C2E2 Toy Extravaganza

More toys than you can shake a stick at!

One great thing about C2E2 was the amount of announcements, whether it be about a new comic series or a new creative team. In addition to announcements like that, we got to see a slew, that's right, a slew of toys. Many have been announced before, but the prototypes have never been shown to the fans before. Yes, this is pretty DC heavy, but Marvel didn't have as strong of a showing when it came to toys. So let's take a look at a bunch of the upcoming toys for 2010 curtsy of C2E2.

DC Universe Wave 14
Release: Summer 2010
From left to right:  Ultra-Humanite (Must buy all the figures to build him), Kamandi, Tyr, Alan Scott, Zatanna, Obsidian, Gold, and Hourman.

What you can't see in these pictures is that aside from Ultra-Humanite, all these figures were 16 inches tall. I really wish I could get a 16 inch tall Alan Scott or Hourman figure. But even though they were larger, each of them had a great amount of detail and would be well worth the price to pick up. Although, I still have no idea what Tyr is from. I better look him up for more info.

 DC Blammoids Waves 2-4
Release: April 2010-Summer
From Left to Right: The Demon, Wildcat, Martian Manhunter, Superman & Lex Luthor, and Darkseid & Plastic Man

Either you like these little guys, or you hate them. One thing that wasn't advertised when series one came out was that you can take the heads off and switch them around. Kind of like mini-mates or lego figures. Each figure is about 4 inches tall and yes, they all look like they went through the trash compactor. Regardless, they're a lot of fun, but $10 may be a little too costly for these guys.

Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Wave 2
Release Date: Summer 2010
Left to right: Black Manta, Aquaman, Batman, and Two-Face.

Ahh, to be young again. I had this Aquaman and Batman figure growing up, before my mom put them up for sale during the terrible garage sale of 1987, but this summer, I can once again own what I lost: dolls. Each of these little guys is based of their decades-old counterparts. I sincerely hope they're as durable as the old ones were because I used to beat those guys up bad. The first wave sold for $25 a pop at comic book stores, but they're also available at Toys R Us.

DC Stars Collection
Release Date: No clue
Left to right: Tonner (the company that makes the dolls), Hawkgirl, Power Girl & Huntress, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman & Supergirl, and Poison Ivy & Harely Quinn

The Tonner company makes superhero figures that look suspiciously like Barbie dolls. As I stepped closer to view them, I noticed that's exactly what they were. I thought that was really cool, but as I started snapping away with the camera, I noticed the price: roughly $150-$200 a pop. Huh? I thought these were little girl's toys. Like Ken starts beating Barbie, Green Lantern comes in to save the day, and Barbie marries Ken. But I don't think a little girl has $150 to spend on superhero Barbies. To be fair, they did look pretty cool, but I don't think they're worth the price.

 Disney Kubric Figures
Release Date: Summer
Left to Right: B&W Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Jiminey Cricket and Pinocchio, B&W Goofy, Mad Mickey, & Fantasia Mickey, and the Toy Story Gang

These 3 inch figures all looked pretty cool, except a two pack cost $19.99. I feel a little ripped off about this. Out of all the figures they had on display, the black and white figures looked the coolest, and Fantasia Mickey Mouse. The one thing I didn't like about them is that none of the parts were interchangeable. That was always a selling point for me when it came to the mini-mates figures.

Marvel Busts/Statues
Release Date: Majority are released summer 2010
Left to right: Dormammu, Iron Man and Vulture, Phoenix Anime Style,  Red Hulk, Spider-Man, Abomination.

If you've got the cash, usually $50 for busts, $100 and up for a statue, then this is the pinnacle of collectible toys. This is one thing Marvel has always been great at. There were really two that stuck out at C2E2 this year. The first being Dormammu. The paint job was spectacular, and I really loved the transparent fire around his head. It looked spot on from the comics. The second great piece of work was the Vulture statue. He may not be the coolest villain, but he definitely had the best statue at the con.

Marvel Minimates/Ghostbusters Minimates
Release Date: All available by the end of the Spring

The first three images are from Marvel Minimates releases, and although I feel they've hit the majority of characters, those armored mini-mates in the first picture look pretty awesome. I'm still waiting for the Wrecking Crew, or did they do that? I can never remember anymore. The Ghostbusters series, who had their first release last year, is looking great! The last shot is of the whole set up and I'm most excited to finally have a Vigo figure. these go for $15.99 for a 3 pack, and that seems like a fair price to me.

Marvel Select
War Machine & Iron Man
Available Today

I got to see both of these in person, again, today and the actual selling product was dead on from the displays at C2E2. These guys will cost you between $16-$20 depending on where you pick them up. Their articulation may not be as great as Marvel Legends, but these figures are made moreso to stand on their bases rather than be posed and played with.

The Rest:

No Caption Provided
Sometimes, things are just spread out around the con without rhyme or reason, like the DC Universe Lobo figure, which was in a case against a black wall. Or how about a Giant Spock Kubric type thing? And of course there were many Iron Man related toys at the show, including a Polly-Pocketesque playset, pictured right. The last few images are from Wave 13 of DC Universe, available now. They were all heavily disappointing to see.

What did you guys think? What would you like to pick up?
