Each week we like to track down some sort of cool comic book toy or collectible, rip open the box (actually open it very carefully) and take a close look at what's inside. Last month we got to check out the New 52 Justice League Batman action figure (that only came with a case because it was sent to us directly from DC Collectibles). This month Aquaman went on sale so of course I had to get my hands on him.
The packaging is similar to what Batman's would be like, just in a different color. It's a simple and elegant design that mimics the 'peeling' look of the new DC logo.
This will be one where deciding whether you'll open it or leave it in the package could be tough. The box is pretty cool looking. It's almost a bold statement with the color and silhouette of Aquaman.
For all the jokes Aquaman gets, there must be a reason why DC Collectibles decided to make him the second released figure in the line. And of course if you're reading the current AQUAMAN comic, you know he is a pretty cool character.
The back shows who's coming up next.
The Flash and a Parademon are listed as coming this month but DC's website says they're due later. I'll try to get a firm answer on that.
My box was a little bent in shipping. Since I planned on opening it, it didn't really matter. Toys should be opened after, right? Let the toys fulfill their purpose in life. They were meant to be opened and displayed or played with.
Speaking of opening, let's take a look at how he stands. These figures do not come with a display stand as the preview Batman figure we received did. But just like Batman, Aquaman doesn't need a display stand.
Yeah, no matter how cool he looks as an action figure and even if he comes with an actual chain, of course Batman won't give him the respect he deserves.
I debated on that last picture. He's supposed to be riding the dolphin as transportation. It might look like something else but get your minds out of the gutter. Clearly he has his pants on and we all know his pants doesn't have a zipper on them.
These next were at the front of the CBSi building. There's this little fountain type thing but unfortunately the water didn't really show up too well.
That last one was another sort awkward pose. It looked much better knowing he was sitting in a very shallow bit of water. Poor Aquaman...
That's it for this week. You can order this figure directly from DC Collectibles by clicking here. You can bet you'll be seeing others in this line as soon as I order them and they're released.
