'Beware the Batman' on Break Until 2014

Fighting all of the crime in Gotham must be tiring, so it looks like the iconic hero is taking some R&R.

Well, it looks like Batman doesn't always win... at least not when it comes to television. The last episode of Beware the Batman was abruptly pulled and so began speculation over what that meant. There's no way Cartoon Network could already be cancelling another DC property, right? Thankfully, the voice of Batman, Anthony Ruivivar, took to Twitter to assure fans that the show isn't dead like Batman's parents. Instead, it's on hiatus until January, 2014.

Additionally, Beware the Batman isn't on Cartoon Network's official schedule for this Saturday.

This does come at a really odd time since BEWARE THE BATMAN #1 comes out this Wednesday (we'll likely have a review) and the show had a variety of toys released over at McDonald's. We even spotted a rather awesome action figure based on this animated version of the Dark Knight at a retailer last week, too. We're reaching out to our contact to see if we can find out why the show was yanked and we'll update you if/when a statement becomes available. Batman, however, did provide Comic Vine with his response.

Disappointing news, sure, but on the flip side, at least we know the show wasn't swiftly cancelled.

@black_claw: because they licensed them from Warner Bros. Animation. It makes no sense for Time Warner to put new DC animated content in any house other than their own ie Cartoon Network. FOX just won a bidding war for Gothamand Warner dosen't own a OTA Network (CW dosen't count).

I honestly think it will get cancelled. This is the game they started to play with Young Justice. I feel that most likely going with the lesser rogues was off putting, even to kids. My younger cousin was like "Where is Joker and Riddler?". Those are two of his favorite villains and they aren't there. I love that Ra's is there, but I just feel like the show drags at times. I would kill for a new Justice League in the style of Young Justice.

@tigerex78: Just bring back the team of Timm and Dini and turn them loose again. An updated take on Batman the Animated Series would be amazing, a follow up to Justice League Unlimited, or an animated version of the current Batman Beyond Universe comic would be nice to see.

As long as it's the original DCAU creative team and 2D animation using the same character design style, I'd be happy.

They should use this time to get to work on introducing all the REAL villains we love, not bootlegs.
Except Shiva, Shiva can stay.

Bring back Bruce Timm and the Justice League. And why are people talking smack about Batman: The Brave and The Bold, it was clever complete with in-jokes and introduce characters that weren't featured in Bruce Timm/Paul Dini's heyday. But still DC should use the animation style they use for their animation features and create an interconnecting universe through that way.

The funny thing I was just talking about how networks do this kind of thing just last night. As for the show itself I kinda on the fence. I don't really watch CN anyway.

@alkusanagi: That's a good idea. Only thing I disagree with you on is the character design style. I think it should be more in the style of Young Justice.

If memory serves though, a similar thing was happening with Young Justice before it was confirmed completely cancelled. Just saying...

I had the same thought!

@alkusanagi said:

I just didn't enjoy the show at all. I would gladly cancel 100 Bewares for a new proper DCAU series.

Me too. It seems like every time Bruce Timm/Greg Weisman/Brandon Vietti is not involved with a DC cartoon, it sucks. For example:

The Batman

-Legion of Superheroes

-Batman The Brave and The Bold

-Beware The Batman

The original Teen Titans show is the exception.

And, to be fair, the current Marvel shows suck too.

Hey, Batman the Brave and the Bold wasn't as bad as the other shows you mentioned.

If they ever plan to do another JL show, I hope we get the original JL founders. I want to see the big 7 together in some sort of media together.

I think the Flash would be amazing for a cartoon. I'd use the same animation for Young Justice and have it centered around a young Barry Allen.

Am I the only one who thinks that Amethyst Princess Of Gemworld should get her own full animated series? I mean her animated shorts where pretty popular.

No Caption Provided

You cant tell me this character wouldn't make CN money.

And speaking of shorts.I thought the shorts were supposed to be a testing ground to see whether or not a character would be popular enough to get full on series. What the hell happen to that idea?

I'm starting to think this show won't be getting a second season. Not that I really care, it wasn't bad but I couldn't really get in to it either. Sucks for fans though.

@akintoussaint: I would love to see her get her own series. And SBFF could've easily become the next powerpuff girls if they played their cards right.

Unlikely to happen while a live action show is in production. If that pilot is not picked up, maybe it's possible if Flash gets a movie. James Tucker has said that the only way Wonder Woman will get an animated movie/show is if she has a live action film that does really well. I imagine things are pretty similar for the Flash.

@lcazt1996: Thats what Cartoon network does. they put a show on a break for a while and wait for people to lose interest or forget about the show. then they bring it back but since it has less fans they could cancel it

You know what I don't care anymore I'm gonna wait 5 years until the networks get thier crap together I mean is it too much trouble to have ONE good superhero cartoon, I mean they have the potential, they made Spec Spider, Avengers EMH, Yj, and GLTAS, so why is it so hard why networks, why. Is it too much to ask for a Animal Man or a Runaways cartoon, damn

@jimmie_hudson_: Your opinion is implied when you make a clearly negative statement about other people thinking DC cartoons are better. I wasn't really trying to be argumentative.

I've already seen that. And I'm not saying there shouldn't be any racially diverse characters (I was really happy when John Stewart and Icon showed up in Young Justice), I just want something with the original JL members together.

PLEASE Cancel this show!!!! And then give Batman like a 10-year hiatus from the cartoon world. Give someone who hasn't had an animated series in a while like Superman, or a hero hasn't had an animated series at all like Wonder Woman. Heck you could even dive into Marvel heroes and maybe give Cap or Thor their own series separate from Avengers Assemble (just not Thor and the Agents of ... or Captain America and the Agents of...)
