'Batman Day' is Coming on July 23

To celebrate Batman's 75th Anniversary, DC Entertainment has some special plans.

Batman is turning 75 this year and looks pretty great for his age. To celebrate the Dark Knight's longevity, DC Entertainment has declaried July 23 as Batman Day.

In celebration of Batman’s 75th anniversary, DC Entertainment is partnering with thousands of comic book retailers and bookstores across the nation to celebrate “Batman Day” on Wednesday, July 23. As part of the festivities, fans who visit participating retailers receive a free, special edition of DETECTIVE COMICS #27, featuring a reimagining of Batman’s 1939 comic book debut, designed by Chip Kidd with a script by The New York Times #1 bestselling author Brad Meltzer.

In addition to the comic book, DC Entertainment is providing retailers access to an assortment of other collectibles to help in the celebration of “Batman Day” including a Batman 75th anniversary cape, bookmarks featuring essential Batman graphic novels and four Batman masks designed by comic book artist Ryan Sook spotlighting a variety of the character’s iconic looks from his 75-year history.

Masks include:

  • DETECTIVE COMICS #27: Batman’s first appearance, as drawn by Bob Kane

  • BATMAN ’66: inspired by the classic TV series starring Adam West

  • THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS: As drawn by Frank Miller

  • DC COMICS – THE NEW 52: As drawn by Greg Capullo

Fans who visit comic stores on “Batman Day” also have the opportunity to purchase ROBIN RISES: OMEGA #1, the first issue of red-hot new comic series from bestselling creators Peter J. Tomasi and Andy Kubert and GRAYSON # 1 by Tim Seely and Mikel Janin, which depicts the original Robin, Dick Grayson, in an all new monthly series in which the crime fighter turned super spy fights to clear his name.

Continuing the celebration, DC Entertainment is partnering with Random House to bring “Batman Day” to over 1,000 libraries across the U.S. on Saturday, July 26th.

On the digital front, the special edition of DETECTIVE COMICS #27 will also be available for free download on Wednesday, July 23nd at www.readdcentertainment.com and all digital platforms (Kindle, iBookstore, Nook, and Google Play).

Since Damian Wayne comes back to life in December, I wonder if DC will give Robin a 75 year anniversary? Or Wonder Woman? Or Aquaman? Or Jay Garrick? Or Alan Scott?

OH COME ON. Superman 75th birthday was last year and all we got was an awesome movie and animated short along with a comic done by Scott Snyder and Jim Lee. Not fair DC.

Probably not.
Maybe some mentions here and there but nothing remotely this big.

Fixed it for you.

Also not to mention that even tho that's Superman's birthday book, batman still plays a big role in it...

If your going by specific characters like Jay Garrick, then they should give Dick Grayson something special, not just any robin.

Dick does deserve something special.

Does anyone know if a trade of Batman Eternal is on it's way, I think it is once they reach issue 11-12, just want to be sure.

Well Damian does too, he was the most recent Robin and hopefully will be again after Robin Rises.

So Robin Rises is a series now? I thought it was supposed to be a one shot.

@rustyroy: I said it once and I'll say it again, Damien is better than the Robin role

You know I'm a Batman fanboy as much as the next guy ,but I think they should work to bring up the other members of the big 6 to this level.

Especially since a Justice League movie is coming.

Comic Vine ignored Superman's birthday as well, I thought they would've done something.

July 23rd, I shall light 75 candles around my room, turn out all of the lights, and meditate in a Batsuit for 12 hours to appreciate this character.

Superman's 75th: Blockbuster movie and an amazing series by Scott Snyder and Jim Lee.

Batman's 75th: "Batman Day," where you get crappy Batman masks.

Fanboys really can complain about ANYTHING.

WHAT is so special about the 75th year!?!?!

Besides the fact that he is 63 years older than you?

Superman's 75th: Blockbuster movie and an amazing series by Scott Snyder and Jim Lee.

Batman's 75th: "Batman Day," where you get crappy Batman masks.

Fanboys really can complain about ANYTHING.

People like free stuff more than stuff they have to pay for.

Just thinking that. Whacked logic!

@dud317: Make sure to name her Selina, Barbara, Vicki or Julie (the first Batman love interest in the comics) in honour of Batman!!

Awesome!

Sounds like a fun way for Batman fans to celebrate. Hope my local comic store takes part, if not I guess it'll just be another day of dressing up as Batman at home.

I am digging those masks, except 66'.

This is a great idea!!! I am a huge Batman fan and doing something like this gets younger generations into the comic scene. They need more things like this every year, comics are not as big as they were in the 50s 60s and 70s and things like Comic Book Day and now this are great ways to get new and young readers. My kids loved Comic Book Day and there excited about this just as much as I am.... Plus if they only give out one mask each it will give me a chance to own them all LMFAO THANKS KIDS!!!
