It's the end of the week. It's Friday! Time to throw all your cares away! As you may know, every week, the Comic Vine staff rents out a theme park and discusses where's the best place to get a slice of pizza. After that, we talk about which comic book covers we liked the most and put them into this nice little package for you. Let's get on with the show and find out what was cooler than cool this week in comic book covers.
THE BLACK BAT #7 by Jae Lee
First up on our list this week is the cover for THE BLACK BAT #7 by Jae Lee. What we love about this cover is the use of negative space, so the reader can really focus on the Black Bat kicking that member of the S.W.A.T. team right in the face. We like the limited use of color on this cover, so you really focus on the shading and the inking as well.
BATWING #26 by Darwyn Cooke
The next stop on our train of awesome covers comes to us from Darwyn Cooke with his cover to BATWING #26. Cooke's covers are always a treat. His art style has a pop-art style to it from early to mid-20th century which really makes this stand out. I really like what he does with color here, actually. He stays flat but uses line to create the illusion of depth on Batwing.
X-MEN LEGACY #21 by Mike Del Mundo
Break out the weird! It's time for a Mike Del Mundo cover. This week, his work is featured on none other than X-MEN LEGACY #21. The covers to X-MEN LEGACY are always extremely interesting and a bit out there. Legion standing on an eyeball where the blood vessels are becoming hands, reaching for him, is another example of a great Del Mundo cover that you could spend quite a bit of time just staring at.
SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #23 by Humberto Ramos
The next wicked-cool cover on our list this week comes to us from SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #23 by artist Humberto Ramos. What's great about this cover is really the set-up. We see Flash in the background, reaching forward for what has become his symbiote (Venom), and Venom seemingly moving away from him to the point where he's outside of the borders of the page. It's weird and very cool at the same time.
ELEPHANTMEN #52 by Boo Cook
Up next is the cover to ELEPHANTMEN #52 by artist Boo Cook. This may be the first time ELEPHANTMEN has been on our list, which is a shame because the covers to this book are very cool. What we like about this cover is the perspective here, looking down on the dead woman. It's cool to see Hip Flask's reflection in the pool of water and blood in the street as well. Boo's work on here is brilliant.
DETECTIVE COMICS #26 by Jason Fabok
Lastly, we have the cover for DETECTIVE COMICS #26 by artist Jason Fabok. This is a pretty creepy cover with the bats biting Batman's neck, but he's nothing more than a skeleton. One thing we really enjoyed about this cover is the bat silhouette border that works it's way around Batman. The bats even make their way into the background, so overall, this is a very full and complete piece with a lot to look at.
