BATMAN: EARTH ONE News Surfaces

Pre-ordered a couple of weeks ago.

@spiderbat87: Looks it to me; boots, color scheme, crotch area, shield, cape and neckline all look changed in ways that I have not really seen used where as Batman while a little different is just an amalgamation of past Elseworld Batman costumes, very little originality, this might as well be Alfred: Earth One since he is sporting a very interesting new look and I'm honestly way more interested in finding out about this Alfred then this ho-hum Batman that has probably been done to death in the past.

Cool!! Hope it turns out as good as supes. Alfred looks less of a humble butler and more of either a rogue or a cop!!

Art looks great,the premise and story will be garbage.

Gary Frank draws EVERY CHARACTER to look like Christopher Reeve.

geoff johns writing Batman? i love Batman but i hate geoff johns he doesn't understand Batman at all so, thanks but no thanks!

Geoff Johns writing Batman? The words i want to use aren't allowed, so I'll just say "oh no". Why would DC let a writer who obviously hates Batman write for him?

Why the hell is Geoff Johns writing this, I thought he hated Batman...

Although I agree with most saying Johns, one of my all time favorite writers, may not be the best choice to write Batman, he really knows how to impress. Secondly, I feel as though there has been so many Batman origins type books. At this point some seriously crazy stuff has to happen. Oh and Alfred being ripped: awesome.

@spiderbat87: Comparing those two pics the shield is more stylized, the boots have that extra rounded lip like pirate boots, Earth One supes has those square stitches over his inner thighs (no clue why) and more of the cape is attached to the shoulders in the front so not as much shoulder/neck is viewable. Outside of the costume the personalities were also very different, Earth One supes though is a lot more like the new 52 version though in a lot of these regards.

With Supes you can change the characters and he can still be Superman but with Batman his personality is pretty much set in stone or he wouldn't have the inclination to even be Batman since it is such a emotion-based character so this Earth One Batman will probably be exactly the same as we are used to, only difference being his age (which doesn't matter much since we've seen him young before).

Why are they referring to Kremlin from Ex Machina as Alfred? Weird...

I still think it is kinda early for making Alternate Earth comics in this Reboot.

There has been only 5 issues for the New 52 and I would say they shouldn't jump on to the Earth One untill , say , 10th issue and see how things are going.

It is important to check out their momentum from time to time and not throwing new books to the mix.

Aside from that, I think this design will be more ''action packed'' rather than the usual Batman style. Even Alfred has the badass look and a Tatoo ! It might take some time to get used to this style.

i think alfred looks a lot like allan quatermain :)

I guess it's going to be a great book...definitely be checking it out

If I buy it and it turns out to be awful, I'll never forgive myself.

Alfred does look like Sam Elliot from the Hulk, just with a goatie, stead of a mustache. Looks good, all of it, I like it.

To be honest, I'm a bit "meh" about this...

"Young Bruce Wayne's parents are killed... he hits the rails (as far as a rich kid does, anyway), then something pulls him up and he turns his anger on the criminals of Gotham (saving a woman or child, someone insulting his parents memory). He's inexperienced and gets his butt kicked, so Alfred teaches him some British army moves, some zen thinking and makes him a new costume to inspire fear in the hearts of the enemy... He goes out, tries it again and comes out on top this time (barely, he doesn't win by a huge margin and he has to continue his training). But on the last page... Criminals of Gotham beware of... The Batman." Blah blah blah.

Please don't let it happen like that. Not the same origin story, again, with a little twist to make it All New and Exciting! Geoff Johns stating that Bruce Wayne has "a very different ultimate goal in mind" gives me hope it'll go to new places.

Also looking at that artwork (which is pretty awesome) it doesn't look like Wayne Manor. So possibly Bruce Wayne's from the other side of the tracks? Not the rich kid? Or Alfred isn't the butler.

Mind you, I'm probably being grumpy today, so tomorrow it'll look awesome and when I read it I'll love it (maybe).

Even if it sucks, I'll still read it just to see *that* Alfred. Wow. Actually... replace "wow" with a "meow"...

In fact, I would be much more excited (after seeing that artwork) if they were announcing "Alfred: Earth One".

@Territorialhawk: you make a good point. the story of Batman is currently pretty damn solid. and it's not really a story you can change. i mean they basically did a few minor switches.

@Cakeman3000: Agreed though you know I read Earth One Superman and I have to admit it achieved what DC wanted it to achieve. It made people like Superman. I use to dread him and only liked seeing him animated. Now I can read Superman and not get bored so easily. Im looking forward to vol 2.
