Awesome Toy Picks: Human Rocket Nova

A cool collectible you'll want to add to your collection.

Each week we like to check out a comic book collectible and see how cool it really is. That means, of course, removing it from the package. This week's pick is a little odd. There's a line of figures from the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. It appears the series consists of three different Spider-Mans as well as this one, "Human Rocket" Nova.

It's odd that the one other figure is Nova, but of course I'm thrilled about that fact. Because it's based on the animated series, this is supposed to be Sam Alexander. Looking at the figure, he doesn't really look like the young teenager. That means you can either accept it as Sam or pretend it's Richard Rider.

You can see it comes with a disc shooter. Even my daughter was confused when she saw it. She asked, "Why does he come with that?"

Either way, it's still cool looking.

Looking at the back, it does appear that the painting might be off a tad. I honestly didn't notice it when taking the pictures. It was when posting them here I noticed it.

You can see there isn't a lot of articulation. This isn't really a problem for me. Sometimes when there is too much, or even just a normal amount, all the seams take away from the sculpt and design of the figure.

It's a little odd that you can't even bend his arms but he does have some interesting and funky leg articulation, as you can see in the image above.

Now about that disc shooter...

It is pretty big. It clips onto his arm. Surprisingly, Nova can still stand on his own with the shooter attached.

It's a simple shooter. You just squeeze the sides and the disc flies.

It doesn't fly very far. The disc is thick and heavy. But realistically, you won't be buying this figure for the set. It's just unfortunate that the disc and shooter will add a tiny cost to the figure, or at least a justification to raise the price a tad.

Doing a quick search on Amazon, it's surprising to see them selling for over $20. I think I paid $10 or $11 at Target. It could be a question of availability. Seems like this figure sort of snuck up on us.

This figure's lack of articulation may be a turn off for some but it gives the figure a better look. It's a matter of what you want out of your action figures. It doesn't quite look like the teenage Sam Alexander but if you're a Nova fan, you'll want to track down this figure.
