Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - What We Want to See

Warner Bros. has big plans for the DC cinematic universe and we can't wait to see how it'll all be handled. Only time will tell what they have in store for us, but for now, we want to have some fun and share our own ideas for the movie!

In 2016, we'll finally get to see Batman and Superman share the big screen. The follow-up to Man of Steel will also include Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and probably Aquaman and Flash. Needless to say, we're all incredibly anxious to see how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is handled and, on March 25, 2016, director Zack Snyder will get to show us if the expansion of the DC cinematic universe lives up to the hype. It's a pretty long wait and we'll have plenty of other comic book movies and TV shows to enjoy until then, but we can't help but think about the hugely anticipated DC movie and share what we really want to see in it!

*Contains Man of Steel spoilers*

Watch Wonder Woman kick some butt

Whether you're optimistic or pessimistic about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the first time you heard the movie will include Wonder Woman was more than likely an exciting bit of news. Not only are we getting Batman and Superman, but we know Wonder Woman's present and she won't just be a quick cameo. Now, we all have our different opinions on Gal Gadot being cast as Diana and we have no idea how significant her role will be, but after Warner Bros' SDCC panel showed what she looks like in her signature attire -- sword, armor and all -- we better see her in action, too! Even if it's just one standout battle scene, it'll be thrilling to see Wonder Woman step up and prove why she's formidable on the big screen.

If I remember correctly, Snyder previously called her a very powerful character, so here's hoping he gets a chance to prove it. We have no idea how her new mythos will be handled, but asking for one memorable action scene with Diana kicking some serious butt really asking to much, is it?

The aftermath of the Metropolis battle

Love or loathe Man of Steel, many of us will agree it was jarring to jump from the end of the conflict with Zod to a somewhat comedic bit some time later in a totally different location. What went down in Metropolis was huge and we need to see some proper follow-up.

First and foremost, this is something Lex Luthor needs to take advantage of if he wants to turn the public against the Kryptonian. Seeing as he's, you know, Lex Luthor, that's something he'll obviously want to do. Sure, a majority of the damage was done by the World Engine, but if Kal-El wasn't on this planet and if he didn't turn against his fellow aliens, some of the people may think thousands of lives wouldn't have been lost in Metropolis (even though Zod was going to kill everyone anyway). Some will view Superman as a savoir and thank him for saving the planet from Zod, but others will blame Superman for the destruction and Luthor needs to be there to add fuel to the fire. On top of that, his Corporation studying Kryptonian technology means we can open the door to the genius discovering Superman's weaknesses. As we all know, this can eventually lead to Metallo, an armor suit of his own, and so much more. And, just like fans still argue about what happened with Zod, Luthor can use Superman killing Zod as more material against the hero. Will this powerful alien deem himself judge, jury and executioner when it comes to humanity's criminals? Obviously he won't, but Luthor can still spin it in a pretty effective way and make some of the public hate and fear Superman even more.

Speaking of Zod's neck getting snapped, we really need to see that receive some solid follow-up, too. Some of us like why it was done, others think it shouldn't have been done at all and another conclusion should have been reached. No matter how you feel about it, that's the path they chose and now we need to see them double-down on the decision and turn it into something positive for everyone. Superman was forced to kill what he believes to be the last person of his race ("he believes to be" because we had that Supergirl easter egg and it's unknown whether they'll actually follow through with that). He feels like an outsider on a planet full of billions of humans, and he chose those people over his own. Something that big has to take a toll on the hero and give him one heck of an epiphany. His first major challenge as Superman saved the world, but also had thousands of casualties and left his Kryptonian foe deceased. If anything, it should now motivate Clark into a "there's always another way" mentality. Seeing as this universe will now adapt to the existence of super powered beings, more "comic book-ish" elements will hopefully be put in place and allow for more alternatives in future conflicts. Only time shall tell, but Superman killing Zod is one of the most heavily discussed parts of the film and there's no way that has eluded the cast and crews' ears.

