Best Comic Covers of the Week: 6/7/13

Get a look at our favorite comic covers from this week!

Each week we sift through our buy pile and choose the week's best looking comic book covers. This week was pretty tough and there were a heck of a lot of covers we loved. Check out our favorites below. As always, if there is a cover that we miss that happens to be your favorite, feel free to post it below!

Artist Dave Sim illustrates the cover to THE COLONIZED #3, a very cool cover with a sort of Silver Age comics sort of feel. The image is an action shot featuring very subtle colors and thin inks, but beautiful nonetheless.

DAREDEVIL: DARK KNIGHTS # 1's cover by artist Lee Weeks is a bit abstract, but it's really pretty. The image depicts Daredevil hovering on the horizon of a city scape, in the midst of the falling snow. It's

Artist Adam Hughes' cover to FAIREST #16 is absolutely breathtaking. Not only are the pencils for the image stunning, but the artist also adds gorgeous colors to highlight the image.

Artist Jae Lee is very good at capturing a brooding, dark character and his cover for BLACK BAT #2 is a perfect example of exactly that. The picture is dark, and Black Bat looks fantastic.

We don't only love comic books, we love video games too. That's one reason why we absolutely loved artist Mark Brooks' 'Street Fighter' inspired cover to FEARLESS DEFENDERS #5 is absolutely perfect and made us reminisce about one of our favorite games just a teeny bit.

The DAREDEVIL: END OF DAYS #8 cover by Alex Maleev is also one of our favorites from this week's new comic releases. The image is simple and really focuses on Daredevil's physical strength. The result is a very cool image.

Finally we have Francesco Francavilla's cover to THE LONE RANGER #15, and it is absolutely breathtaking. Francavilla is a fantastic artist and he really utilizes perspective to illustrate a stunning cover to this comic.

Those are some of our favorite comic covers, what are some of yours? Let us know in the comments section what your favorite covers were from this week and which of our picks made your list.

That Black Bat cover is the only piece of Jae Lee art I've ever seen that I didn't hate.

I see he still works in black lines, though.

their is a strong bias to daredevil comics and this happens regularly there are always tons of better covers. starting to get on my nerves.

That Lone Ranger cover by Francavilla is fantastic. Poster, please!

Wasn't there an article about Dynamite publishing a book featuring the art of Sean Phillips this week? How about another book with Francavilla's art and covers?

Aside from the Man of Steel Banner and the stupid DC writing on the cover, This is a dope cover. Jock is awesome!

@onemoreposter: I'm surprised DC hasn't just given him a gold/silver age series yet, I bet a monthly or quarterly anthology by him with untold tales styled gold/silver age stories would be very popular, it would definitely appeal to the older demographic that DC has somewhat alienated and probably to the younger demographic.

That would be fantastic! Did you read New Frontier?

Absolutely fantastic comic mini series set in the 60 (the onset of the silver age in real life). It was fun but serious and dramatic and dealt with several very real political issues from that era. There is literally limitless potential for an ongoing series set in that universe.

Edited by pikahyper

@onemoreposter: yep, read it when it was first published, I'm not sure about an ongoing in the New Frontier universe, New Frontier was a little more serious then usual, if he had something that was a little more old fashioned and layered so it appealed to younger readers but older readers would get more from it it would appeal to a larger base.

Swamp Thing, Black Bat, and The Phantom Stranger are my picks.

edit: without those god-awful banners. stop ruining the covers with your stupid advertisements, DC. you should be ashamed.

Great picks this week!

@covertavenger: hell yea - love the latest cover of Phantom Stranger

How about Green Lantern #21? I love that cover!

Side note: I would add a pic of it but you can't upload or attach pics when posting a message from your phone on comicvine. Sucks as that's pretty much the device I use to browse on here. Can someone get on that?

Loved this cover

Ha! So funny you think Punisher would die by Deadpool but its the exact opposite!

I just absolutely love that Defenders cover...

@teamunitednerds: Jae Lee's art is horrific to look upon. I seriously despise everything he draws. I stopped reading the Dark Tower comics because of his terrible crap. I'm really sad he's drawing the Batman/Superman comic.

Loved Fearless Defenders and DareDevil.

When I first started noticing Jae Lee's work, I really didn't like it but he's really started to grow on me. I wasn't going to pick up Batman and Superman because of it but now I think I'm going to.

And I think the Bill Sienkiewicz variant cover to End of Days is much better than Alex Maleev's (even though I think Alex is an awesome artist). I'm waiting on next week when I get paid so I can get it off eBay because my LCS didn't have it.

HeroBear and the Kid backcover

@pikahyper:

You know -- I think Dejah's covers are always stunning but more and more I can't help but wince? I mean, I am sure those metal nipple pasties can't be the most comfortable, lol (especially when heated by that harsh sun) but it's more that her breasts look sunburnt. I know her skin colour is a reddish hue but seriously, I just...lots of oww factor there. They look like shiny blisters.

--------------------------------

Loving the Fairest cover -- the use of purples is just gorgeous and Sienkiewicz can do no wrong when painting DD or Elektra so that is a beautiful Daredevil cover plus Fearless Defenders is just pure goodness. Clever and awesome.

Edited by pikahyper

@lykopis: metal pasties actually aren't that bad, most are made with soft material on the insides and some are available that clip on to nipple piercings so there is some space between metal and skin so everything can breath and have no chaffing.

Ah, yes, the soft sponge that's as thin as double sided tape -- true!. Nipple piercings, I can see working better. Less chance of slippage.

Posted by pikahyper

@lykopis: there's a few types of material used, I prefer felt or velvet. I've also seen some that use this weird rubber that forms to the nipple and acts as an adhesive but doesn't leave a sticky residue, it is usually used with plastic pasties though as it is only for a single use and it doesn't adhere very well if the area gets moist or has oil or glitter where it is used.

The nipple piercing ones are nice, there are two main types for metal and one for plastic, the metal ones come as hooks or clasps and the plastic just clicks on similar to an old fashion clothespin.

Anyways back to the cover if you look at the risque cover there are no pasties for ultimate comfort ;)

@pikahyper:

I am duly impressed -- and to be fair, I prefer the real Dejah, sans the pasties. :)

And without proper segue, I am getting my hands on that Golden Age Superman Omnibus. I hope it's not too late to order it.

Posted by pikahyper

@lykopis: The omnibus is still available, if you are going through a comic shop they can reorder it with FEB130227, if you are looking online some places have it for up to half off which is a pretty good deal with the steep regular $75 price tag.
