The Merc with the Mouth or the Merc with an Eye? This week, our Character of the Month, Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke, was forced to battle his comedic counterpart from Marvel, Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool. The community has been voting and chatting about this brawl since Monday and now the poll is closed. All of the votes are in, so who's taking the victory? Well, according to the voters, Deadpool wins!

The poll was extremely close, but in the end, Deadpool snagged 47% and Deathstroke earned 46%. Meanwhile, 6% thought this battle was just way too close to call.

Deadpool may not have the same level of "street cred" as Slade Wilson does, but he's not a character anyone should ever underestimate. Heck, Gambit even stated one time that fighting Wade would be suicide. Sure, the X-Man was beyond exhausted and injured at the time, but the overall point remains. Wade Wilson may often be viewed as a clown, but his abilities as a combatant are definitely no joke. His agility is spectacular and this has allowed him to smoothly dance around teams. His hand-to-hand abilities aren't shabby, either. Yeah, they fluctuate from time to time, but it's important to recall he's been able to temporarily hold his own in a skirmish with Iron Fist and has been able to give Wolverine some trouble, too.

Then there's his accelerated healing factor. Slade has one as well, but it's not on par with his opponent's. This means Wade can stay in the fight even after enduring what would be game changing injuries for countless others. Even if Slade does impale Wade through the chest, there's a good chance he'll be able to keep fighting and this could serve as a critical advantage and even potentially catch his enemy off-guard. There's also Deadpool's constant rambling. To some, this can become an obnoxious distraction and cause people to slip-up or make mistakes they normally wouldn't. It's worth noting that "Deadpool" was able to annoy Deathstroke in SUPERMAN/BATMAN ANNUAL #1, but whether or not you agree with that is obviously up for debate. Slade is one of the most focused and tactical mercenaries around, after all.

In the end, we're just happy to see the poll was so close and hopefully everyone had fun speculating about this melee. Now, let's check out what some members of the Comic Vine community think about this battle!

"It's gotta be Deadpool for me here. Both are extremely talented mercenaries but I give the slight edge to Deadpool thanks to his regenerative abilities. Deadpool has gone toe to toe with the likes of Taskmaster, Black Panther, Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America, Carnage, Crossbones, Daredevil, Moon Knight....etc. and has either given a great fight or won. I think they're equally skilled but Deadpool's factor and general insanity would prove to be too much."

"Deathstroke...

While both mercenaries are capable of giving each other a run for their money, Deathstroke's superior physicals and tactical/strategic prowess should grant him the edge against Deadpool's healing factor.

Although Slade cannot kill Wade, he can probably knock him out or incapacitate him as he is likely to gain the upper hand in close quarters combat due to his enhanced reflexes and strength to go along with his superior skill.

In a firefight, despite Deadpool's advantage of regenerating through bullets, Slade will eventually gain the edge through his brain processing speed and tactical mastermind. Not to mention Slade's gear being too effective against bullets as well as him being a superb marksman. What a firefight will eventually come down is to Slade collapsing a wall or building on Wade using explosives such as grenades or his staff. Wade is too durable to lose just by being shot but at the same time Slade is too smart to botch at finding a way around Wade's regenerative abilities.

Slade's armor should grant him enough protection to eventually outsmart and beat Wade using tactical attacks if this fight boils down to a firefight between the two.

In close quarters Slade should be able to win by knockout for a majority.

Slade for a 7.5-8/ Majority...."

"This is a great battle, one that I have been thinking about for awhile. Both of these characters are very similar and the fight would be incredible to watch.

To break down the fight, Slade has an advantage tactically wise, his brain allows him to process and calculate at an elevated rate in comparison to Deadpool. Slade also has better stats in my honest opinion. I have compared feat by feat with people in other battle thread and the consensus is that Slade has slightly better reaction feats. And skill wise, they are VERY close, however wade sometimes has trouble applying himself due to his comedic personality.

Weaponry, Deadpool's magic bag, or endless pocket etc.. Is a big factor, it allows Deadpool to seemingly pull out bazooka's grenades etc.. From essentially out of nowhere, this will play a factor in this fight. Slade weaponry is his promethium sword and Promethium blasting staff, assortment of guns and explosives which he uses consistently. Weapon wise, Wade has a slight advantage with his two swords and bottomless satchel.

Now let's look at healing factor/durability. Wade has one of the best healing factors in all of comics, it allows him to heal from almost any injury. The downside that many people overlook however is how easily he in fact gets KO'ed. He will heal and survive any injury, but he can and will get KO essentially by any of Slade's weaponry.

Slade has volitile promethium armor, and a weaker healing factor, which could play a role in this fight. wade no doubt beats him in the healing department, but Slade has nice durability. From feat to feat, and from what I have seen, it takes more force to knock Slade out. People like Terra couldn't do it even though she can manipulate huge chunks of earth and smash him through walls.

All in all, I think that since Slade's weapons are extremely lethal, such as his sword, explosives, and blasting staff, he can essentially get a KO while Slade's durability will prevent him from going down from anything short of a decapitation or a ton of sword strikes. Slade can take all of Deadpool's ranged weaponry with his armor and healing, while Deadpool can essentially get KO'ed from Slade's blasting staff due to having no armor. And in melee, Slade's slightly better stats, brain enhancement/tactical ability, and equivalent skill should give him the edge there. The best healing factor in the world is meaningless if you get your head blown off by Slade's staff, or get decapitated."

"If Deadpool is even mildly serious, he would win. Too many fights have him just goofing around for fun, he tanks hits and that leads people to believe he's unskilled. When Deadpool actually WANTS to win though, he's one of the most dangerous men in the Marvel U. The same can be said for Deathstroke, but Deadpool has the advantage of being crazy. Pepole underestimate how dangerous unpredictability is, it's what lead to Joker putting Slade into a coma, it'll be what leads to Wade putting Slade in the dirt. Perhaps they're even in acrobatics, but Deadpool is more wiry, he's always zigzagging around running circles, combined with his banter Deathstroke will have a headache in no time. When Slade DOES tag, the wound will just heal. Sooner or later Deathstroke will lose focus, and that spells death. In sheer technical knowledge, Deadpool 100% stalemated Captain America in H2H. Overall, he was smart enough to beat the Avengers with no prep. He's skilled enough to go tit for tat with Slade long enough for the banter to take effect, Deathstroke can only win by decapitation and that will take awhile to happen."

Slade isn't very happy that he lost by 1%.
