Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - What We Want to See

Warner Bros. has big plans for the DC cinematic universe and we can't wait to see how it'll all be handled. Only time will tell what they have in store for us, but for now, we want to have some fun and share our own ideas for the movie!

In 2016, we'll finally get to see Batman and Superman share the big screen. The follow-up to Man of Steel will also include Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and probably Aquaman and Flash. Needless to say, we're all incredibly anxious to see how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is handled and, on March 25, 2016, director Zack Snyder will get to show us if the expansion of the DC cinematic universe lives up to the hype. It's a pretty long wait and we'll have plenty of other comic book movies and TV shows to enjoy until then, but we can't help but think about the hugely anticipated DC movie and share what we really want to see in it!

*Contains Man of Steel spoilers*

Watch Wonder Woman kick some butt

No Caption Provided

Whether you're optimistic or pessimistic about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the first time you heard the movie will include Wonder Woman was more than likely an exciting bit of news. Not only are we getting Batman and Superman, but we know Wonder Woman's present and she won't just be a quick cameo. Now, we all have our different opinions on Gal Gadot being cast as Diana and we have no idea how significant her role will be, but after Warner Bros' SDCC panel showed what she looks like in her signature attire -- sword, armor and all -- we better see her in action, too! Even if it's just one standout battle scene, it'll be thrilling to see Wonder Woman step up and prove why she's formidable on the big screen.

If I remember correctly, Snyder previously called her a very powerful character, so here's hoping he gets a chance to prove it. We have no idea how her new mythos will be handled, but asking for one memorable action scene with Diana kicking some serious butt really asking to much, is it?

The aftermath of the Metropolis battle

No Caption Provided

Love or loathe Man of Steel, many of us will agree it was jarring to jump from the end of the conflict with Zod to a somewhat comedic bit some time later in a totally different location. What went down in Metropolis was huge and we need to see some proper follow-up.

First and foremost, this is something Lex Luthor needs to take advantage of if he wants to turn the public against the Kryptonian. Seeing as he's, you know, Lex Luthor, that's something he'll obviously want to do. Sure, a majority of the damage was done by the World Engine, but if Kal-El wasn't on this planet and if he didn't turn against his fellow aliens, some of the people may think thousands of lives wouldn't have been lost in Metropolis (even though Zod was going to kill everyone anyway). Some will view Superman as a savoir and thank him for saving the planet from Zod, but others will blame Superman for the destruction and Luthor needs to be there to add fuel to the fire. On top of that, his Corporation studying Kryptonian technology means we can open the door to the genius discovering Superman's weaknesses. As we all know, this can eventually lead to Metallo, an armor suit of his own, and so much more. And, just like fans still argue about what happened with Zod, Luthor can use Superman killing Zod as more material against the hero. Will this powerful alien deem himself judge, jury and executioner when it comes to humanity's criminals? Obviously he won't, but Luthor can still spin it in a pretty effective way and make some of the public hate and fear Superman even more.

Speaking of Zod's neck getting snapped, we really need to see that receive some solid follow-up, too. Some of us like why it was done, others think it shouldn't have been done at all and another conclusion should have been reached. No matter how you feel about it, that's the path they chose and now we need to see them double-down on the decision and turn it into something positive for everyone. Superman was forced to kill what he believes to be the last person of his race ("he believes to be" because we had that Supergirl easter egg and it's unknown whether they'll actually follow through with that). He feels like an outsider on a planet full of billions of humans, and he chose those people over his own. Something that big has to take a toll on the hero and give him one heck of an epiphany. His first major challenge as Superman saved the world, but also had thousands of casualties and left his Kryptonian foe deceased. If anything, it should now motivate Clark into a "there's always another way" mentality. Seeing as this universe will now adapt to the existence of super powered beings, more "comic book-ish" elements will hopefully be put in place and allow for more alternatives in future conflicts. Only time shall tell, but Superman killing Zod is one of the most heavily discussed parts of the film and there's no way that has eluded the cast and crews' ears.

