Babs & G-Man Discuss Dark X-Men #1

Is this issue worth picking up or is it just a cheap Utopia tie-in.

We're all getting into the Utopia storyline in X-Men and can't wait to see what will happen with the Dark X-Men.  With this three issue mini-series, do we learn anything?  Is this series worth getting?  Here's what we thought.

What do you think?  Do you care about these characters?  Would you rather have seen their back stories incorporated into the actual stories?  What do you think is up with Namor?  Are you looking forward to the next issue?

Thanks for reviewing this you guys.
I'll probably pick it up since its a 3 part thing. I'm excited to see what happens with Cloak and Dagger and even Michael Pointer. He peaks my interest for some reason after dealing with the death of most of the Alpha Flight. I've also been a huge fan of Daken since 'Wolverine: Origins'.
So thanks again.

Edit: I didn't pick it up. I got 'X-Men Legacy' #226. It ties in to Utopia and + it has Gambit. Really good comic for 2.99. I really liked it.

I think Norman sent the Sentry to kill Namor's people (could be wrong about that)

he did...the atlantians attacked san fransico or someplace close to it....Norman asked Namor to do something about it but he refused so he sent Sentry to deal with it

Wow Babs you really have the hots for Namor. He kinda makes or breaks a book for you huh? But I dont think Anyone likes dark beast or Mimic they shouldn't be in any main books

Posted by No_Name_

So the big question is, why would Namor side (and take orders) from a guy like Norman knowing that he is responsible for what happened to his people? Hmmmm

Posted by Citizen 14
@Babs:
Thats what I was thinking. The only answer that pops into my head is, like you said, Emma.
Posted by The Messanger

Namor's a cool character, and for mimic I haven't really read any stuff with him in it. I'm just wondering why you guys don't like him that much. If you could give me your input that be great.

The sound wasn't great this time, a bit difficult to hear anything with clarity.  I did however catch "Jesus is cool".
 WHO drew  Namor in such a way?? (the scene where he's sitting down  and talking?)   Seriously did the artist even TRY to render him correctly? Ugh.
G-Man, don't " feel bad" for giving a comic a low rating!  This helps readers decide whether or not a comic is worth the scratch and that's part of why we watch and read the reviews!

he wasn't resposible...the whole thing with Atlantis being destroyed happened awhile ago but in Dark Avengers #6 is when the Atlantian terrorist attack San Fransico...Namor doesn't really take sides with either of them but Norman wanted Namor to go on tv and denounce the terrorist and then lead a team in to kill them all except one that they would use as a scapegoat for the attack...Namor didn't like that idea and basically put Norman in his place and left the meeting...So Norman decides to send the Sentry to do it that's basically it

Mimic not that bad he just need to ditch his current power set, the powers of the original 5 was cool back then, but now there so many new powers out there he can be so much more powerful, and he need to start by ditching the angel wings(lame), and get Namor's power that would be sick.

Posted by The_Martian

I only care about Namor, Clock, and Dagger. The rest of the Dark X-Men suck lol

Posted by Grendel
@Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin :

Dark Beast is the only reason I'm touching Utopia. Shame on G-man for not liking him.
Posted by The Psyentist

Yeah, the only people I care about in the Dark X-men is Namor and Emma Frost.

Hahaha...shower scene with Namor, and he fights in the nude!! MANLINESS!! Haha. Awesome.

This issue was a ripoff. I paid $4 for 10 pages of an actual story and an origin story. The ending with Dark Beast was a waste of time and just explained the obvious.

Sentry killed a bunch of Alantians under Normans command in Dark Avengers.

Posted by King Quisling

Oh and finish Omega Flight. That series was highly under rated.

@Babs
..honestly,Namor has never been very smart.You would think a King would have to be but he's not.I don't even know why they let him in the Illuminati,he had to be the least intelligent person in the room.

lol *some beefcake for the ladies.* Probably not gonna pick it up. I'll look through it in the store but if it doesn't hold my interest probably won't get it. It would be interesting if Namor is being manipulated by Emma. I have a weakness for blondes myself.

