Bendis Confirms MOON KNIGHT Ending With Issue #12

The April, 2012 issue of MOON KNIGHT will be the final of the series.

If you read the solicits for Marvel's MOON KNIGHT recently then you may have caught a hint at the fact that issue #12 of the series will be the finale for both the series' headliners, writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev. Some fans hoped that just because the two comic creators were leaving the book, did not mean the series would be coming to an end. Unfortunately, that was not to be.

MOON KNIGHT #11
MOON KNIGHT #11

The news came earlier today from Bendis himself who revealed both he and Maleev would not only be leaving the series following MOON KNIGHT #12, but that no other creative team would be taking it over. That's right. The Moon Knight series is officially coming to an end.

Look at it as a 12 issue maxi series that kicked incredible ass which was what me and Alex were hired to do. I do wish it sold better and I do wish it was continuing with another team but I wish that about every comic on earth.

I am grateful we got to do our entire 12 issues. When you get to 12 you'll see we got to tell our entire story uninterrupted which is very nice. For you guys that supported it you'll have a nice whole thing.

There is a some light at the end of this dreary tunnel, however, as Bendis did indicate that he and Maleev would be returning to work on SCARLET, the writer's creator owned series published through ICON. While this is great news for SCARLET fans who haven't seen an appearance from the heroine since April. 2011; it is still a little bit bittersweet for Moon Knight fans who have been thoroughly enjoying the series. The next issue of MOON KNIGHT (#10) hits store shelves on February 29th, 2012.

wow another cancelled series from marvel..SHOCK! -__-probably so they can make more unnecessary avengers and/or xmen titles.

its like cmon marvel! there are other good characters that people do read its not just all about avengers and xmen! if they cut down on all those titles then people would probably be reading everything outside of the mainstream characters....i saay marvel should do with a reboot after their next couple of events. just like DC's new 52. just saying

His multiple personalities weren't other established characters though..they were basically just parts of Marc Spector.Kinf of like a Sentry\Void\Reynolds thing.

My local comic shop never remembered to pull the book for me, so it was always a dice roll whether I'd be able to keep up with it month to month. I did. If everyone else had the same problem I did, though, I could see where it would have had trouble finding an audience.

I had hoped the Bendis/Maleev team would have seen a return to the same level of storytelling they produced with Daredevil. I never got into their Moon Knight, though. The art was still beautiful, but the take on the character just didn't connect with me.

I think Moon Knight might just be suffering from revival fatigue. He's been brought back, again and again, in short succession, each time re-tooled with a new mission statement. Let the character stay on the shelf for awhile. Wait for the fan base to build up a renewed hunger for the character, and then try a new series. Take a look at the various series the character has held, and track the sales figures on the series for those years. Look at what worked, what resounded with the fan base. Then build from there. Chances are, if you're a fan of Moon Knight, then you're a fan of Moon Knight's supporting characters and villains. There's no reason not to use them, Considering the series on-again/off-again nature, it's not like all of those characters have been fully explored, or had their stories fully told. There's no reason why a Moon Knight series cannot work. It did work... very well, too... in the 70's & 80's. There's a foundation in place. They just need to build on it.

As much as I like Moon Knight...this better be his last series for a long while. And then InnerVenom123 will write a new one, and it will be amazing. Man, I love that guy. Seriously, I want his children. Inside of me.

Figured this would happen. Just want to die in a hole now. ;-(

Hopefully something better happens in the future, i knew this wasn't gonna last long though the way Moon Knight fans have been about the series. It brought in new readers but alienated the old ones badly. Here's to a creative team that can bring in both in the short/long future!

Fantastic news! How about we hand Moon Knight back to Mike Benson? The 2006 run should have never been cancelled.

I whole-fully agree. He seemed to have grasped how to write a great comic towards the end.