Batman vs. Superman needs to be epic

When news first broke that the next movie would feature Batman and Superman, we weren't sure if they'd follow through with the iconic fight scene from Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. I mean, how could you think Batman stands a chance after seeing Kal-El's physical displays in Man of Steel, right? But after SDCC's teaser showed Batman in armor, we NEED to see a jaw-dropping fight between these two happen.

Many of us suspected Batman won't trust Superman, he'll study the alien and then use his mind to test Clark and they'd eventually reach a truce, but that teaser makes it clear that it's go time and a big brawl is almost guaranteed to happen (if not, that would such a cruel tease). If you've seen The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (if not, go watch both of them), then you know this fight can translate very well and deliver some seriously cool material. Sure, part of us will be saying "HOW is Bruce okay?!" as it goes down, but as long as they make it clear Clark is holding back and they end as allies, it should be a thoroughly entertaining time. Here's hoping both characters get proper respect and they don't disregard innocents as they duke it out.

A more charismatic and confident Superman

Henry Cavill looks the part extremely well and there were a few bits in Man of Steel which gave him some good dialogue, but much of the movie was showing Clark Kent's internal conflict over his place in the world and he didn't have many opportunities to feel as confident and inspiring as many fans expected him to be. Now that Superman has faced his first big obstacle and saved the planet, it would be great to see his personality shine through with his words more than his physical presence. He's got the latter down -- we see plenty of that in MoS -- but it's time to give him more inspiring dialogue, especially if he's going to get into a conflict with the intellectual Bruce Wayne, face the brilliant Lex Luthor, and possibly form the Justice League. He's got the look and the posture, now let's get more of the charming and uplifting personality!

Less product placement, more worldbuilding

Look, we can all tolerate a moderate amount of product placement, but it becomes seriously distracting when stores and brands are suddenly a prominent point in various shots. We don't know where the line originated, but "The 'S' stands for Sears" is a good example of the absurd amount of product placement that was in MoS. Yes, they had a good amount of fan service with easter eggs, but if Waner Bros. is now building the hype for a Justice League movie, let's have less focus on getting some extra cash from big names and more easter eggs, yeah? Why will the Justice League potentially form or meet one another? Who's the big bad and will we see hints of their presence? How can they organically justify Aqauman, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and possibly the Flash existing in this universe? Man of Steel had various teasers here and there, but Justice League is going to follow this movie and we need to feel that buildup. It shouldn't overshadow or hinder the plot with Lex Luthor, but we need to feel the tension growing and finally get a feeling that DC has its own evergrowing cinematic universe and look forward with optimism and excitement.

I would say you shouldn't use the word "we," but I agree with all your points.

I agree with everything except the product placement. No more than Sony in Spider-Man or the Apple store in Winter soldier.

To be fair about the product placement snyder said he put those places there to make the world seem more real. And their is an ihop and a sears everywhere.....

Posted by JJ_Was_Here

I think people see the product placement as forced because we were watching a movie. But The Snyder wanted us to feel like this was happening in our world and our world has Sears. And our world has almost as many 7-11s as Starbucks. And I feel that IHOP would do better with more aliens crashing through the ceiling as you're enjoying a double stack. Breakfast AND a show.

@the_stegman: Well, Sony product placement in a movie made by a Sony-owned production studio is kinda inevitable at this point. I just expect it.

More neck breaking!!!

Posted by G_leno

We need all of what you said except a big smackdown between Supes and Bats. Not a single non-comic reader i know wants to see Batman holding his own against such a powerfull being, it would just be laughable seeing a guy who can demolish half a city by accident struggle vs Batman. Batman in film has been shown to be a good fighter, but not as having the god-like prep skills we here think he has. To the general population (which make up 90%+ of the viewers), I think it would come across as a total joke. Its not like we are talking Hulk v Thor here where one can tank the others hits, its a guy who can get torn apart faster than you can blink and cant hurt his opponent without the most over used and silly plot devise in comics.

Amen.

I am one of the lucky ones that didn't know the brands MoS was advertising so it didn't distract me.

