Awesome Toy Picks: Marvel Select Ant-Man

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. Ant-Man is still in theaters and we just got our hands on the latest Marvel Select version of Scott Lang.

Just like other Marvel Select figures, this comes in a big package. There's info on the back telling you what you probably already know about Ant-Man along with some art on the side.

Marvel Select figures come in these larger packages because they often include a base or background to display your figure. Sadly, this figure does not include one. But because it's Ant-Man, he'll fit right in where you decide to put him on display.

He does come with a smaller version of himself along with some interchangeable hands.

This figure was actually sculpted by Gentle Giants Studio. I wasn't aware of that until seeing the back of the package. It's the movie version of Ant-Man obviously. What I like about the Marvel Select figures is there's a nice amount of detail. The helmet has the design from the movie, as you would expect.

There's a lot going on with the costume in the movie. It's not the sleekest design and that's part of the charm. It does look like something that was pieced together for use rather than trying to be a symbol for the people.

Here you can see one of the other hands.

The belt looks a little plain. There's not really much detail that could go there but, to me, it sort of stood out in the back without having any edge paint detail. But this is a minor thing overall.

The front of the belt does offer just a tiny bit more detail with the dial on the buckle.

The calves on the figure look like their nicely protected and the little coloring in the back is a nice touch rather than the boots being completely black.

The wrists look well protected and detailed as well. My figure had a tiny bit of a paint mishap but perhaps I'll try fixing it later.

Another thing I like about the Marvel Select figures is they don't have a ton of articulation. There is enough so you can put the figure in different poses and the extra hands adds to it. Here's the third set of hands.

We did recently look at the Marvel Legends version of Ant-Man. You can see the differences here.

The Marvel Select version feels a little more solid. It was a lot easier to get to stand. The Marvel Legend figure feels like it has looser joints even though I just got the figure not that long ago. It took a lot of minor adjusting to get his legs and feet in the right position to stand.

The addition of the smaller Ant-Man is a nice touch. The Marvel Legends had one as well. It just drives home the point that this is a character that shrinks down.

The figure retails for about $25. There was a Disney Store exclusive version with Paul Rudd's head. With this figure, you can display him next to your other Marvel Cinematic Universe Marvel Select figures. Or you can just set up next to whatever you have lying around the house.
