Awesome Toy Picks: LEGO Brainiac Attacks

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. We're seeing several new comic book LEGO sets released right now. With the recent revelation of the Supergirl costume for her upcoming show, we thought we'd look at the LEGO Brainiac Attacks set.

The retail price on this set is $24.99. It's a pretty nice set even though it only has 179 pieces. That means it's a pretty quick and easy build. Sometimes the LEGO sets have weird vehicles or accessories but this one is perfect considering the theme. You also get some great mini-figures.

With Superman, Supergirl, and Martian Manhunter, you know your LEGO environment will be well protected. You'll also be able to see in some of the pics that they have a new cape. It's more cloth-like but still has some firmness to it.

You'll need this heroes when Brainiac attacks in his vehicle.

His ship looks cool. The green has a nice shine to it and you can pretend he has some Kryptonite to attack the Kryptonians. There's the gun on the side and a missile on the other side. The spidery legs look good as well.

Brainiac only comes with one face--evil/angry face. I guess that's all he need.

The overall design of the vehicle is nice. It actually looks like something he could have in the comics and not just made up for a LEGO set.

If Superman comes to attack, let's just say there's a Kryptonite missile with his name on it. It's also really cool this version of Superman is the pre-New 52 version with the red shorts. Superman comes with two faces--stern and angry.

With Superman taken out like that, you know his protective little cousin isn't going to take this too lightly. She also comes with two faces.

Here you can get a better look at her cape. Brainiac is getting a good look at it as well.

Here's where we can see Kara take out her anger against Brainiac. She did spend some time as a Red Lantern in the New 52. Remember, he was responsible for taking the city of Kandor and shrinking it down and putting it in a bottle. Sure he might have saved it from the destruction of Krypton but let's not focus on that angle.

You can see how angry Supergirl is. We should probably make sure she doesn't do anything she might regret, right?

Thankfully Supergirl has some friends to calm her down. And it looks like Superman will be okay.

Martian Manhunter will try to telepathically persuade Brainiac not to be such a jerk. But that probably won't work.

Overall, it's a nice set. I'd highly recommend picking it up if you come across it. There's not a lot of pieces, but that means it's easy to build. Getting four figures is a great thing.

Let us know what you think of this set or if you already have it. We'll take a look at another collectible next time.
