Each week we sift through the new releases to choose some of our favorite comic book covers, and we're happy to say that this week we were definitely not disappointed. From J.G. Jones' gorgeous cover to BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN to Mike Mignola's return to HELLBOY, this week's covers were breathtaking. As always, we don't always choose every great looking cover, so if there's one you loved that didn't make our list, be sure to post it in the thread below.
First up is the stunning cover to this month's ACTION COMICS. We chose the variant to spotlight this time around since it was just so unique and really striking -- that and because we think it really showcases artist Fiona Staples' talents as an illustrator.== TEASER ==
The Comedian is a rather controversial figure, but no matter what you might think of the character, you have to agree that the cover to this month's BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN #4 cover by artist J.G. Jones might be one of the most beautiful of this week. Jones has a very distinct style that captures the realism of the scene in a way that few artist can. It feels so grounded that the picture looks more like a photograph than an illustration, which is one of the reasons why we love it so much.
This month's cover to DIAL H #7 by Brian Bolland is very stylized and incredibly detailed. We loved the crazy background and the fact that it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing cover we've ever seen, but that's why we were sort of drawn to the image.
And while we sometimes get some beautiful, very detailed covers, there are some times when simplicity wins. In the case of GREAT PACIFIC #1's second printing cover, the simplicity of the cover was just far too striking not to take notice of.
Speaking of simplicity, the cover to Mike Mignola's HELLBOY IN HELL #1 of Hellboy waltzing into the bowls of hell is definitely one image that we personally found to be one of the most beautiful of the week.
