Awesome Toy Picks: Future Foundation, Parademons & Darkseid

A selection of new and old action figures you should add to your collection.

It's time to check out some cool action figures. Each week we highlight some new items we've found in the toy aisles at the local store as well as some older, sometimes more collectible, items you might have to search online in order to find. Toy packages are open and the toys are analyzed not just on their appearance but also in their quality.

Our 'new' item of the week is a box set from the Marvel Universe line. I found this at Toys 'R Us. It's the Future Foundation...and H.E.R.B.I.E.

There has been separate figures for some of the members and there was even a box set of them in their Fantastic Four outfits. In fact, you can see what they look like on the back of the packaging.

I'm a little torn with the Marvel Universe line. There are some cool figures. It's great having such a wide variety of characters made. I haven't purchased too many, just the occasional cool looking figure, like Moon Knight or Winter Soldier. Sometimes they have pretty cool molding but other times they end up looking a little weird. What's nice about this set (and there was also an X-Force set), is the FF is in their Future Foundation outfits.

Like many of the figures in the line, they can have a bit too much articulation and it was a bit of a pain getting the Invisible Woman to stand. Mister Fantastic stood alright. Thing and H.E.R.B.I.E. had no problems standing. Thing is a pretty solid figure with nice detail.

Check them out in action.

Photobomb!
Look, Sue turned invisible!

I have to make a note, not toys were hurt in the making of this photo gallery. I showed these images to my daughter and she had a little sad face when she saw Galactus make an appearance. I told her that H.E.R.B.I.E. didn't get hurt but she didn't really like that his head was getting drilled. You can see in the pictures following that he survived his encounter with Galactus.

And hopefully you guys understand what's going on in all the pics.

As for our more classic toys, because JUSTICE LEAGUE #3 came out this week, I figured it was time to bust open the two pack (or pair) of Parademons.

The JLU Parademon two-pack was available this past summer at mattycollector.com but sold out right away. I managed to get them when Matty Collector had a special mystery box sale. For $40 you got a box of figures. The value was well over a hundred dollars. I unveiled the contents of the box in a premium (subscriber-only) video last month.

They look pretty similar, right? They should. That's how they all look. Having them available as a two pack made sense since you can't have just one.

Like all JLU (and DC animated) figures, there isn't much in terms of articulation. That's not what you're buying these figures for. They simply look so cool because they capture the essence of the animated series. And for this photo shoot, I dug out my old animated Darkseid figure from the 1997 animated Superman line.

And if you look carefully, you'll see a certain other figure hiding in the shadows, making an appearance.

That's it for this week. What did you think of the selection? Let us know if you own any of these and be sure to keep an eye out when walking down the toy aisle.

I'm getting the FF set for Christmas, and Hasbro are doing Future Foundation Spidey next year

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Is it me, or does H.E.R.B.I.E. look alot like Kevin from Saved by the Bell?

I wish Thing had his FF muscle shirt going on. Woulda made that figure awesome in my perspective.

not the best looking set of FF figures. Could have done better. No Spidey, eh.

The Photo bomb was hilarious

But the packaging is really annoying me. Marvel tried toting Future Foundation as separate from Fantastic Four but the package makes basically no reference to the foundation and I'm annoyed that Spider-man wasn't included. They probably through Herbie in because they knew they couldn't get away with calling it Fantastic four with the three of them but also knew they couldn't include Johnny either.

Nice toys. Fun situations, too.

"Reed! Let`s dance!"

"Sue, I`ve got work..."

Herbie wonders what kind of a social situation this is.

"I hate Darkseid."

"I hate him more."

"No! I hate him more!"

"No! It is I who hates him more!"

"..."

"Oh no."

"I feel insulted, you foolish Parademons."

"We are sorry, oh Darkseid!"

"Please, let us give these paltry gifts, that we stole from a few humans when we last time visited Earth."

"What are they? Some kind of tools of suffering, maybe?"

"Indeed, if they are taken in large doses."

"Interesting...Take a large dose of them, and suffer!"

"Yes, oh mighty Darkseid!"

Love the match stick. Flame on..errr..off....um. Fun stuff!

The FF thing seems like he is making a diet in this one.

Love those Parademons. I cant seem to get into Marvel's 3 3/4 inch action figure line. The X-Force and Guardians of the Galaxy sets almost make me change my mind though.

Can't quite put my finger on it...but...there seems to be something amiss about Sue's >ahem< "upper torso".

Posted by nonfiction91

hahaha, Those are some creative pics, made me laugh without speakigng and thats a hard mission. I like how galactus has a rare smile on his face while crushing H.E.R.B.I.E.

The Fantastic Four colours is the proper version, The Future Foundation is the Variant, as I have mentioned before Spidey is coming as a seperate figure next year.

But having the Future foundation a variant delegitimizes the team.

The costume looks so smooth

The Parademons look awesome I think.

You want some great figures to review, check out Marvel Select Juggernaut, the 6" Thor line Wal-Mart exclusive Loki, Marvel Legends MODOK, DC Direct Arkham Asylum Scarecrow, the recent 2 feet tall AT-AT, and the Hellboy movie lines. All of these would be proper showcases of awesomeness more people need in their lives.

JEALOUS!!!! I want the Future Foundation Variant set, but I can never find that in any retailer I go too... and i DONT want to pay an arm and a leg for it on eBay or something!!!

G-Man, were you able to stretch Mr. Fantastic? :P

Posted by MetropolisKid41

I still can't believe that H.E.R.B.I.E. made it into toy form haha

How?

It makes the team only a phase and variant of Fantastic Four.

If they created an X-Force toyline and marketed it as X-Men variants, people would be pissed.

Only people as irrational as you're being.

Toy variants are a way to release less standard/iconic characters or costumes to fans. Does having a Julia Carpenter variant of the Marvel Legends Spider-Woman or a Dark Phoenix variant of a Phoenix figure delegitimize those characters? Not one bit. And most fans are happy when thrown that bone. If the FF had been the standard release and the F4 had been the variant, would that suddenly mean the F4 were illegitimate?

And yes. FF is probably only a phase of the Fantastic Four. Once they bring Johnny back, it's only a matter of time. Everything returns to the status quo. The Fantastic Four is one of Marvel's mainstays. Even if Future Foundation remains intact after 3 or 4 years, it'll be a secondary part of their corner of the MU.

Having both sets of the Fantastic Four / Future Foundation, i have to say the Foundation set looks much better. I may change my mind if/when the variant pack with the phasing Sue is release (at least i hope its released). For simple repurposed molds, this is a decent package.

Nevermind. Tried to use pics and captions and it wouldn't work right.

Herbie : Oooh, human cuddling. I must record for youtub- I meant science!! Yeah, science.

Herbie: This is a triple ooch.

I love how solemn this pic is. Reed's hand on Sue's shoulder is a sweet touch.