@Vance Astro:

Namor, and Atlantis in general, still follows the old school way of the strongest warrior rules the empire. And while Namor is more likely to be rash and headstrong, his empire consists of almost 70% of the planet. That made him too important not to be invited into the Illuminati or this "Dark Cabal" that he's in now.
Posted by Korg

It's weird, I couldn't care less about Namor (love his attitude, but ultimately he never does anything), but I'm looking forward to seeing more of Mimic and Dark Beast. Dark Beast is a good deal more intelligent, and a better manipulator than Osborn, so it will be interesting to see what his agenda is. Mimic is a great character idea that was badly squandered until Exiles rolled around.

Then he would have to deal with Sentry/The Void, and possibly Ares.

Actually, history is littered with kings who were not that smart.  Namor however, doesn't fall into that category.  He was smart enough to know you don't shoot the Hulk out into space and that the Illuminati was a bad idea.  He's also survived and been responsible for his people for longer than any of the Illuminati have been alive.  Namor is hot tempered, arrogant and spoiled, none of which have anything to do with intelligence ...though at times may interfere in the exercise of the gray matter. :)

Yes,Namor does fall into that category.There has never been a time that I respected Namor's intellect.I honestly don't think he's even smarter than Spider-Man.His intellect is average as far as i'm concerned.No matter what the Illuminati did with the Hulk it would have been a bad idea.Namor acts as if he had a better idea.Also,I don't see how being responsible for your people makes you that smart.Namor being responsible for his people long before any of the Illuminati was born doesn't mean anything they have all already prove their intellect.They are great scientists,inventors,strategists,etc. Namor is just some douchebag they let in the group because he's the only person who can make decisions for Atlantis.

What I really liked about it was Namor coming to accept himself as a mutant and wanting to protect more of his own kind, the mutants to in some way make up for his failures with the Atlantians. After it's all said and done I really hope Namor has more involvement with the X-men in the future.

It's also been pretty much confirmed Emma has nothing to do with Namor joining the Dark x-men as Osborne had pointed out, he wants to protect mutants who he is becoming to realise are also his people, so he volunteered.

i find it quite disturbing that norman just stands there and watches Namor in the shower ;s

I'm sorry, choosing the WORST option out of bad choices, just isn't the mark of stunning intellect to me.  NOT sending Hulk into space, which was Namor's better idea, would at least have prevented the destruction of parts of Skaar, Attilan on the moon, NYC and Jersey.  There wasn't a minimum IQ requirement for being asked into Marvel's Illuminati -- it was all about leaders and representing a segment of super-powered folks.  Now, I happen to think leading / being responsible for a large group of people for 70 years requires some above average smarts, but obviously, you don't.  And BTW, Black Bolt isn't any of those things either, and the only 'strategist' with field experience in that group is Namor.

I get that you don't like Namor, and plenty of people don't.  But hate him for what he is, not what he isn't.  No, he isn't a genius science geek, but that's not the whole measure of intelligence.  Namor's outsmarted both Stark and Richards before.  And FYI, Peter Parker is a scientist in his own right, or at least he was back when I was reading him.

i have a theory that the dark reign is gonna come down to spiderman vs norman, i saw the look in his eyes when he saw fraklin richards in that spider man mask that old obsession is still there i could be wrong though.

I'm looking forward to Namor finding out that Emma has been playing him, and Sebastian Shaw is still alive, no one makes a fool of the King of former Atlantis, Imperious Rex!

I think someone has a crush on Namor. ;)

Anyway, I love these discussions, love em! Keep em coming!

Seriously, what was that review?

I mean, okay, this could be argued as a money making cash in from Marvel, but so what? Let's give the team a try!

So, like G-Man said,  the purpose of this mini was to give a little but of backstory as to why and how the Dark X-Men came to be.

Did it do what it said on the tin? YES!

Did it reveal all? No.

Obviously there is more going on with Namor than what we saw in his story, so don't just take it as Namor acting like a whipped dog.  Oh and as for Osborn killing his people? Osborn ordered The Sentry to kill Atlantean
TERRORIST'S!

So, yeah, he'd feel a little pissed, but the main reason he was pissed at Osborn in Dark Avengers #6 was because of the tone Osborn was using with him.

Secondly the Mimic (who by the way is my favourite Marvel character and has been since I was a wee boy) is EMO???  The guy has a bipolar disorder, give him a break! How else is a guy who crawles out the grave on a regular basis and also has a bipolar disorder meant to act!? *Sigh*

I could go on and on about this but I need to bite my tounge until it bleeds.

Thank you.