It was still there and just as noticable as the random Sears or IHop in the background of MOS. It's like people turn a blind eye to other movies, but have it in MOS and suddenly, it's a big deal. Not that the author of THIS thread is making a big deal of it, but others say it "ruined" the movie for them...smh.

I forgot, I want another scene where the camera pans to Superman's eyes widening in fear as he realizes Batman's armor has a reinforced neck.

That's how the movie needs to end.

@sentryman555: the money they got didn't freaking hurt either!!

Posted by pingclang

They're giving us Aquaman and if him being there is organic, then the movie will please me. Though, would it be too much to ask for Martian Manhunter eventually?

Posted by i_dont_like_comics

@the_stegman: it helped that sony movies don't do a pan shot of a couple major american brands before the hero goes throught them.

Posted by micah

Aquaman better be treated seriously. I want him to uppercut Superman into the stratosphere, and lead an army of kaiju like sea creatures into battle, then see what all the haters about him being useless have to say.

Online
Posted by i_dont_like_comics

@micah: A. aquaman doesnt have that kind of strength. not even underwater. B. that would prove his uselessness. so high chances of both happening because it's snyder.

Posted by sentryman555

@i_dont_like_comics: lol true. I find scenes like spider-man 3, when spidey jumps in front of an american flag, more cringing though. It just looks cheesy imo.

I must be the only one who thinks that Zod's death didn't need any 'follow-up'.

(and I don't think it would lead to him 'always finding another way.' I don't think he'd view this action as a mistake. The point of that scene is that he's willing to do what needed to be done.)

Well in Throne of Atlantis he did send Supes flying into a battleship I believe, maybe if they did something along the lines of that. But how would leading kaiju like monsters into battle from the sea prove his uselessness. People are already going to be making fun of him, and telling him to get back into the water. So why not come back with with monsters and prove everyone wrong?

Maybe it's just me but I don't see what all the fuss was about with the product placement. Yeah I noticed it but it hardly bothered me considering I was more focused on watching Clark battle Zod and his group. Definitely excited to see how they do the other leaguers cameos though I can already maybe figure out how they'll play it

I'm really sick of the product placement complaints. Winter Soldier had an entire scene that took place in an Apple store, talking to an Apple store tech guy. Having a Sears in the background of a shot and having them crash through an IHOP doesn't even come close to that.

What I want to see (but won't obviously):

Ryan Gosling as Batman

Jaimie Alexander as Wonder Woman

Charlie Hunnam as Aquaman

No Cyborg (I like pre-new 52 JL more)

An older Lex Luthor that doesn't look like he's still in college

Less shoehorning of characters.

Yup.

Most of the people complaining about product placement were also fine with how Zod was dealt with...i.e. not aware of the numerous actual problems with the film.

Also, Clark doesn't need to be holding back in the fight since they will be introducing kryptonite.

Don't forget Lois Lane held her Nokia camera into the audience face numerous times, and 7-Eleven was destroyed.

All current plot rumors imply that everything from the "The aftermath of the Metropolis battle" section will be addressed. I've always felt that lot of people's complaints about MoS were intentional aspects of the story that were intended to be addressed in future sequels and it looks like that will be the case. I'll be interested to see how Batman will best Clark, seeing as in DKR he had the help of the nuke plus Green Arrow and Carrie Kelly. Perhaps this is where Wonder Woman will get her moment? Only time will tell, but as someone who was lucky enough to be in the Hall H seats as that teaser rolled, I'm certain it will be epic.

Out of the entire article, people are choosing to discuss a request for less product placement or having it at least not so prominent in the shots? Interesting.

Even though it's 99.9% unlikely, a shoutout to Arrow/Flash TV series would be cool. Even if it's just a reference to like the decimation of starling.

@rulerofthisuniverse:

Marvel does it = Funny and creative.

DC does it, especially if it is in Man of Steel = The worst thing ever.

Iron Man, Captain America and Batman all killed, but when Man of Steel does it and it is the most unimaginable thing ever.