Batman vs. Superman needs to be epic

No Caption Provided

When news first broke that the next movie would feature Batman and Superman, we weren't sure if they'd follow through with the iconic fight scene from Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. I mean, how could you think Batman stands a chance after seeing Kal-El's physical displays in Man of Steel, right? But after SDCC's teaser showed Batman in armor, we NEED to see a jaw-dropping fight between these two happen.

Many of us suspected Batman won't trust Superman, he'll study the alien and then use his mind to test Clark and they'd eventually reach a truce, but that teaser makes it clear that it's go time and a big brawl is almost guaranteed to happen (if not, that would such a cruel tease). If you've seen The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (if not, go watch both of them), then you know this fight can translate very well and deliver some seriously cool material. Sure, part of us will be saying "HOW is Bruce okay?!" as it goes down, but as long as they make it clear Clark is holding back and they end as allies, it should be a thoroughly entertaining time. Here's hoping both characters get proper respect and they don't disregard innocents as they duke it out.

A more charismatic and confident Superman

No Caption Provided

Henry Cavill looks the part extremely well and there were a few bits in Man of Steel which gave him some good dialogue, but much of the movie was showing Clark Kent's internal conflict over his place in the world and he didn't have many opportunities to feel as confident and inspiring as many fans expected him to be. Now that Superman has faced his first big obstacle and saved the planet, it would be great to see his personality shine through with his words more than his physical presence. He's got the latter down -- we see plenty of that in MoS -- but it's time to give him more inspiring dialogue, especially if he's going to get into a conflict with the intellectual Bruce Wayne, face the brilliant Lex Luthor, and possibly form the Justice League. He's got the look and the posture, now let's get more of the charming and uplifting personality!

Less product placement, more worldbuilding

No Caption Provided

Look, we can all tolerate a moderate amount of product placement, but it becomes seriously distracting when stores and brands are suddenly a prominent point in various shots. We don't know where the line originated, but "The 'S' stands for Sears" is a good example of the absurd amount of product placement that was in MoS. Yes, they had a good amount of fan service with easter eggs, but if Waner Bros. is now building the hype for a Justice League movie, let's have less focus on getting some extra cash from big names and more easter eggs, yeah? Why will the Justice League potentially form or meet one another? Who's the big bad and will we see hints of their presence? How can they organically justify Aqauman, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and possibly the Flash existing in this universe? Man of Steel had various teasers here and there, but Justice League is going to follow this movie and we need to feel that buildup. It shouldn't overshadow or hinder the plot with Lex Luthor, but we need to feel the tension growing and finally get a feeling that DC has its own evergrowing cinematic universe and look forward with optimism and excitement.

I just hope this movie isn't too crowded and done well.

A more charismatic superman

A good battle of Bruce displaying his tactical genius and superman clearly being the more powerful character yet still being a stalemate showing that they are complimentary and clearly the worlds finest team up.

Then I'll have faith in DC movies for once

What i want to see:

The movie starts with W.W kicking a$$ for some reason...and then sudenly Clark appears, and he's acting like the nicest guy in the world, and everyone loves him for that...but then he slowly becomes arrogant, and a jerk, but everyone fears him, so no-one moves a finger towards him...but then he gets worse, and starts hurting people...Bruce appears in the shower with Catwoman, and we get to see Selina naked...Alfred tells Bruce that this has to stop, and Batman agrees, then W.W appears kicking a$$ again for some reason...in the end of the segment, Batman shows up wearing a super durable-super amping-stats and owns Superman...that's it for me...in the last moments of the movie, W.W and Bruce are seen making out.

THE END.

Ok. Lets get this straight Guys. The Guy in Man Of Steel was not Superman. He was Clark trying to become someone new, a beacon of hope, Trying to become Superman. That's why I like the wordplay. Man Of Steel to signify he's not Superman quite yet. Now in Batman V "Superman" by the middle or end he will be the Definitive Superman.

The only product placement that bothered me was the Nokia phone and 'Japanese camera first' scene. The focus was just so wrong.

I'm not sure why that open pod in the Kryptonian ship is a "Supergirl easter egg." That ship landed thousands of years ago.

My theory is that, thousands of years ago, a Kryptonian got out, and bred with some humans. This could be the reason there are super powered Amazons like Wonder Woman. Somewhere in her gene pool, she might have Kryptonian DNA. But her race has evolved beyond it.

