It's time to check out some cool action figures. Each week we highlight some new items we've found in the toy aisles at the local store as well as some older, sometimes more collectible, items you might have to search online in order to find. Toy packages are open and the toys are analyzed not just on their appearance but also in their quality.
Our 'new' item of the week is a box set from the Marvel Universe line. I found this at Toys 'R Us. It's the Future Foundation...and H.E.R.B.I.E.
There has been separate figures for some of the members and there was even a box set of them in their Fantastic Four outfits. In fact, you can see what they look like on the back of the packaging.
I'm a little torn with the Marvel Universe line. There are some cool figures. It's great having such a wide variety of characters made. I haven't purchased too many, just the occasional cool looking figure, like Moon Knight or Winter Soldier. Sometimes they have pretty cool molding but other times they end up looking a little weird. What's nice about this set (and there was also an X-Force set), is the FF is in their Future Foundation outfits.
Like many of the figures in the line, they can have a bit too much articulation and it was a bit of a pain getting the Invisible Woman to stand. Mister Fantastic stood alright. Thing and H.E.R.B.I.E. had no problems standing. Thing is a pretty solid figure with nice detail.
Check them out in action.
== TEASER ==I have to make a note, not toys were hurt in the making of this photo gallery. I showed these images to my daughter and she had a little sad face when she saw Galactus make an appearance. I told her that H.E.R.B.I.E. didn't get hurt but she didn't really like that his head was getting drilled. You can see in the pictures following that he survived his encounter with Galactus.
And hopefully you guys understand what's going on in all the pics.
As for our more classic toys, because JUSTICE LEAGUE #3 came out this week, I figured it was time to bust open the two pack (or pair) of Parademons.
The JLU Parademon two-pack was available this past summer at mattycollector.com but sold out right away. I managed to get them when Matty Collector had a special mystery box sale. For $40 you got a box of figures. The value was well over a hundred dollars. I unveiled the contents of the box in a premium (subscriber-only) video last month.
They look pretty similar, right? They should. That's how they all look. Having them available as a two pack made sense since you can't have just one.
Like all JLU (and DC animated) figures, there isn't much in terms of articulation. That's not what you're buying these figures for. They simply look so cool because they capture the essence of the animated series. And for this photo shoot, I dug out my old animated Darkseid figure from the 1997 animated Superman line.
And if you look carefully, you'll see a certain other figure hiding in the shadows, making an appearance.
That's it for this week. What did you think of the selection? Let us know if you own any of these and be sure to keep an eye out when walking down the toy aisle.
