Behold The Interlocking Return Of Bruce Wayne Covers

That's a nice piece of art.

You've probably heard about the upcoming Batman: Return Of Bruce Wayne comic that's coming in May from Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert. We've seen the penciled versions of the covers. Today, DC's The Source revealed colored versions that make a complete image when put together.

I have to say I'm not really sure how this series will go. The idea of Bruce running around through time seems a little...iffy. Will his actions in the past have any impact on the present? We also see that it looks like Bruce will return to the Batman guise (as he rightfully should) but what will that mean for Dick, if Damian doesn't kill him first, that is.

What are your thoughts on this mini? Do you still trust that Grant Morrison has this all figured out and Bruce's return will make perfect sense? What do you think about art? I think it's going to be crazy, but in a good way.

I need Bruce back as much as I needed Steve back or Buck or Barry or Hal for that matter, the mantle has been passed let them stay dead and write stories whit them that happen before they died or that take place in a parallel universe.

I'm beholdin', I'm beholdin'!  I cannot wait for this series!

And G-man, come on!!! why d'you want poor Dick to get offed!? I soooo do not support you're theory there! no no no... Bruce will be back and everyone will live happily ever after... well, as happily  as they can in Gotham anyways!

I trust Grant Morrison to the ends of the earth.

@ironshadow: The difference between Bruce and those heroes just mentioned is that Bruce is one of the defining superheroes that has appeared uninterupted for seventy one years as far back as Bruce's disappearance Grant Morrion's story has been about when and how Bruce would return. Allot of those guys come back to using the names because the later replacements don't hold up as much importance as their predecessors.

I never said I wanted Dick killed off. I didn't mention that in my other article. Just wondering if they'd be "crazy" enough to do that. It'd be a crazy twist if Bruce came back to find out his son, Damian, killed Dick.

This is really cool. I want to see Dick and Bruce on a piece of art by Tony Daniels, With their faces serious and they are back to back or facing front with their arms folded.

I'm glad he's back but doesn't seem like whenever marvel does something dc copies a few months later.

What if they pull a Captain America ploy and decide to make both Bruce and Dick be Batman, just like Steve and Bucky are both Captain America. They can cover more ground as two Batmans. Who knows?

Well they are doing his return like Cap's so it wouldn't surprise me of they would have 2 Batmans, double the fun.

The art always locks better with color.

@Flash Wildblaze: Well weren't people saying the same thing about how it was revealed Steve Rogers was in the past when Bruce was shown in lost in time before Cap? It's a coincidence. Also I just read the Grant Morrison interview and this book explores the history of Gotham and the DCU Captain America Reborn was about Steve Rogers in his own life. http://comics.ign.com/articles/107/1074539p1.html

The layout is AMAZING. I love how the covers form the Bat-symbol when put together.

As for Bruce returning, I think it's different from Captain America's, or Barry Allen's, or Hal Jordan's deaths. They were meant to be dead, or at least that's what DC and Marvel told us. With Bruce, that's not the case: we all knew from the first moment that the Omega Sanction does not kill, that he was bound to return sooner or later. And I really like the timing, to be honest. Dick has been Batman for a year now (which translate to something around six months in in-universe time, I guess). He has never felt confortable with the role, however. If it had been less time before Bruce crawled back through time, we wouldn't have had time for Dick to "become" Batman. If it had been more time, Dick would have become "rooted" in the character. About a year is perfect, I guess, to experience what is to have Dick as Batman, but not forget what the original, Bruce, is like.

My two cents, of course.

Is this really all right?
Giving Morrison the permission to recreate a character from scratch?
I think we know what happened when he rebooted doom patrol and the nightmare's including Gorillas and brains in a flask being in a "not minors allowed" situation

@Argentino_18:  Didn't Doom Patrol lose it's success when he left? And Grant Morrsion has been rebooting Batman since 2005 no one was paying attention till RIP.

Really psyched about Bruce returning, not so crazy about Grant Morrison though. I hated his Batman and Robin work, but the weird thing is that his JLA work was excellent. i'm still a bit iffy about this

amazing covers

Let's see. Looks like Botan The Batbarian (I know it's neanderthals), Soloman Wayne, Bat Beard, the Bat Rider, Bruce Tracey and the Batman.

Very good

Posted by danhimself

are you sure that they're interlocking?  besides the middle 2 none of the others really match

Posted by CATMANEXE
@Argentino_18:
cant say its happening to Bats...yet. but if you think about what just happened with the Superman rights,
and now the current lawsuits forming over much of Marvels character rights, rebooting characters and franchises might be a smart idea from that angle.

That would be really weird. Bruce comes back home to find out that his most trusted/Oldest adopted son is dead. And to find out that your own blood was the one who killed him.

I think too often people forget that Batman is a SUPERhero.  He has always had adventures that push the bounds of "reality"  and will continue to do so.  Grant Morrison, if anything, has made his place in the DCU more valid.

For the record, I like the idea of legacy heroes and the originals working side by side.  Why not?

Thanks for that link.  Before I looked at it, I couldn't see how they interlocked either.

Awesome covers!
Glad Bruce is coming back...
Even if it's just to slap Damien - and die again, it'll be worth it.

Those covers kick ass.

I wonder if they'll have him see his parents murder,or somehow interact with that. It'll be a good plot point to know that he can't do anything about it without destroying his existence as Batman forever. I'm so excited!

Posted by Argentino_18
@johnny spam: Yes, but it wasnt a "extreme makeover" of Batman, it were cosmetic changes..
Now he haves a license to reformulate Batman, his training his focus and his objetives...
Posted by johnny_spam
@Argentino_18:
Well Batman as always been rebooted and altered for different generations I think that's what keeps him so popular.

1930s batman is my favorite.

looks great!

I'm iffy about Bruce coming back. though he was the original and the best, i think i'd rather see Dick stay Batman. atleast for a while longer. maybe if he became more of a mentor, kinda like in Batman Beyond. he decides to leave it to Dick and just be there for moral support to make sure he doesnt screw up. maybe make him like Wildcat and train the younger heroes to make them perfect crime stoppers.
Posted by Chane
@johnny spam: not quite uninterupted, there was KnightQuest when Jean Paul took over, and Prodigal when Dick took over the first time
Posted by camodude

so only one person has seen his and commented on it but the middle images interlock to make the bat symbol as they branch out

Amen.

Between "hot" Iris and the nonsense with the orginal Zoom, Barry's return feels so forced and awkward. They hit paydirt with Hal and now everyone is following suit.

Stay dead next time.

I swear, the day that a major character stays dead will be amazing.

grant always rights good stories, even if they sometimes have small little holes in them .
I still cant imagine this being bad. But time will tell....

AWESOME COVERS!!!!
Posted by Secret Identity

From what I've heard this isn't exactly Bruce Waine " running around through time". It's more Bruce Waine's soul appearing in different times. So each of these "versions" of Batman are the full life of each individual. Bruce's memories don't go with him from what Morrison said in an interview i read. I have no idea whether I want to look forward to this story or not because all i KNOW is that i don't want Bruce back as Batman. Dick is doing great as Bats and I'm very much enjoying it. They might as well have just not bothered replacing him if he's coming right back.

Posted by comicnerdy

I don't know, the traveling through time thing still seems a bit cheesy to me.
Posted by jacobyLIVE
@Secret Identity: That sounds better. I thought it was going to be just like Caps return. If he comes back,I think he should  just play the role as Bruce did in Batman Beyond, because Dick is younger, and more able to fight crime than Bruce now

There's a fiery theme about Bruce's scenery isn't there?
