Batwoman #1 Preview: Will the Previous Stories Still Stand?

The long awaited Batwoman series is almost here.

For months we've been waiting for the new Batwoman series. Now with "The New 52," Batwoman will finally get her solo book. All eyes are on the character since it was revealed at her debut that she was a Lesbian. Yesteray, the Advocate ran an exclusive preview for the first issue. The article, "The Allure of the Lesbian Caped Crusader" is worth checking out. Unfortunately the images there were a little hard to read.

We managed to get some high res images so we can find out what's going on. There is a bit of a flashback/retelling of her origin. What might be surprising is the appearance of a familiar Batman nemesis. What will this mean for Batwoman?

Batwoman #1 is on sale September 14.

You're right. I can't view these previews so I simply looked at them, but I know who Mr Bones is?

I have to say this art is looking pretty amazing to me. Can't wait to get a copy of this.

FINALLY.  I loved the 0 issue they did back during the "Return of Bruce Wayne" arc, and have wanted to read this series since.
Glad they decided to hold it off until the new 52, rather than have a small window of build up before the re-launch.

I've been waiting too long for this I can't wait!

Yes! Its Mr. Bones! I didn't expect to see him again what with black mask being so recongnizable. But very cool none the less.
Posted by adribones
@ReVamp
no, it was directed at G-man, as there is no batman baddie in the preview.

I've been waiting for this series for quite a while now. Looking forward to staring at Williams III art.

I like the panels, tho some of them may be a little confusing.

Hooooooooly SHIT that is BEAUTIFUL.

If it's as good as Elegy, I'll pick it up and read it.  Not fond of the "The New 52" label on it.  The blue lettering and style of it doesn't look right with that cover, but oh well, not that bad.  I'll wait for the reviews tho..

I just hope we don't see her portrayed the way most lesbians in comics are portrayed. Namely as ultra-promiscuous. It's ok for Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark to be portrayed as whores because Bruce has to put on a show and Tony IS one, but we don't need to be reminded that characters like Renee Montoya and Kate are lesbians by seeing them asleep in bed with yet another random, no-name, lipstick-lesbian girlfriend who they are having problems with relationship wise and quickly break up with (wow, help grammar police, oh well). Let's see Kate in a meaningful, longer-term relationship like Peter Park.., I mean Clark Ke..., um Reed and Sue. Yeah. Actually, those others had relationships that lasted quite a while and so have others. Hopefully Kate will be added to that mix OR just left out of a relationship all together. The first time I see her in bed with a random who leaves her a note telling her she's too distant, I'm OUT! And I don't mean of the closet.

Two weeks too far for my tastes, but I'm glad this is finally seeing the light of day. Reeder and William III, they could put no words in this comic and I guarantee it would still sell at least one copy. I was just wondering the other day why we haven't seen Black Mask pop up anywhere, lo and behold, there (s)he is, I just wonder if any of the stuff that David Hine with the character last year will carry over, or if they're just going to keep him the same as he was? None the less, glad to see Black Mask.

Not that interesting to me, but this is still on my radar.

Right on! Nice to see they haven't retconned the Elegy storyline.

@Or35ti: Williams' panels have been taking some getting used to lately.   Elegy would've been perfect if it weren't for one or two cluttered pages, but it usually evens out nicely.

alas, no Black Mask - it's Director Bones.   think of him as Waller's right-hand man.   nevertheless, I hope Hines' work carries over as well

I really don't think this book would've happened without the reboot. Honestly I couldn't care less about Kate Kane (or whatever) but I must admit Williams work is so majestic I'm almost tempted to buy this title. If Rucka had been writing still I'd probably be all over this. I hope Williams winds up on a character I'm actually invested in alongside a writer I enjoy one day.

I hope they don't throw away the little development she has had so far. I realize things are changing in the DC universe but I hope they continue on with her from where they left off an not from scratch.

Posted by blackkitty

I seriously doubt they will make her overly promiscuous, at least they didn't do so in her previous series and I see no reason why they would do so now. She's always been handled with tact and taste.

Nice cover.

@The Velvet Rabbit Egg on my face then, but on a quick glance they look so similar. Time to hit the Wiki.
Posted by The Velvet Rabbit
@fenixREVOLUTION: it's alright - he's a pretty obscure guy, and he really does look a lot like Black Mask, especially now that he's not really a supervillain and he's just a skeleton in a suit.   honestly, if it weren't for the DEO banner on the page, I wouldn't have figured it out myself.

Can't wait! Just look how beautiful that 2nd panel is

I can understand if you're not for gay marraige, and some people are. You need to respect other people's opinions.  If you don't like the book, and trust me on this, Didio is not forcing you to buy it.

@1fearless1: "poison the minds of our young readers"?   please, PLEASE don't start with that nonsense.

I am rather confused by your statement? Hmmm....I never recall batwoman putting poison in the minds of children? If so that is a very viscous thing to do...though I have never seen a comic book with such a capability to put poison in the minds of the young, or even the old? That is quite an advancement if they can do such it would be incredible and Batwoman would hold an even greater use, as being the first comic book to ever be able to interact with the reader in such a way. Kill off this gay character? hmmm well I mean gay is not the proper term, so I am confused as to when Batwoman got a gender change? or if she is a man, like you are inferring and she likes women, she would not be gay in the first place? I mean the more you talk the more rivetting this comics sounds. I mean a gender change to a male while upholding a female appearance and feigning to like women, with also the capabilities to inject poison into the person reading the comic? I can not wait even more than before. I never saw a this and that bat? Though they sound like they might be like thing 1 and thing 2 from Dr. Seuss, I always say the more the merrier, Bats are cute too, yes? I find them adorable? SO either way I think "this" and "that" as well as the possible "woman" (though he may she may be a he and gay from what you said so ironic name I guess) and more cute bats are always welcome.

Thank you for the preview Tony. I have been waiting for this book for so long. This and Batgirl are my two most anticipated books.

J.H. Williams will rock this. Kate is a powerful and gorgeous hero. The art is amazing.

I agree with the rest, which is very well said!, Oh I am loving the art too, its exactly the type of technical skill mixed with quirky artistic merit I think is good for comics and attracted new people. *nods*

Ok, I can add Wonder Woman to my top most anticipated too, but I am more nervous about WW. I am afraid they may eff it up and I'll have to bite my tongue for a year of reviews. Though I am now good with the stupid pants I don't care what she is wearing anymore. I think they have broke me down. hahah.