How could they evolve by mating with what should technically be an inferior species? Though, I suppose it depends on how weakened Kryptonian genes were at that point. Apparently they couldn't even conceive children the typical way anymore. Kal-Els' birth was made out to be a miracle.

By "evolved beyond it," I didn't mean became better than Kryptonians. I just meant they're no longer Kryptonian like but something else.

I was under the impression that on Krypton, in the movie universe, natural childbirth was illegal/forbidden, not impossible. In Jor El's explanation, he basically tells Clark that he and Laura didn't believe in the eugenic creation of the population by the society and rebelled by having a natural born child. He says, that's why they risked so much to save him.

Also, maybe the Kryptonian that mated with a human didn't see them as inferior. Or simply wasn't a jerk...or perhaps the Kryptonian was male and was totally a jerk which gave rise to all the Myths of Zeus and his offspring.

In any case, it's a possible direction they might take or may not take. It's Sci Fi/Fantasy. I figure, if a Kryptonians can get superpowers from the sun, then why not?

There's no "crying" in the article about Superman's finale with Zod; just asking to follow-up on it. It was obviously a huge deal for him and deserves more attention.

@g_leno: You are in the minority my friend. As much as I loved the Nolan trilogy, that is not the Batman we are getting now. The human perfection version will finally be on screen and will bring down Superman. It's not ridiculous at all. Intelligence beats everything.

Heat-Vision Lobotomy > Intelligence

This Batman is supposed to be older, anyway. His mind may be at it's peak, but his body is another story.

I actually want her role to be very limited.

  • The aftermath of the Metropolis battle

There has to be. It would be a terrible idea not to explore that.

  • Batman vs. Superman needs to be epic

Not me. I like these characters equally but if Superman doesn't run rough-shot over Batman it will be dumb beyond high hell. Unless you mean epic in the sense that Batman creates this epic plan after plan that amounts to nothing and doesn't really have an effect. Then I can get behind it.

Kinda like when Ult Cap took on Ult Hulk. That to me was an epic fight that with Cap doing all this crazy sh!te that basically amounted to nothing. Cap lost completely yet looked more bad@$$ than he did when winning fights because he was fighting up. You can't do that the other way around.

  • A more charismatic and confident Superman

I'm down with that. We need more hope building in the Superman character.

  • Less product placement, more worldbuilding

The product placement didn't actually bother me. I remember in a video before the movie came out they mentioned they purposely put that there. I can't remember what they said but their intention was part of their effort to help it like this guy who can do all these unbelievable things could exist in our world. It was subtle and indirect but it did have an effect on me. For me that was a small part of world building in itself. The world we live in is one big product placement itself.

Agreed

I agree as well.

I don't see a problem with product placement. It didn't bother me at all.

Especially considering how many people consider Marvel realistic, because they take place in real cities instead of fictional ones, but all of a sudden having real places or companies in a DC movie is all of a sudden a problem.

Bottom line, if I was paying a truck load of money to help make a movie, I would want a cameo in it too.

I think it would be weird to have the whole Wonder Woman movie be made into a flashback like that. Her movie would have a lot of back story to cover, but I'd expect the majority of the movie to take place after the movies that come before it. I actually think that could be a good thing since it lets them skip the whole fish out of water thing, and the traditional origin film format. I could see the film actually be about her first time coming back to Themysica rather then her first time leaving it.

It was only confirmed of Lex, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and I think Cyborg but obviously before his mechanic self. Why do we need a background of who Batman is didn't we get that with the Nolan Trilogy and the many other batman films? Why get background on any of the top known heroes? And who said that each character is getting a lot of screen time? Wasn't it stated that Wonder Woman was getting a brief appearance and not to long? So what was oversaturated?

DC / WB is desperate, so desperate they are pulling this stunt of a movie without even a back ground of the current Batman, WW or Aquaman and then Lex is being introduced also? Sure lets toss some more Heroes in the mix, why not. Come the hell on, this is going to be a slap in the face to the fans. How much crap do you really think they can toss into a 2 hour movie?

