BATMAN: EARTH ONE News Surfaces

DC Comics finally reveals some news regarding their upcoming BATMAN: EARTH ONE volume.

When DC Comics published SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE in 2010, it was a huge success. Yet, prior to the volume's release, DC had announced that they would also be publishing an OGN specifically focused on the "Dark Knight" titled BATMAN: EARTH ONE, as well. The volume which was originally scheduled to be published sometime in 2011, never was. In fact, many people questioned whether we would ever see the book's release at all -- until now.

Not much was known about the status of the release of the OGN until earlier today when DC revealed three unlettered preview pages depicting what appears to be a very young Bruce Wayne. Not much was known about the context of the volume, and what period in the Dark Knight's history would be the focus of the story, until now. The volume will be written by Geoff Johns who finally clued fans in on what the premise of the book will be. According to him, BATMAN: EARTH ONE will take the "Dark Knight" back to his roots, to the very beginning.

== TEASER ==
“Gary and I are tackling BATMAN from the beginning, before he knows what he’s doing and with a very different ultimate goal in mind,” said Johns. “He’s never left Gotham. And our Gotham and the people in it are very gray. Our heroes unlikely. Our villains hidden. Our story is only beginning with volume one.”

The book will be penciled by artist Gary Frank who has stated that the character is "not yet a superhero" in this re-telling of his origins and will focus on the time where becoming a superhero had not yet crossed Bruce's mind. How will he deal with the death of his parents this time? What changes will be made to the character? How will he decide that taking crime-fighting into his own hands is a viable solution? Up until now all we had really seen were the character designs for both Bruce and Alfred, and now, we have a little bit more.

What do you think? Did you read SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE? (Did you see our video discussion on it?) Are you looking forward to BATMAN: EARTH ONE? What other characters would you like to see receive 'Earth One' books?

Yaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssss about time, I cant wait. Here's hoping they do Wonder Woman next.

Edited by cattlebattle

I'm going to check this out

I'm still not crazy about the suits design though

If they're going to do this then at least make him look more strikingly unique. Something different. Not just make the batsuit look like slightly baggy pajamas.

That said, I'm not sure about the Sean Connery Alfred ;) Although there's no doubting the high standard of Gary Frank's art :)

Totally checking this out! I loved Superman: Earth One.

Alfred looks like J. Jonah Jameson's dad. 8 )

Finally some news about this.

hahaha Alfred finally looks as bad ass as he is!!

This is gonna be awesome!

Earth One: Wonder Woman; Flash; Aquaman; Martian Manhunter; Green Lantern; Justice League.

And then after all those make a Earth-One universe continuity similar to Marvels Ultimate Comics brand despite the fact we have the New 52

Well Kal's suit in Superman: Earth One looked exactly the same as the regular pre-Flashpoint one

...Alfred looks like such a badass. I approve.

EDIT: Oh my God, it's Sean Connery! Yes!

Alfred looks like Sam Elliot! I swear!

And Gary Frank's doing the art. Of course I shall pick this up!

That thing on batman's mask....looks so Arkham Asylum style

Man, I can't wait to read this. WHOO!-HOO! :D

It looks awesome!

This could be a pretty big departure from what has been done before... I'm interested to see what Johns does with a Batman story considering he doesn't seem to like the character much. I loved Superman Earth One, so I'm excited to read this.

Alfred looks badass!

@ArturoCalaKayVee I think that had been the original plan, and they were only going to do releases in the series in as OGNs.

Alfred just doesn't look like Alfred to me. He should have the thin mustache, not the bushy beard. And I don't approve of the underwear-less bat suit as well. He just looks, um... naked. It's weird.

It sounds like an interesting story though. I'll have to pick it up some time.

I am afraid. Sure, Geoff Johns is a good writer and I love Gary Frank's art but Johns' Batman is really not that great since he does not seem to really like the character, the very concept of Earth-One does not work and the previous installment was a mess.

Glad to finally hear something about this. Can't wait to finally read it.

The art looks pretty awesome! I really like the interpretation of Alfred.

Can't wait...

Agreed on every point. Disappointed about the Costume, if anything I thought they'd at least make it more similar to DCnU.

Looks good but I'm going to have problems to understand that the big old guy is Alfred :S

I totally LOVED Superman Earth One, I hope this will be as good as it.

..Not a big fan of Sam Elliot Alfred...That being said, I've always been interested in seeing more of Alfred's past as a British army medic/MI-6 agent. And I love stories about Batman's early years. We'll see where it goes.

@spiderbat87:

I think they more or less confirmed that one

Grant Morrisson's going to be the writer

That art is just impeccable.

This looks cool. I like the look of Alfred.

Posted by Bestostero

wow, Alfred looks great! lol

Not one bit interested, it's a sound premise but we've had batman origins done definitively and we've had them done recently (in film). Something just isnt striking me with this earth-one stuff, ultimates it ain't. I'm just not on board no matter which big writer/artist is on board

Posted by BatClaw89

love how this looks and i am looking forward to this(already purchased it on amazon). As long as is not like that garbage frank miller wrote. As long as people like kevin smith don't get to write Batman ill read anything Batman.

Posted by haydenclaireheroes

I liked Superman:Earth One and thought it was a great spin for Superman's character. So, I am sure Batman Year One will give us an entertaining story also.

Posted by jsphsmth

I like the concept of Bruce never leaving Gotham. That difference alone get me excited. The amazing art is a nice extra.

Posted by Or35ti

I will make an effort to pick this up! :D

Alfred looks like an aged Sean Connery. Perfect. xD

I LOVE the Earth One outfit. I always use it in Arkham City because it has no flipping underwear on the outside.

I read Superman earth one and I LOVED IT!! Soooo stoked for this :)

Posted by StarKiller809

Super excited about this.

I didn't read Superman Earth One but that's because I don't really care for Superman or the writer of the book. However, Batman is awesome and Geoff Johns is great. This is going to be an awesome read. Look forward to it.

I just use the Batman Inc. suit :P

As for this, not really sure seeing as it could be confusing for new readers who may mistake this for the current New 52 Batman's origin's. But I do think Alfred looks epic! xD

I liked Superman: Earth one, but I'm getting tired of their origins being retold again and again.

Agreed, they changed Superman for Earth One quite a bit, don't get why Batman doesn't get the same respect :/
