Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 4/4/14

Find out what covers made us flip our wig this week!

Welcome back to another edition of Best Comic Book Covers of the Week where the staff of Comic Vine picks out their favorite covers for the week, and we also find out what our Twitter followers have to say as well. Let's get right down to business and find out what cool covers made our list this week.

THE SHADOW: YEAR ONE #8 by Chris Samnee

First up, this week is THE SHADOW: YEAR ONE #8 by Chris Samnee. This cover is full of action and sums up the book, as a whole, pretty well. What really stands out here is how The Shadow's cape, complete with bullet holes, makes up the title of the book.

RED SONJA #8 by Jenny Frison

Next is RED SONJA #8 by Jenny Frison. We love the way Red Sonja's hair floats here, giving the reader the effect of sitting on top of the water. Frison also uses the negative space of the cover extremely well.

MAGNETO #2 by Chris Samnee & Matthew Wilson

Once again, it's Chris Samnee, with Matthew Wilson, but this time for MAGNETO #2. While the art here is pretty amazing, the color work makes this piece a huge stand-out. It's an awesome issue that gets a very deserving awesome cover.

DETECTIVE COMICS #30 by Francis Manapul

Next up is DETECTIVE COMICS #30 by Francis Manapul. It's hard not to stare at this piece, and not just because it has a yellow background. Manapul uses a great layering technique to make this cover pop.

PRETTY DEADLY #5 by Emma Rios & Jordie Bellaire

Lastly, here's PRETTY DEADLY #5 by Emma Rios & Jordie Bellaire. Rios has done some dynamite covers for PRETTY DEADLY. Her layouts for the covers are always very engaging for the reader, and as always, Bellaire does wonders with her color work.

We asked our followers on Twitter what covers they loved and while a few of the responses were already on our list, we did get a few responses for this cover.

MOON KNIGHT #2 by Declan Shalvey & Jordie Bellaire

Here's MOON KNIGHT #2 by Declan Shalvey & Jordie Bellaire. You guys have a great eye when it comes to stand-out covers. After reading the issue, every aspect of this cover makes perfect sense. It's a wonderful piece.

That's it for another weekly adventure with the best comic book covers of the week, we'll see you guys next week with a whole new batch of covers. Do you have a cover you simply love that we missed? Let us know in the comment section below! Also, make sure to check us out on Twitter to get your Twit-picks in for next week using #CVCovers.

Excellent choices this week. Detective Comics was my personal favorite. All of the Jenny Frison Red Sonja covers and all of the Emma Rios Pretty Deadly covers have been amazing.

The only ones here I agree with are Red Sonja and Detective Comics. The others aren't that great IMO.

Double dose of Samnee, nice.

That Detective cover is hands down my favorite. I thought the moon knight cover was cool, but it was not until after reading the book that I really understood what they where going for and pushed it to one of my favs.

I haven't seen a cover that looked so good in a long time. Phil Noto is out of control.....

All excellent choices! Detective Comics is my favorite for the week. So hard to choose after that. The Shadow Year One and Pretty Deadly covers are awesome. And you have to like the Red Sonja cover also. Like I said, all excellent choices.

Love that Moon Knight cover to death (and that costume is so slick. Way to update him, Marvel. He looks nothing short of marvelous)

Red Sonja cover is beautiful. Also agree that Quantum and Woody #9 should have been included.

I could easily see Samnee doing INTERIORS as well for Shadow and Magneto. Well deserved double-pick this week for him :D