Okay. How do you know?! Big casts can work in movies if used correctly (LOTR, Harry Potter etc, hell even the original Star Wars had a numerous characters.) Batman doesn't need a background, we've known his background for 75 years. Wonder Woman has always had a confusing origin, it doesn't need to be here and Aquaman can just be introduced as the King of Seven seas, he's known to people since the superfriends and other various media. Lex Luthor is the same. Not everyone needs origins certainly the ones they are using here.

Wonder Woman does have a pretty complex origin that I'd agree for the most part can be saved till she gets a solo film. In this film I think there will be some explanation that her island appeared out of no where after the World Machine was activated in Man of Steel. We might also meet Steve Trevor who's been assigned as her military escort. Maybe we'll also learn that her powers "Come from the gods" but no more explanation given that that. Batman might even be like "BS you're probably another alien."

Lex will probably get a a bit more back story to explain this young version of him, but no flashbacks or anything like that to do it. Victor Stone will make a brief appearance then be fatally injured during one of the action sequences around the middle of the movie. Then after the final fight we get a little peak of him waking up as Cyborg inside Star Labs. With Aquaman I think we'll hear new about a group which is obviously the Atlantians terrorizing commercial fishing boats. Only ever getting a brief glimps of Aquaman himself. I'm hoping for a Zatanna easter egg too.

All seems pretty doable to fit in this movie. I don't think we'll see or hear anything about Flash or Green Lantern in this movie though. I think that's a good thing since it leaves a little more to look forward to when Justice League comes.

  • I honestly didn't care for the product placement (we don't have Sears, iHop etc in New Zealand, so it was part of the scenery to me.)
  • The destruction wasn't a problem to me, it was just rawer and realistic than Marvel's efforts (which is why people were probably complaining about it.) However I would like to see the aftermath and it will be dealt with like all national disasters.
  • The villains should be fantastic, DC/WB know their villains and we have been lacking a good comic villain for awhile (Michael Shannon was good thou far better than Marvel's.)
  • An awesome shot of the trinity.
  • More Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
  • A lot of world building, particularly the polar opposites of Batman and Superman, Gotham needs to be dark as hell itself and Metropolis should be the city of tomorrow.
  • Wonder Woman needs to kick ass as does Lois Lane.
  • Zack Synder's pacing needs to be streamlined.

@i_dont_like_comics: so how should superman have dealt with Zod?

Phantom zone? Deal with him before the problem escalated? Ask Jor-El what he could have done since he has dealt with Zod before?

Did he even know how to get to The Zone? The situation escalated pretty quickly, and Jor-El didn't deal with Zod. He got him sent to the Phantom Zone, which leads back to my first question.

@scouterv: But it doesn't. If we didn't know who Superman was, you'd think he was a villain. He was relentlessly going after the heroes and caused needless destruction.

Green Lantern attacked him first.
Batman showed up with Lantern, and his outfit doesn't exactly scream "good guy," now does it? Superman saw him as a potential danger, and he was holding the same box another potential danger held.

Superman had Batman by the neck, and when challenged, Batmans' response was smoke pellets.

What I'm getting at, is that, Superman was dealing with people who threatened him/appeared to be dangerous.

But that's not the point. You're talking about the build-up and aftermath.

I'm talking about the action that took place. The same thing, essentially, should happen any time Batman tries to fight Superman. Whether it's their first meeting, or Batman asks Superman to spar with him.

I'll be honest. The main thing I want is the film to spend time on superman. Cavil is easily one of the greatest superman actors and I really want to see the Clark Kent angle. Undoubtedly there will be a fight with superman and batman and all I can hope for is that superman isn't sacrificed as character to make batman look good. I'm not bothered by the destruction in fact I don't want the entire film to be anti superman. It's funny I went to see MOS with my dad (another massive superman fan who doesn't read comics) he wasn't at all bothered with the destruction. When He asked me about the new film and I told him that superman was to be held accountable he literally erupted into laughter. He said. "Right so superman had to find a way to save the buildings of metropolis while fighting a blood thirst soldier? Yeah because that's possible. Just shows how grateful people are". Guess we're in the minority.

@handofprometheus: you're wrong.

