BATMAN: EARTH ONE News Surfaces

DC Comics finally reveals some news regarding their upcoming BATMAN: EARTH ONE volume.

When DC Comics published SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE in 2010, it was a huge success. Yet, prior to the volume's release, DC had announced that they would also be publishing an OGN specifically focused on the "Dark Knight" titled BATMAN: EARTH ONE, as well. The volume which was originally scheduled to be published sometime in 2011, never was. In fact, many people questioned whether we would ever see the book's release at all -- until now.

Not much was known about the status of the release of the OGN until earlier today when DC revealed three unlettered preview pages depicting what appears to be a very young Bruce Wayne. Not much was known about the context of the volume, and what period in the Dark Knight's history would be the focus of the story, until now. The volume will be written by Geoff Johns who finally clued fans in on what the premise of the book will be. According to him, BATMAN: EARTH ONE will take the "Dark Knight" back to his roots, to the very beginning.

“Gary and I are tackling BATMAN from the beginning, before he knows what he’s doing and with a very different ultimate goal in mind,” said Johns. “He’s never left Gotham. And our Gotham and the people in it are very gray. Our heroes unlikely. Our villains hidden. Our story is only beginning with volume one.”

The book will be penciled by artist Gary Frank who has stated that the character is "not yet a superhero" in this re-telling of his origins and will focus on the time where becoming a superhero had not yet crossed Bruce's mind. How will he deal with the death of his parents this time? What changes will be made to the character? How will he decide that taking crime-fighting into his own hands is a viable solution? Up until now all we had really seen were the character designs for both Bruce and Alfred, and now, we have a little bit more.

What do you think? Did you read SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE? (Did you see our video discussion on it?) Are you looking forward to BATMAN: EARTH ONE? What other characters would you like to see receive 'Earth One' books?