@Emac: Give me a break. Get over it, it's a comic character, and I doubt it was personal in the least. It was something that needed to be done as well. It's about time that some of these characters die off, and we are allowed to have new interesting characters come up in their place. How many times are you going to read what is essentially the same story over and over, and never experience anything new? come on now. Don't hate just because he killed of a fictional character you seemed to enjoy. Last time I checked Peter is alive and kicking in the 612 as it is. So not a big deal.

Well this just sucks. Sure the series was not Moon Knight's finest, but at least when Vengeance was canceled he was still on the Secret Avengers. Now between Remender taking him off that team and the Bendis book going under Moon Knight just fades into the background until next time. Marvel quit killing, ruining, or cancelling my favorite heroes!!!

Let this be a lesson. The excitement of Brian Michael Bendis returning to writing a noir street level book cannot eclipse the hatred readers have for Brian Michael Bendis making characters insane and doing whatever he wants with them.

I completely disagree with this post.Moon Knight gets cancelled so frequently they they John Byrne made a joke about it in the last issue of Sensational She-Hulk when that got cancelled.Moon Knight is simply one of those books that is on the edge between popular and expendable.Even when Marvel had less Avengers titles..this was the case. You can't blame Marvel or other books because a book that never really sold that well..still isn't.They even tried making him a member to help his popularity out and that didn't work either.

Exactly! I don't get where some people get this "Jake and Grant were his split personalties" from? He was undercover people. It's how law enforcement get their intel. Is every undercover agent in the world suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder just because they're posing as a criminal?

Moon Knight's only aspect of "insanity" is talking to an Egyptian God that no one else can see. Has been since volume 1. But does talking to your god and having them talk back actually mean you're insane anyway? I think that's debatable.

In the end, I'm happy that this series has ended. Hopefully the character will get a reboot in a few years and we can all pretend this never happened :)

If the god is real, you're not crazy. If the god is not real, you're crazy.

Khonshu's proven to be real, so Moon Knight talking to Khonshu may make people THINK he's crazy, but he's not.

EXACTLY!!! I didn't mind when marc snapped an retreated into those personas to deal with his problems. It made sense and was well handled. Bendis though...sigh, he writes the mentally ill with all the sensitivity and understanding as a Nazi running a concentration camp would Jews. And the way he wrote Marc seemed very regressive to me and threw out the progress he had made in soldering his fractured psyche.

As a MK fan I'm sad to see the title go but I'm happy that it means Bendis isn't writing it anymore. Bendis didn't do what he said he was going to do when he started the title and that was to do things with MK that hasn't been done before....MK is not just the mask but the man behind it as well and he seemed to just forgo MS almost completely.

Also as a whole Bendis is shit when he's doing stuff that isn't his own. I dropped the Avengers books because all the characters where Spidey clones. I hope he just sticks with creator owned stuff.

I remember Moon Knight being cancelled is in the 90s, because they got that Stephen Platt to draw it and for some reason he got this hyped-up vibe to work because they say it was 'like Todd McFarlane's' and he signed his name 'SPLATT'. Then the book ended he went to work for Liefeld on the Prophet series.

Wasn't there one not two years ago that was drawn by David Finch?

I usually enjoy Moon Knight, but recently the books just haven't been able to hold my attention. I'd like to see another cosmic title like Nova and/or Guardians of the Galaxy brought back, and finally find out what REALLY happened to Nova Prime and Star-Lord. You KNOW they aren't really dead.

I'll say what I said in the other forum:

I never read the series but it's always a shame when a 'small time' hero's ongoing is canceled. Plus the art was very pretty. And it was good that Echo had a place again. Although then again the whole concept of the series was a deliberate attempt in cashing in on the success of other heroes and trying to assosciate them with a minor one. I just find that insulting to the character. Not having faith in a character like that is shameful.

Art was pretty? I thought it sucked. Sucked HARD!

Maleev gets a 9, which is pretty crappy. 90% of my posts are complaining about how much I hate his art. LOL!

I just pray the next artist doesn't suck as bad as he does.
