Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 5/9/14

Check out what the staff loved in covers for the week of May 9th!

Welcome back to another edition of Best Comic Book Covers of the Week where we take a look at some of the most awesome looking comic covers. We also ask our followers on Twitter what they think as well.

DETECTIVE COMICS #31 by Francis Manapul

First up is DETECTIVE COMICS #31 by Francis Manapul. This is a very different but very cool looking cover and the background is stunning. We love the little splatters at the bottom of the page as well.

MILES MORALES: THE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 by David Marquez & Justin Ponsor

Next up is MILES MORALES: THE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 by David Marquez & Justin Ponsor. Ponsor always does stunning work with colors and shading, and his work looks fantastic with the art of David Marquez which is always top notch.

MOON KNIGHT #3 by Ryan Stegman and Jason Keith

Here is the variant to MOON KNIGHT #3 by Ryan Stegman and Jason Keith. I don't think we've ever seen Stegman do his version of Moon Knight before, but I could be wrong. His vision of the character is incredible. We love how his cape makes the shape of the crescent moon as well.

THE WOODS #1 by Matthew Woodson

Finally, here's THE WOODS #1 by Matthew Woodson. This cover feels so big and open, with these very small characters traversing through it. That's what really makes this a stand out and eye catching cover.

Let's see what you guys picked as your favorite cover on Twitter!

ORIGINAL SIN #1 by Julian Totino Tedesco

Your Twitter pick was ORIGINAL SIN #1 by Julian Totino Tedesco. Without a doubt, this is a haunting cover as heroes of the Marvel universe stand over the dead body of Uatu. It truly does look fantastic. However, I see your pick of Julian Totino Tedesco and raise you this ridiculous and hilarious Chip Zdarsky variant.

Manapul and Bucelleto are hidden gems in the New 52. Flash was excellent. DC is looking real good.

That Moon Knight variant is great.

Very Star Wars Poster-y.

Also, I don't read the comic, but The Vampire Diaries cover this week was pretty cool.

I'm getting really tired of the Deadpool variants for every event at Marvel

This and Moon Knight are my faves of the week

The Moon Knight and Detective Comics covers are the best for me.

That Moon Knight variant looks brilliant! And Manapul's cover for Detective Comics #31 is pretty awesome too.

The Original Sin covers have been icy too.

The Original Sin ones are great.

To me, this stood out the most but could have done with a bit more art and less text

Posted by RulerOfThisUniverse

The only ones I like out of those are Detective Comics and Original Sin (the normal one). The rest look kinda average.

That Moon Knight cover makes me happy.

and truthfully I fully expect 95% of the 'Tec covers to be on this list every month because they've just been amazing so far.

That Moon Knight variant is god awful.

I know I'm in the minority, and I'm not usually such a cynic, but c'mon.

Where's his neck? His legs are way too long and large to be proportionate with the rest of his body. What's with the platypus feet!?

this ones pretty cool

This cover is fantastic, I agree.

I don't know about that Original Sin cover. Seeing the Watcher's bare legs with funky black boots capping them off just feels wrong. Disrespectful-ish. I keep wanting to pull his gown down.
