Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 8/28/14

What covers were the coolest this week?

It's the end of the week! You know what that means? It's time to take a look at some of the coolest covers of the week, picked out by the staff of Comic Vine. In addition, we ask our followers on Twitter what covers they love using #CVCovers. Let's get right down to business and discuss this week's awesomeness.

THUNDERBOLTS #30 by David Yardin

First up is this delightful cover for THUNDERBOLTS #30 by David Yardin. How doesn't love a little 50s dating with their violent standoff? The set-up for this cover is a ton of fun and just as importantly, it looks great.

STAR-SPANGLED WAR STORIES: G.I.ZOMBIE #2 by Darwyn Cooke

Next up is STAR-SPANGLED WAR STORIES: G.I.ZOMBIE #2 by Darwyn Cooke. There is a ton of action packed into this cover. Cooke takes a small step out of his style to give us something a bit grittier and it looks fantastic.

ALL NEW INVADERS #5 by Michael Komarck

Here's ALL NEW INVADERS #5 by Michael Komarck. Deathlok looks freaking awesome here. Komarck delivers a really awesome cover with some great color work.

ALL NEW X-MEN #31 by Mike Del Mundo

Next on our rad covers list is ALL NEW X-MEN #31 by Mike Del Mundo. Anyone know when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres? Anyway, Del Mundo creates a cool cover here, which is a maze, but the maze makes out the words "Agents of "S.H.I.E.L.D." That's pretty rad.

HARLEY QUINN #10 by Amanda Conner & Paul Mounts

Here's HARLEY QUINN #10 by Amanda Conner & Paul Mounts. This cover is pretty bad a** (sorry, I don't like to cuss at all here) Harley looks so awesome and Mounts' colors are a homerun.

ALL STAR WESTERN #34 by Darwyn Cooke

Finally, we wrap things up with ALL STAR WESTERN #34 by Darwyn Cooke. It's sad to see Jonah Hex ride off into the sunset, but at least he does it style here. Yep, Cooke makes our list twice in one week.

Twitter Pick of the Week: SILVER SURFER #5 by Mike Allred and Laura Allred

On Twitter, you folks picked SILVER SURFER #5 by Mike Allred and Laura Allred. The Allreds are the best. This cover is a blast, and I love seeing all these Marvel characters in Mike Allred's style.

There you have it! Let us know in the comment section below what covers you loved! Also, check us out on Twitter and let us know on Wednesdays and Thursdays what covers you loved using #CVCovers. See you folks next week!

...Why are Hulk's legs growing out of his arms in that Silver Surfer cover?

I don't like any of these tbh.

invaders was great, loved harley too. and honestly i liked the regular iceman cover for all new xmen. I feel like anytime del mundo draws something, you guys immediatly say its the best. i really dont get it, but what ever floats your boat.

Wow! there's not Batman covers this week. It's been awhile since a Bat related cover been absent. (I really dont want to count Harley but i guess you can).

When you think about it Harley Quinn is consistent in top 10 comics sales each month even it defeat Marvel's the avengers comics, it is actually outstanding

I thought this one was amazing!

What no COWL or Outcast?? Just kidding these are good too.

Heads up to the article author; You kept referring to All-New X-Men #31 as #10 by mistake.

probably 85% why i picked it up! the cover and covers killed! the issue read like crap though. too simple, shitty script. but good concept.

Love the thunderbolts cover

Surprised Low #2 wasn't on here

Posted by Zbrown1

@rulerofthisuniverse:

if you look just under his head and back you'll see the outline of the rest of his legs. He's flying backwards almost in the beginning of a the way a backflip would start.

Posted by RulerOfThisUniverse

@zbrown1: His back is still bending way more than humanly possible.

I like "ALL NEW X-MEN #10 by Mike Del Mundo".

The Silver Surfer anatomy debate can be settled very easily. The Hulk's deformation is because he was hit not just by a board, but also by The Power Cosmic.

typo! thanks for pointing that out

I really need to pick up Thunderbolts and All New X-Men one of these days. Can't beleive both series are on their 30th issue and havnt been cancelled and reset to issue 1.

Heh, that made me curious, so I checked next month's Marvel solicits and Thunderbolts, All New X-Men, Deadpool, and Avengers are the only main Marvel books that are currently older than 30 issues. Superior Spider-Man is also still technically around, but considering it got cancelled months ago and is really only being continued for a couple issues as part of a gimmick event, I don't think it really counts.

Now I'm wondering how long Marvel will let these four go on before they get their own unnecessary relaunches...

MEh most of these don't stand out except Thunderbolts, and Shield Variant.

@humanrocket: That's a great standout cover.

ALso was expecting SAGA to be here. And this

@transformers1024: Thunderbolts has been cancelled. Issue 32 in October is the last.
