Best Comic Covers of the Week: 2/22/13

Check out our favorite comic book covers for this week!

Each week we look at the new comic releases and choose our favorite comic covers for that week. This week there were plenty of beautiful comic covers, but often there will be a few that we will miss. If there is a cover that you like, feel free to post it in the thread below!

First up is the cover to SAGA #10 by artist Fiona Staples. It's an absolutely stunning image with fantastic perspective. The colors are incredibly vibrant and compelling, one of our favorite this week.

Next up is Dave Johnson's cover B.P.R.D.: 1948 #5. The cover is simple but very eerie, particularly the reflection of the the character in the green pool below. The minimal colors gives the image a lot of emphasis as well.

The cover to BALTIMORE: THE WIDOW AND THE TANK one-shot is really lovely. It is dark, grim, and captures the mood and tone of the issue beautifully. Artist Ben Stenbeck uses minimal colors and it is perfect for the issue.

The cover to BATWOMAN #17 is absolutely breathtaking. J.H. Williams III delivers a beautifully stylized cover featuring Kate emerging through the fire. It's a powerful image of the character and really beautifully done.

We loved the cover to CAPTAIN MARVEL #10 by Joe Quinones. Not only is this cover really beautiful, but it also very simply captures a somber moment. It's a great portrayal of Carol in a sad, pensive state.

Artist Gabriel Rodriguez captures creepy in a big way on the latest cover to LOCKE & KEY #3. Again, not a lot of color but plenty of depth make this an eye-catching cover.

Last but not least is the cover to THE SHADOW YEAR ONE #1 by artist Alex Ross. It's a stunning silhouette of the character highlighted by the figure of a beautiful woman.

BatWoman ALWAYS has beautiful covers.

That Batwoman cover is brilliant.

I love that cover for The Shadow.

So good.

I also liked this week's Dark Avengers cover.

@TheElusiveNewReader: @guttridgeb: I absolutely agree with the both of you. Batwoman has had consistently great covers and I hope they can continue with them.

And crappy as the cover they used is, I think the originally solicited Action Comics #17 cover deserves a shout out.

Seriously!? These weren't even mentioned?

THIS IMAGE IS SO BIG BECAUSE IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

These were some of my favorites this week. :(

@ColonelRunAway: Grant Morrison is getting an extra issue so you'll see that cover on #18.

Batwoman #17 is the best issue ever! "World's Finest" comes to its @$$ kicking conclusion. From Batwoman herself, to Wonder Woman, to Bette, to the jaw dropping last page, this issue is gold!

I agree with these, most strongly. I do think that the Justice League # 17 cover is sharp though.

That Batwoman cover is stunning! And Alex Ross is always amazing

Edited by SpitfireINK

My vote goes to both SAGA and THOR!

Sure Baltimore, Batwoman, Hellblazer, and Red Hood & the Outlaws gets an honorable mention - are all visually pleasing covers.

A COVER SHOULD MAKE YOU TAKE ... PAUSE ... AND HAVE A NARRATIVE THAT MAKES YOU ... IMAGINE ... THE POSSIBILITIES OF THE STORY WITHIN ! -- Cover can also be just Aesthetically pleasing so you TAKE NOTICE and want to MAKE A CLOSER INSPECTION or WANT TO HAVE IN PLAIN VIEW to ADMIRE.

But with most of the honorable mentions and ... all the other - so what covers?!? ... they are simply rehashed compositions we've seen before. And quite frankly some others mentioned are just plain bad. Sorry to say the Shadow cover is a pale reflection of what Alex Ross is truly capable of and very disappointing.

Seriously the fan pics are way better!

I adore that Captain Marvel cover, it's beautiful. My other picks would be Thor, and Green Lantern: New Guardians.

Ummm where is Hellblazer?

J.H. Williams III continues to provide Batwoman with what mite the the best art work in comics today.

That captain marvel cover is lame imo..

Great covers! I think Batwoman's is the best one though.

Yeah, I don't understand how the New Guardians cover wasn't even mentioned.
