Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 7/26/13

What were the best comic book covers for the week?

We're back guys! Last week, Team Comic Vine was out and about at San Diego Comic Con, and we didn't have time to put a best covers together. Please forgive us. However, it's a new week, and we're all back safe and sound, so here's a look at the coolest covers from this past week!

First up this week, we have BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #22 by Alex Maleev. This is an excellent cover. I love how Jim Gordon is in the Bat-target, and I love how Maleev plays with the negative space. The angles of Jim and the target give the cover an unsettling feeling.

This one is probably my personal favorite of the week. It's FLASH #22 by Francis Manapul! What I love about this cover is the simplicity in color: black, red, and yellow. It's also another cover that uses negative space extremely well.

Next up, we have a fan favorite book, HAWKEYE ANNUAL #1 by artist Javier Pulido. This trippy cover features Kate Bishop in front of a sea of Madame Masque masks. Once again, the coloring is pretty simple, and the cover has this cool 60s look to it.

Ahh! Bane is on the cover of TALON #10! Hide your Batmen, especially their weak backs! This stunning cover comes from Miguel A Sepulveda, and while a few of these covers were a bit more simplistic, what drew us to this one was all the cool detail on the cover, right down to the cracks on the owl mask and the lines on the stitching on Bane's mask.

Here we have ULTIMATE COMICS X-MEN #29 drawn by Gabriel Hardman. It's a pretty stunning and shocking cover as we see the decomposed bodies of Storm and Jean Grey inside of a shallow grave. It says a lot about the struggles these characters have had to go through the past few months as well.

Finally, we close this week with the cover to WHAT IF? AVX #3. Here we see the stunning artwork of Jorge Molina. It's an extremely powerful piece as Hope, infused with the Phoenix Force, floats above the heroes of Earth, bowing to her. It's a brilliant use of color, shadow, and light.
