Broken Trinity: Witchblade Review/Preview

I enjoyed Broken Trinity.  There were some interesting plot lines that will be resulting from the arc but I have to admit I was left wanting a little more.  Maybe I've been getting spoiled with the good story telling in Witchblade lately that I thought Broken Trinity would send me through the roof.  I think it's just the way some things were left hanging.  We did have a couple deaths.  We did get a new character and even saw more on the 13 Artifacts.  I think my disappointment is just that the mini series is over.

With Broken Trinity: Witchblade, we get to see how some of the characters are reacting to the recent events.  There's not a lot of action in the comic but that's what I like about it.  Ron Marz takes the risk occasionally and gives us actual character development.  Sure we all enjoy the big hardcore battle scenes but I do think it's important to see what makes the characters tick.  It allows them to grow rather than become a stale comic book character.

After Broken Trinity, Sara has to deal with seeing Jackie again, the father of her child.  She's a cop and he's the opposite.  Seeing Jackie spend time with his daughter may not be the material that will make this comic fly off the shelf but it's a nice touch.  I also like that there's reference to Jackie dealing with his former men and their botched kidnap attempt.  Continuity is a good thing.  We also see Jackie growing a bit.  He's in a strange situation.  He's cut off from his powers and he has to deal with the fact that he is a father.

And as far as action, Jackie does get some action towards the end of the issue.  As for what kind of action, you can pick up the issue and find out for yourself.

Ron Marz continues doing a great job.  It's like he was meant to write these characters.  He really has given them life.  The art by Nelson Blake II is good.  It's always hard reading a Withcblade issue after being used to Stjepan Sejic's art, but Blake is up for the task.  I give the issue a solid 4 out of 5.  As I mentioned, it's a little light on the action (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but it does have some important character developments which should play out in Witchblade and The Darkness.
