw or predicted a connection between Cable & the Avengers. Then again, I still don't think of Wolvie as an Avenger either. I wonder what outrageously silly way they'll bring him back to life they'll use.

Hopefully Secret Avengers and he gets a bit of TK and TP ala Grifter.

Really worried here. Hope needs time away from Cable, but I'd much rather see a series about Cable getting home, than one where he plays terminator against the Avengers for no good reason.

Depends if that's an Adamantium covered blade... if not, then he's probably already alive and healed... he's just waiting for someone else to get up first so he doesn't look like "the ass who can heal in mere seconds!"

Yes! Cable is back! Love seeing the avengers down and out to him. :D

Posted by Teerack

That last sentence got me excited :)

If the result of this leads into a Cable and Deadpool Vol.2 in 2012 it'll make my comic year :P

Cable and Deadpool was by far my favorite series marvel ever made except maybe Uncanny X-Force is better.

@xerox_kitty: i bet its, he travels time. This cable knew he would die so he came to this exact moment to save hope.

Posted by elayem98

that gun on his back probably ways as much as cable...so stupid, even he wouldnt be able to hold that

Posted by Radread

Yes!

Posted by mcb650

I think some people are taking the cover a little too literally. It's just symbolism. Remember that G.I. Joe cover from the 80's with Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes, and Destro taking their masks off? Exactly.

At the end of Second Coming he actually let the T-O virus overtake him so that would make sense.

@Iron_Turtle:

thank goodness someone else mentioned this, i thought i was just absent minded.

@Babs:

based on that cover Wolverine shouldn't even be dead with those minor injuries, he should still be fighting while staked to the concrete

@xerox_kitty: My hope was actually another version of him jumping through time (similar to apocalypse)

I like cable but I get kind of sick of books that make a single character look super badass by taking out a whole team of heroes. These are supposed to be the best of the best and Cable is going to hand them their asses?...I dunno. Hopefully I am wrong about this and it will be good. I'm guessing that half of the X-men (the blue team) have gone rouge and the Marvel U is going to be against them? That's why Cable is squaring off against the Avengers.

I definitely think this is a pretty sudden return for him though...

Posted by rasx

WOW! The X-Men line of books just seem to be getting better and better!

Posted by Iron_Lad

Cable is one character that I felt should have been left dead, forever. He had the perfect death and he accomplished his mission. I love the character, but I'm upset that he's coming back. Even more upset that he's coming back so soon.

ok so 4/5 of my favorite Marvel Chars are back now cmon #5

I hope Nova Aquitas(or w/e avengers 5 poster called it) is what i think it is.

Information overload, situation lost control. Just stop MARVEL.

Posted by Lt_Cmdr_Kicker

Is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling that we're ramping up for the return of the Phoenix? I mean, why's Cable coming back to protect his "daughter"? & from what? @_@

Posted by Lt_Cmdr_Kicker

Still looks like a good read! Loeb is one of my favorites. :D