I mean, Batman killed in Batman(1989), Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and you can't even find a comic panel where he's every killed before, but no one Bats an eye. Superman kills Zod, something he's done before in comics and everyone loses their mind.

Same goes for the destruction: Captain America UNLEASHES Hulk to cause havoc and it is funny and creative, Superman gets thrown into buildings and they're trying to make Superman into a jerk.

Captain America gave the order "Hulk, smash." And that was hilarious to everyone.

Man of Steel is the most unfairly persecuted comicbook movie ever. And I thought The Dark Knight Rises was unfairly persecuted.

I just have one request: can Superman not get the shaft in a story that involves him and Batman? That's probably too much to ask, I guess I want to see a more charismatic Superman.

We have Henry Cavill as Superman, arguably one of the most charismatic gents in Hollywood, I don't think it should be too much to ask of Snyder to make him a mixture of Man of Steel's brawler and have him save some folks.

I find it odd people chose to think it's a flaw in the film while ignoring other product placements in other cbms. Idk, maybe if people hated CAWS with a passion they would also point out how Cap was in an Apple store, driving a brand new Ford truck, etc..

I did enjoy reading the thread, though it does bug me when people bring up the product placement in MOS.

Things I'm mostly excited to see is the fight between Supes and Batman. See how much Clark character has changed, interactions between the Trinity. I want to see a really good chemistry between them. Last, I would like to see are easter eggs.

My wishlist (apart from the obvious/what we know):

1.Huge Batcave like the comic book version with Jason Todd's Robin outfit in a glass case.

2. Mention of Batman's rogues gallery.

3. Dick Grayson as Nightwing.

4. Wonder Woman using her bracelets to deflect bullets.

5. DC city references such as Star City, Keystone, Coast City.....

6. A Bruce Wayne fight scene.

7. Commissioner Gordon scene or reference.

8. Kryptonite

9. Bruce Wayne/Lex Luthor scene.

10. Lois Lane/Lex Luthor scene

Why do people think that guy wit the green socks is flash?

About the product placement I really couldn't care less about them I just laughed whenever sears or ihop got destroyed.

OMG Superguy1591 I totally agree everything Marvel does people go ape shit especially with the Hulk. When he was slamming Hulk I barely found that funny. Man of Steel had the BEST fight scenes and people complaining about him killing. probably him breaking zod neck will be the cause of him saying no killing . And did you see his new suit? I think thy going for the superman we want.

The is lining up to be a over hero saturated movie because of Marvel envy....

DC / WB is desperate, so desperate they are pulling this stunt of a movie without even a back ground of the current Batman, WW or Aquaman and then Lex is being introduced also? Sure lets toss some more Heroes in the mix, why not. Come the hell on, this is going to be a slap in the face to the fans. How much crap do you really think they can toss into a 2 hour movie?

I don't mind the product placement. It's whatever. Does a Sears in the background of a shot, really bother you? It's not like we're in Asgard. I'm sure somewhere on EARTH...there is a Sears.

And we've already seen what happens when Batman vs. Superman is done the right way in WAR. People...complained.

Posted by i_dont_like_comics

@superguy1591: this right here is the weakest defense this movie has. but the fans think it's the best. it's so weak it's vapor.

captain america kills. in ww2. that has always been shown. iron man not so much. the bad guy puts him in a bad position, he escapes and the plan backfires on the bad guy, killing him. batman killing is wrong. it's the core of his character. just because batman did it doesn't mean it's ok for supes, another character that doesn't kill, to do it. there are instances where bad writers write bad out of character stories. man of steel gets the undoubtedly deserved hate it gets for being so lazy and blatant about it. superman could've done something else but he chose the easy way out. the situation was also incredibly stupid.

difference with the hulk is: avengers shows the heroes getting people to safety, keeping the bad guys in a tight perimeter. the hulk shows up 20 min into the fight. there were no bystanders left by then so it was the best option let him go nuts on the bad guys, not the city.

hopeman didnt help anybody but his love interest, cuz he wants to get some later.

consider yourself and everybody with your mentality owned. for reference watch superman vs the elite & all-star superman for a real superman.
