Best Comic Covers of the Week: 5/10/13

Get a look at some of our favorite comic covers from this week.

Each week we sift through the new releases and choose our favorite comic covers of the week. Of course, there are plenty of great looking covers that don't make our list, which is why you should always let us know if we missed one of your favorites in the comments below. Now, without further ado, here are our favorite covers!

Artist Paolo Rivera's cover to AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #20 tops our list this week thanks to the fact that it is just so creative. Rivera captures certain characteristics of each of the Avengers brilliantly while still managing to give us a peek at the Chameleon.

Artist Richard Corben delivers a delightfully creepy cover to Dark Horse CREEPY #12, an anthology of various creepy short stories by some of the industry's best creators.

It's hard to go a week without seeing Francesco Francavilla make our list, and he does so once again with his cover to DARK SHADOWS #16 for Dynamite Entertainment. The cover is eerie and the story's central character shrouded in darkness and a deep red hue -- definitely one of our favorites for this week.

The cover to FEARLESS DEFENDERS #4 is just a lot of fun. In fact it is so pretty it makes us want to cut it to pieces, and for good reason. For anyone who has ever played with cut-out paper dolls or can remember the days when they were popular, this cover by artist Mark Brooks.

It's a simple image, but there's something about Rich Ellis' cover to MEMORIAL: IMAGINARY FIENDS #3 that we found to be really pretty. The image is simple, dark yet compelling all at once.

Artist Zachary Baldus' cover to PROPHET #35 is both muddled and detailed all at once. The image is pretty, and the artist can thank the lovely colors and lighting for that.

The Rocketeer is in quite the sticky situation in this month's THE ROCKETEER: HOLLYWOOD HORROR #4, and Walter Simonson's cover to the issue is just absolutely brilliant.

Finally we have the cover to STAR WARS #5 by artist Rodolfo Migliari. The image of Han and Chewie are so lifelike that it feels as if the two characters could jump off the pages. The picture is vibrant and very pretty, so it's no wonder why it made our list.

I was bummed at first when I heard Alex Ross wasn't doing the cover for this month's Star Wars, but then I saw it and Rodolfo Migliari did an awesome job.

Nice picks, I thought Superboy issue 20 would also make an appearance, I really enjoyed the cover.

Superboy #20

I thought Suicide Squad 20 was a great cover this week.

@alforeigner: That was a great one.

Why is this in bold? The button is off...

Besides all the above, these are my favorites this week; especially Bikini Cowboy, Deadpool, and Suicide Squad:

That is a pretty sweet cover but these were nice picks.

i think those were some of the worst picks yet o.o did they not want to pick the most obvious ones?

I thought that B&R definitely would have featured on the list

All of the Fearless Defenders are great and very smart. Especially the nest issue.

Dark Shadows #16 for me. Absolutely LOVE that cover O_O

SHARK!

There's a problem with the fearless defenders cover. If you were to cut out the outfit on the left the cape would cover up her arms.

@queso6p4: oh snaps, nah I should've phrased it differently lol by "yall" I meant everybody in the comments section lol I love Mark Brooks & the cover to Star Wars is pretty awesome. Don't really read any of the other titles so I'm biased on the rest :)

Fair enough. :-)

That is a pretty sweet cover.

SHARK!

This is also pretty sweet. :-)

I could not disagree more. Knowing they had an excuse to do an awesome cover with the Batman Beyond costume but instead they went with this generic clay fight makes it the worst cover of the week in my opinion. Same goes for the people above who picked the other Batman #20 cover. Both are major fails for lack of Batman Beyond costume.

am i the only one bothered by the overall flaw of the defenders cover, the cape completely blocks out her body, it would be impossible to use unless you carefully carved out the cape..

Awesome to see Creepy #12 on here. The corpse's face is scary sure but the woman's face is horrifying.

I love the old school vibe of Illustrated Creepy, Prophet and Dark Shadows

That Star Wars cover is awful. Han and Chewie look so stiff and rigid.

Superboy #20

@jldoom: Most DC covers have events on them that never occur at least this was a plot point. I remember a JL cover last year that had Aquaman standing with his foot of Green Lantern's chest and then in the issue get into a verbal argument for half a page. A verbal argument which I guess the cover is implying Aquaman won.

Thought this was a grade A cover as well (couldn't find an image with the Valiant logo or series title)
