It's time for the best comic book covers of the week! Each week, the Comic Vine staff picks out their favorite covers! This week, we're a bit late because we've been so busy doing interviews and other fun videos from New York Comic Con, but the best covers are finally here! Let's get it started in here!
INFINITY #4 by Adam Kubert
First issue up this week is INFINITY #4 by Adam Kubert. There were quite a few covers to this month's issue, but this one really took the cake. It's a pretty epic cover featuring Thor being all cool and stoic as the lightning bolt strikes old Mjolnir. We love the silhouette of the character taking center stage, and the whole layout of the cover is extremely cool. Never mess with a dude who can take a lightning strike to his mystic hammer!
ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #14 by Donovan Santiago
Next up, we have our first variant cover of the week! It's ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #14 by Donovan Santiago. Valiant is doing a second round of old school video game covers and here we have one modeled after the 2D fighter craze of the 90s. It's cool to see all the members of these insane groups at the top, like the Nazi Lama. Super cool art style here and a cover that makes me relive putting quarters on a Street Fighter II cabinet.
BATGIRL #24 by Alex Garner
This is by far the coolest cover of the week, and it's smack dab in the middle of this list. It's BATGIRL #24 by Alex Garner. It's an amazingly stunning piece. The page layout and the color work are absolutely fabulous (not the show). Commissioner Gordon, in the background, is a really cool looking. Barbara's face in incredibly intense here. You don't want to mess with her.
CHEW #37 by Rob Guillory (Both Covers)
There was no way we could choose between either of these covers for CHEW #37. They're both so sad/hilarious/awesome. Both covers were drawn by Rob Guillory. One cover is of Tony Chu about to eat some flesh and the other is his daughter, Olive Chu, about to do the same thing. The looks on both of their faces is priceless and is the perfect tone of the series as a whole.
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #24 by J.G. Jones
Look! It's GREEN LANTERN CORPS #24 by the amazing J.G. Jones! Relic looks super-mad, right? The layout here is really cool, and Jones' art always looks fantastic on covers featuring so more epic looking villains. The color work and shading are fantastic here.
BATMAN #24 by Guillem March
Next up is a variant cover for BATMAN #24 by Guillem March. Sure, the variant cover spoils what we all knew was going to happen in the issue, but that doesn't mean it isn't full of awesomeness. The perspective here is super cool, as the reader is Batman, trying not to let Red Hood One fall into the toxic chemicals. This is overall an extremely epic cover.
SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #1 by Tony Daniel
Lastly, we have the SUPERMAN WONDER WOMAN #1 by Tony Daniel. This was a HUGE cover that took up the back cover and folded out. If you love Superman and Wonder Woman villains then you're probably a big fan of this cover. We get to see Tony Daniel's take on all of these characters for the first time, and they look really cool in his art style.
There you have it. It was a pretty large week for best covers, but we got through most of the ones that we really loved. Did you super-love a cover this week and now you're super-mad it's not on our list? Well, just throw it into the comment section! See you next week!