They went out of their way to show Hulk barreling through a building filled with people. Man of Steel showed us empty buildings and some how people complain about its level of destruction.

The number one thing I don't want is Wonder Woman introduced as Diana Prince. I'm fine with her not unveiling her powers or costume till the end, but she should be openly living as Princess Diana of Themyscira the entire time.

@scouterv: But it doesn't. If we didn't know who Superman was, you'd think he was a villain. He was relentlessly going after the heroes and caused needless destruction.

@k4tzm4n: Just saying Metallo being in the movie seems to be the most prevalent theory right now, and to me it doesn't make sense.

Ahhhh okay. Thought you were responding to the comment about Metallo in the article. Carry on :D

What do i actually want in BvS...

Batman vs Superman in Batman vs Superman.

BRAINIAC!!! It would be so great if only they would make of Lex Luthor a character that will be against Superman BUT only as the one who will disaprove Superman's actions after Metropolis Battle. And they would make Brainiac the actual threat that would UNITE Batman, Superman and WW.

I would like to see a Bruce Wayne vs Lex Luthor like...a talk fight.

WW kick somebody's a$$

And A GLIMPSE OF LUTHOR'S KRYPTONITE SUIT

That's pretty much what I want. Brainiac as the main villain but maybe he was unleashed by Lex Luther. Although Lex should stay get away with it all scot-free at the end so he can be the main villain in the third Man of Steel movie with like a Public Enemies story line or something. Other then that in this film maybe he's doing his smear campaign against Superman, or what might actually be more interesting is if he's trying to get all buddy buddy with Superman to see how much control he can have over him.

@rulerofthisuniverse:

Marvel does it = Funny and creative.

DC does it, especially if it is in Man of Steel = The worst thing ever.

Iron Man, Captain America and Batman all killed, but when Man of Steel does it and it is the most unimaginable thing ever.

I mean, Batman killed in Batman(1989), Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and you can't even find a comic panel where he's every killed before, but no one Bats an eye. Superman kills Zod, something he's done before in comics and everyone loses their mind.

Same goes for the destruction: Captain America UNLEASHES Hulk to cause havoc and it is funny and creative, Superman gets thrown into buildings and they're trying to make Superman into a jerk.

Captain America gave the order "Hulk, smash." And that was hilarious to everyone.

Man of Steel is the most unfairly persecuted comicbook movie ever. And I thought The Dark Knight Rises was unfairly persecuted.

As long as your characters are funny, people don't care about the rest.

I didn't even notice the product placement.

I didn't until I watched it on Blu Ray. The one that stuck out the most to me was the Ma Kent worked at Sears.

@i_dont_like_comics: so how should superman have dealt with Zod?

Phantom zone? Deal with him before the problem escalated? Ask Jor-El what he could have done since he has dealt with Zod before?

Jor-El probably would have said kill him too, since the last time he fought Zod he died. I don't get why people keep saying he should have found another way to deal with him. You work with what the movie gives you, and their was no other way for him to deal with Zod. The Phantom Zone projector was destroyed, Kryptonite doesn't exist in this universe yet and Zod was gonna burn the earth. Plus you saw how killing him affected Superman, he screamed out in agony. This is something that will haunt Supes forever.

Would you want it as well if it was of Batman breaking his own hand while punching Superman? :)

  • Watch Wonder Woman kick some butt

Agreed

  • WW kicking butt

Hell yes, preferably first in a scene where Superman or Batman tell her to stay back and let them handle it only for her leap past them and demolish whatever it is.

  • Aftermath of Metropolis

Lex using it to his advantage is a good idea, but I don't think it should take up huge portions of the film.

  • BvS needs to be epic

Ah no, since Kryptonite doesn't exist yet it's just going to be a nut in a bat suit taking on the pinnacle of otherworldly might.

  • Superman as 'the man'

Yes... sadly it's going to be against the guy with the largest pair in comics, and thats still going to be hard to sell... that is if Affleck doesn't balls it up.

  • Product placement

Wasn't a problem for me, the only ones I noticed were the Wayne Enterprises and LexCorp brands (I can't even remember what phone Lois used) unlike the Marvel/Sony/Disney movies.
