Awesome Toy Picks: Spider-Man Sixth Scale Figure from Hot Toys

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. We have good news for Spider-Man fans. We're going to look at the Sixth Scale figure from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.

Sure, the movie had some problems. Some liked it and others did not. While the figure does have some characteristics from the movie version, it's still basically a Spider-Man sixth scale figure.

As you would expect, he comes with a bunch of accessories. There are some slight differences due to his costume design. He does have real stretchy cloth clothing that makes it more realistic than the average/simple action figure. You'll notice he can easily stand on his own. He does come with a stand to assist in different poses but you can also pose him without it. He has some pretty crazy articulation. This is to help put him in all those crazy Spider-Man poses.

You can see he looks a little slim. That's how he should look. Over the years, some artists started making Spidey a little beefier. You'll also notice that depending on how you position him, sometimes his costume bunches up or shows lines and that's one of the things I love. It's like he's really wearing a costume. It adds to the realism rather than have a perfectly molded look.

He has a bunch of different hands which we'll look at more closely in a sec. There are also a couple different types of webbing you can add in to give him some thwipping action.

Basically you just shove the piece of webbing underneath his web-shooters.

One has the just-shot look while the other type of webbing is to simulate web-swinging.

You can also see how the costume bunches up a little around his stomach since he's bent a little.

Obviously I held him up with my hand by his left leg. You can use the stand to display him in a swinging position.

The pole that holds him up can be bent so you can have it hold him at different angles. It is a little big and the black clamp might be a little obvious but you can still put him in cool poses.

He has the treads on the bottom of his feet, like in the movie. It's a little more practical than just running around in socks.

With some of the hands, you can try to put him in a more crawling-type position.

Of course, with the webbing, you might just want him standing, ready to web up the bad guys.

The back of the costume does have a spider-symbol as well. It's the version from the movie, of course.

One of the accessories he comes with is a backpack. He has to put his street clothes somewhere.

And you can try to put him in a wall-crawling position.

The other accessories he comes with are pretty interesting.

He comes with a hat, a scarf, a vest, and a megaphone. Why not? You've seen the movie, right?

You've probably noticed the different hands. With most Hot Toys figures, you simply pull them off and swap in a different molded hand. You can't do that with this figure since the hand is attached through the costume. But you could probably see a line going through his hands.

There is actually a magnet in his hands. The different hands are basically half a hand each. You just slide the two tiny pegs into place and the magnets keep them together. I did have some hands that didn't fit perfectly. Using a tiny bit of force, you can get the seams to line up.

You have plenty of hands to choose from.

As for the stand, it has a pretty big base. You'll want the bigger base so you can move and position him differently. The bigger base gives more balance and prevents it from tippy over if the main pole is bent off to one side. It also has the Amazing Spider-Man logo on it and is engraved.

It's a pretty cool Spider-Man figure. I could see some being a little turned off because of the differences in the movie version compared to the comic one. But it's pretty great having all the articulation, hands, and accessories.

The figure is available now through Sideshow Collectibles. You can order it here:

The figure will cost you $229.99 and there is a payment plan available. This is a pretty typical price for these high end collectible figures. If you're a serious Sixth Scale figure collector, the price is what you'd expect.

Because of his slimmer nature, I did feel a little nervous at times moving his arms and hands around. It feels a little delicate but there were times I had to get a little forceful with no damage occurring. I did have a tiny bit of difficulty putting a web under his left web-shooter but it looks to be just a minor problem. You'll also want to be careful not to rub the webbing on his costume too much and of course you don't want the eyes to get scratched. And do not try to remove his head.

I definitely prefer this version to the one from the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. That one just felt like it had too much blue or something.

Let us know what you thought of this figure. If you're a Spider-Man fan, you should have a sixth scale figure in your collection.
