Awesome Toy Picks: John Blake and Bat-Signal Sixth Scale Figure from Hot Toys

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. This week we're cranking things up a little and taking a look at the John Blake and Bat-Signal Sixth Scale figure from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles.

Pre-ordering info can be found HERE.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt played Gotham City Police Department officer John Blake in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. Besides just coming with the sixth scale figure, this set includes a working Bat-Signal from the movie as well.

Check out our video unboxing and hands on with the figure and Bat-Signal below.

If you haven't watched the video just yet, opening the package gives you a look at some more graphics. Hot Toys always does a great job with the packaging.

Once you remove this piece, it's almost a little intimidating. These figures have so many options with the multiple hands and accessories.

The figure is impressive. They've captured Joseph Gordon-Levitt's likeness pretty well. The Bat-Signal looks solid but isn't too heavy so you won't have to be too concerned over the weight sitting on a display shelf.

Of course there is a stand for the figure. One nice thing about these Hot Toys figures is their ability to stand on their own. The stands, obviously, prevent it from falling over when on display. You do not want to risk any damage to the figure.

They took the time to put in as much detail in the jacket as possible. You can see the stitching, badges, zippers, buttons, and everything. You can take the jacket off. I didn't attempt this because I figured it'd be a pain to try to get back on.

If you watched the video already, you saw that some of the buttons are sort of glued on. One of the snaps on his wrist fell off when I removed the hand. It can be glued on but it's really small.

You can see above there's a radio that clips to his shoulder. The cord is kind of springy like a real one and is attached to the radio that clips onto his belt.

The pouch next to it holds handcuffs. Closing the flap is a little tricky. You have to really push down but you also want to be careful.

The handcuffs to do open like regular ones.

Next to the handcuffs you can put the flashlight. You can have him hold it in one of his hands or have it hang off the belt. You can also see the holster for his gun.

On the front side of the belt, there's a couple pouches for extra ammo clips. They don't fit into the gun but the detail is nice. It looks like there's actually bullets inside.

His shoes look good. He's also wearing black socks. I didn't take a pic of it but you can see them in the video.

There is also a watch he can wear. You just have to remove his hand and slide it on.

What about the Bat-Signal?

As mentioned, it's pretty solid. It almost looks a little weathered. It also looks like it has a power switch off to the side.

The Bat-Signal does rotate. You can move it completely around as well as up and down. Here's a look at the back.

You can turn on the signal manually or use a remote that comes with it. The battery for the remote was included. The batteries for the signal were not and weren't supposed to. Just be aware you'll want some AA batteries if you order this.

The real question is, how well does the signal work? How bright is that tiny little light bulb? I did take it into a dark room and tried to take a pic of it.

Overall, it's a cool set. There's been a few figures from the Christopher Nolan Batman films. We have previously looked at Batman and his armory and the Joker (Bank Robber version). This is a way to add to those if you have them plus you can get a working Bat-Signal.

How do get this? How much is it? When does it come out?

You can pre-order it here: http://bit.ly/GetHTJohnBlake

The cost is $279.99 and it's scheduled to start shipping in August. Obviously these figures are of a collectible nature and not for everyone. If you are looking to add to your Nolan/Batman collection, this is a great addition with some pretty insane detail.

The articulation is exactly what you expect. The figure can be put in a variety of poses. You have a bunch of different hands you can switch out along with the choice of accessories you use.
