Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 7/26/13

What were the best comic book covers for the week?

We're back guys! Last week, Team Comic Vine was out and about at San Diego Comic Con, and we didn't have time to put a best covers together. Please forgive us. However, it's a new week, and we're all back safe and sound, so here's a look at the coolest covers from this past week!

First up this week, we have BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #22 by Alex Maleev. This is an excellent cover. I love how Jim Gordon is in the Bat-target, and I love how Maleev plays with the negative space. The angles of Jim and the target give the cover an unsettling feeling.

This one is probably my personal favorite of the week. It's FLASH #22 by Francis Manapul! What I love about this cover is the simplicity in color: black, red, and yellow. It's also another cover that uses negative space extremely well.

Next up, we have a fan favorite book, HAWKEYE ANNUAL #1 by artist Javier Pulido. This trippy cover features Kate Bishop in front of a sea of Madame Masque masks. Once again, the coloring is pretty simple, and the cover has this cool 60s look to it.

Ahh! Bane is on the cover of TALON #10! Hide your Batmen, especially their weak backs! This stunning cover comes from Miguel A Sepulveda, and while a few of these covers were a bit more simplistic, what drew us to this one was all the cool detail on the cover, right down to the cracks on the owl mask and the lines on the stitching on Bane's mask.

Here we have ULTIMATE COMICS X-MEN #29 drawn by Gabriel Hardman. It's a pretty stunning and shocking cover as we see the decomposed bodies of Storm and Jean Grey inside of a shallow grave. It says a lot about the struggles these characters have had to go through the past few months as well.

Finally, we close this week with the cover to WHAT IF? AVX #3. Here we see the stunning artwork of Jorge Molina. It's an extremely powerful piece as Hope, infused with the Phoenix Force, floats above the heroes of Earth, bowing to her. It's a brilliant use of color, shadow, and light.

Well guys, that's it for another Best Comic Book Covers of the Week! Make sure to leave a comment below of all your favorite covers from this week as well!

The Flash is pretty sick but that's to be expected

Bane looks super badass on that Talon #10 cover. Wow.

My thoughts exactly.

Aquaman cover was pretty good too. I liked it.

I like the Talon and Dark Knight ones. Batman Superman was cool too. I should have gotten the Dark Knight one instead of the Adventures of Superman I missed from before. I love Alex Maleev.

Nice choices, though I can't tell if you know what negative space actually means or if you're just using it casually. I WILL say, especially the Flash cover, uses simplicity fantastically as you pointed out. ALSO:

Great choices. But you should have added also the cover for Batman/Superman #2.

Posted by AllStarSuperman

Yeah you should have put batman/superman 2

I love Bane, but I would like it if they would change his mask to something along the lines of the movie version. The luchador thing was already stupid looking in the 90s.

I am not calling for the exact TDKR mask, but there has to be a better way to design this thing than how it currently is.

I was ready to voice my outrage had I not found the cover to the Flash in this week's collection.

Yea Talon takes it.

Hawkeye Annual really?

I bought Dark Knight #22 literally for that cover. Also for Alex Maleev's art on interiors.

I hate to admit it, but my two favorites were DC titles. Flash and Bane are awesome.

The one that is missing though is Hunger #1 (Either one).

@vpuik: yeah baby! In your marvel @#$& sucking face!

I really like the Talon cover. Bane's eyes look very creepy

If only the art of Talon #10 looked that good on the inside of the book. Sadly, not even close.

Posted by JamDamage

I told you Flash would make it, but that Bloodshot is AWSOME.

Batman/Superman #2s cover is WAY better than What if AvX and the Hawkeye covers

Dat Flash and AVX

@evilpenguin543: Yep I gotta go with the Bloodshot cover too. When I saw it I thought it was definitely going to be included this week.

The Talon cover rocks! Owls beware...

All the covers including Bloodshot are brilliant. The Lazarus one is nice, too.

My favorite would be The Flash. This goes onto my personal list of "where do I get this as giant-sized poster?"

Posted by Shallbecomeabattoo

@elayem98: Yeah, kinda! Thats way better than the current cloth one! Thanks!

I's like to know how come this didn't make the cut. Every Batman/Superman cover has been absolutely beautiful.

Nice choices, though I can't tell if you know what negative space actually means or if you're just using it casually. I WILL say, especially the Flash cover, uses simplicity fantastically as you pointed out. ALSO:

Yeah its one of my worse drawings, i just had an idea for a redesign and wanted to put pen to paper. Thanks for the comment though, check out my other stuff on deviantart if you want.

@elayem98: I went to your deviant art page and I really liked your two-face picture. The one where he is looking to his right (our left) and seems young looking. Very good. I like the color job on it.i liked your original but whatever program you used to color it was phenomenal.i have posted some of my own pictures on my page, most of them are crap but there are some good ones in there too.
