I might have to get it. Even though you were hard on the issue, you still gave it a 4.5.

Posted by Darkchild

I really enjoyed it.

Batman is not actually dead, this was explained in the last Final Crisis. Also the Superman example could applied to so many Batman  crisis'

That's the thing, I'm not crazy about all the crossovers but I did enjoy it.  Great art.  Good writing.  Loved seeing the whole 'gang' around.  We have a good mystery going.  I really didn't think I was going to enjoy it.

Oh and I do really like Tim Drake.  He's just so much fun to do with that voice.  Maybe I should review every issue he's in.

I avoided it because I was afraid of how poorly it would be done, but with Tony Daniel it must be pretty good.

Darkseid unleashes his Omega Sanction beam, the "life that is death", upon Batman and his charred corpse is recovered by Superman. However, the Omega Sanction does not kill its victims: instead, it sends their consciousness travelling through parallel worlds, and at the conclusion of Final Crisis, it is made clear that this is the fate that has befallen the still-living Batman, as he watches the passing of Anthro in the distant past.

I do not have the scans. And I cannot post full page scans anyway.

G-Man you are far too generous in your ratings! This issue was barely a 3.5. We're only reading it to find out who Batman is, and for something so simple i want to be engaged throughout the entire comic. This issue was just alright... minus a few scenes i've already forgotten the entire thing.

That's the nice thing about us all having our own opinion.  I liked the art.  I liked the writing.  We get all our favorite Bat-characters involved.  There's the mystery angle going on where we don't know how things will necessarily end.  Are parts of this cliche?  Of course.  Pretty much all comic books are cliche.   I didn't want to care about this "event" but I am hooked.  It is reminiscent to "Knightfall" but it could end up being better.  I didn't look at is the issue that would give us all the answers.  Of course they will drag this on for a few months otherwise it wouldn't be an "event."

Bottom line, it entertained me.  I can't really remember the last time I was really excited about a Batman story.  Don't get me started on R.I.P.   I can't say I'll enjoy the rest of the story as much.  I think things have been set up where it could be really interesting.  We'll have to wait and see.

That issue was a 4.25

That makes sense.  I liked it too much to just give it a 4.  To me a 4 is just above average.  I'm not looking at in the grand scheme of the history of comics.  Who knows, this story could become too cliche and take a massive dive.  Based on this issue alone, I started getting excited.  But ask me again after I'm forced to buy a gazillion tie-ins to figure out what's going on.

Maybe i'm just still too new to Batman to be bouncing off the walls about it. It had pretty pictures, nice writing, but nothing made me want to turn the page. I wasn't gripped, i wasn't enthralled, i just felt like i was reading another comic not a major event. Maybe a second read through will prove a better reading experience.

GRRRRR!

C'mon G-Man give it a little bit of love. -_-

Nice video, you made some good points. However this is about Batman and the Bat family, not about Superman. He's busy in outer space after Final Crisis, or whatever.

I do have to say that since she's taking over Detective Comics (hopefully for a long run) I'm glad we had the Batman RIP story.  Just so she can shine in the spotlight.

Why doesn't Superman just come in and solve all of the problems? Because that would be lame...duh (and he is in his other planet at the other side of the sun)

I think that the difference between Prodigal son and Battle for the cowl for Dick is that in the first one, Bruce asked him to take the mantle while he was gone, in here they all believe Batman is dead, if anyone takes the mantle it probably is like accepting he is finally gone, guess that's why Dick hasn't chosen to take the mantle even though everyone knows and says that he is the one man for the job.

Funny fact: Dick appears with the cowl at the cover of the issue, yet is the only one of the three contendants (Dick, Tim and Jason) to don't wear the costume in this issue

I know but I just remembered the video of my thread "What if Superman was in the Dark Knight" so I'm a little sensible on that subject :P

I bought the book & after reading it I had flashback to the mid 90's.

Death of Superman & the Reign of the Supermen, anyone?

We all know how that turned out don't we. :)
Posted by G-Man

I have no idea what video or thread you're talking about.  But as long as you're "sensible" on it.  But it's not like Superman can't fly back to Earth if he wanted.  That's why he's so super.

I dont clap in front of my laptop but i  just did THANK YOU FOR SAYING WHAT WE HAVE ALL BEEN THINKING!.  I agree about the Tony Daniels his artwork is pretty much what got me thru Batmn Rest in Piece.  I also bought this issue I am huge Batman fan but seriously if he is gone lets just get Dick into the Cowl so we can move on already.  Pretty harsh but I also bought the issue so from what i heard  from you G-Man it shouldnt be to hard to read.

Posted by G-Man

Maaaaaybe I was a tiny bit harsh.  I'm just reeeeeeally tired of all these "events."  Despite that, I did give it a 4.5.  It was fun.  As far as Tony Daniels, he's the boss, forget Tony Danza.

Oh gawd, the end of the video, haha. Tim's thinking, "Stephanie... who?"

Black Mask's gave-you-a-radio-activated-drug-while-you-were-sleeping spiel seemed very out of place, albiet an unimportant place.

I never knew Poison Ivy had moral-esque qualities; at first she's scantily clad, but when confronting pussy boy Damian, she puts on some 'clothes'. She's cute either way.

Edited by DMC

LOL G-Man what is you problem with Tim?......anyway It was a good issue and all (the fake batman running around looks sick) but at this point I'm not so hyped about Battle for the Cowl but I'll buy it in Graphic Novel form.
I'm waaay more excited about what happens after BFTC.

THE DYNAMIC DUO IS BACK!!!!!

Yeah, G-Man, you should lay off of Tim.
