Awesome Toy Picks: LEGO Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. This week we discovered some new LEGO sets. We decided to pick up the LEGO Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas set.

The set contains 347 pieces including 6 figures with a retail price of $49.99. You can find it online or in stores.

One piece that your LEGO collection has been missing is a banana deliveryman and truck.

Too bad Gorilla Grodd saw it and is hungry.

The truck is built so Grodd (or anyone hungry for bananas) can smash it in the middle. There's also a crate on the back to carry those delicious-looking LEGO bananas.

It's a good thing Flash is in this set. He has some experience dealing with Gorilla Grodd.

Unfortunately for Flash, Captain Cold is also in this set. He also has his cold-gun. It's definitely going to be a slippery situation. You would think Flash, with his lightning reflexes would see Captain Cold suddenly appear. But there is a giant talking gorilla eating bananas to distract him.

So now we have Gorilla Grodd and Captain Cold causing mischief. But chances are, Cold will want to check out where Flash ended up. (That means he's gone from this story for now). For the poor banana deliveryman, there is Wonder Woman in this set and her Invisible Jet.

There are a couple blue missiles that can be fired from the jet. Is it totally invisible? No. But it looks better than this earlier version I "made."

Wonder Woman has targeted Grodd. But it looks like he might have something up his sleeve.

Let's just pretend these are really special bananas. Why else would Grodd go bananas over them?

You can see Wonder Woman comes with her sword. She's about to slice and dice that gorilla. Of course Grodd isn't just going to stand there and let her do it.

Is this the end of Wonder Woman? Heck no. Stay tuned.

Because Batman's in this set, part of his contract insists he appears heroic. He has a giant LEGO mecha-suit.

The arms and legs move on the 'suit.' The left arm has a regular hand and the right has a canon with a net that can be tucked inside. You can push the button on the back to make it "shoot" out.

Looks like Grodd has been captured, right? But is that net enough to hold him? And what happened to Wonder Woman?

She smashed her way out of the wrecked banana delivery truck and poked Grodd in the butt. That will make him cooperate. Oh yeah, and Flash is back too. He managed to defeat Captain Cold...off camera. We ran out of room so we couldn't include that battle...

Overall, it's a cool set. You get a lot of figures. That's usually a big selling point in these sets. You likely already have a bunch of LEGO Batman figures but he does appear to have a more New 52 look to him. There's been a Wonder Woman released before (we featured that set HERE). That figure had the more traditional costume compared to the New 52 version here.

The Invisible Jet is pretty cool, even if it's not completely invisible. The mecha-suit is alright. It's nice to see a different vehicle for Batman instead of another plane or Batmobile. Grodd was unexpected and Captain Cold in LEGO form is really cool (ugh, no pun intended). As mentioned, it's fifty bucks. You can order from Amazon or wherever you buy your LEGO sets.

Oh, and remember when we did the Mystery Art Challenge at NYCC last October with the Flash?
