Awesome Toy Picks: LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy--Starblaster Showdown

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. With Guardians of the Galaxy coming to theaters in August, there's already been a large number of merchandise that's been released (and currently waiting to be featured here). This week, we're looking at the LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy--Starblaster Showdown set.

The set contains 196 pieces and retails for $19.99. You can find it in stores or order directly from LEGO.com. You get two vehicles and three figures: Star-Lord, a Nova Officer, and a Sakaaran.

The first vehicle is pretty small and apparently belongs to the Sakaaran.

The two wings on the side can move around. Let's just assume the positions depend on whether it's in flight or attack mode, etc.

The set also comes with the orb seen in the trailers. Apparently this is a powerful orb that Ronan is interested in. According to the official synopsis of the movie, Star-Lord discovers how powerful the orb is and the threat it poses to the cosmos. That means he's going to want to try to get it as well.

As you can see, Star-Lord comes with his two blasters, mask, and rocket boots. The mask is removable and he has two different faces, which will be seen below.

Looks like the Sakaaran somehow got the drop on Peter Quill. He's not too happy. The orb is about to be taken and that's not a good thing.

While it looks like the Sakaaran is getting away with the orb, let's not forget that there is another figure and vehicle that comes with this set.

The back part of the ship opens and closes for different modes of flight. There's also a couple missiles on the bottom that just might come in handy here.

The set comes with a "Nova officer." He looks a little similar to the members of the Nova Corps we're familiar with. We've seen from the trailers that this is what their uniforms will look like. He comes with two different faces and a couple pairs of handcuffs.

As the Nova officer takes the Sakaaran away, what happened to the orb?

This is all going according to Star-Lord's plan. The Nova officer is busy and he's able to take the orb to safety.

Looks like the fate of the universe lies in Star-Lord's hands.

For twenty dollars, it's a pretty cool set. The smaller ship isn't too extraordinary but the Nova Corps ship is. Plus getting Star-Lord and the officer is a big reason to pick this up.

This is just one of the Guardians of the Galaxy sets available. There's a good chance you just might see more Guardians-related items coming up. Let us know what you thought about this set and if you plan on buying it. That is, if you haven't picked it up already.
