Awesome Toy Picks: LEGO Back to the Future

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we check out a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of its package. You might be aware of the fact that we really really like LEGO around here. Back to the Future is also a huge favorite. Before you ask why we have Back to the Future here, there was a comic based on the animated series as well as the recent BACK TO BACK TO THE FUTURE comic (and you can find out more information about that HERE).

The good news is there is now a Back to the Future LEGO set!

Looking at this, you can imagine how cool this set will be. I mean, you get Marty McFly, Doc Brown and the DeLorean. It turns out, there's actually a little more to this set. This isn't just a LEGO set for the first movie. It's actually for all three movies.

That's right. With some minor tweaks, you have your choice of which version of the DeLorean you want.

There's only 401 pieces. What makes this a little more...challenging is the separate bags aren't numbered like they usually are. That means all the pieces are spread throughout the bags. It's always easier to sort the pieces but it's quite a bit to sort.

As you can see, the instruction booklet is a little thicker than the normal one. There's a some history and info. on the trilogy.

Let's take a look at the set.

The doors open just like they're supposed to. Some of the design was a little tricky but it does work.

Of course it wouldn't be Doc Brown's DeLorean if it didn't have the Flux Capacitor.

Looking at the back, you can see they captured the look of the DeLorean's rear. Having Doc's license plate was another nice touch.

Now you might be screaming at your computer screen, "January 28, 1985?!? That's not a date that Marty or Doc traveled to!" That's actually the date the LEGO brick we all know was patented. Pretty clever, huh?

I thought about getting some lighter fluid and a match in order to simulate the car venturing through time. But, safety first and all. I didn't want to encourage anyone to attempt it at home. Then I thought of searching through my other sets to get a bunch of yellow and orange LEGO pieces but, you know. So just pretend.

Look! Doc's back from the Future (he must have dropped his funky shades).

It might not look too different but look closely.

You can add a Mr. Fusion to the back. No more LEGO plutonium needed.

There's also a new license plate for the back.

(Uhm, just pretend that the back bumper isn't off a bit when I reattached it).

Now that LEGO Doc Brown has gone to the future, we know where they're going, they don't need [LEGO] roads.

You can rotate the tires for when it hovers. You can also swap the tires out with some red rims, I guess to give it a more propulsion effect. And you're eyes are not deceiving you. The car is above the ground.

There's a couple clear pieces you can put underneath to simulate the floating effect.

What about the third movie? There is another minor tweak you can make to the DeLorean.

By just removing one piece, you can upgrade the car for when they were back in the Wild West.

That's about it for this week. It's a really cool set. It may not have a whole lot to it but, it's Back to the Future. That's all you need. It's too bad Einstein or Biff or the others weren't included. I can't imagine other sets coming anytime soon. Am I the only one that would want a Clock Tower (court house)? There was some talk in Doc's train and others (check out the possibilities HERE).

"Hey McFly you bojo! Those boards don't work on water!"
