Awesome Toy Picks: Catman and Hugo Strange (With Batman Head)

A selection of new and old action figures you should add to your collection.

It's time for another installment of Awesome Toy Picks where we take a look at some action figures you can find on store shelves along with some from the past you might have to search for online.

With Batman: Arkham City coming out this week, why not focus on Batman? But we're not going to look at a Batman action figure...not really. This week's pick is that hunter/tracker/thief...Catman.

Catman is part of the Legacy Edition line of figures featuring Batman, Batgirl, Joker and Mr. Freeze. The figures are about six inches tall and each come with an exclusive comic book poster. Looking at the package pictures below, you can see the poster isn't really that big. It also come rolled up very tightly in the package. Here's the sad truth, I actually tore the edge trying to roll it in the opposite direction to try to get it flat so I could take a picture. It's not that big of a deal. I'm not sure if the people that buy these figures are really interested in a mini-poster.

Catman has decent articulation. He comes with removable claws as well as a base he can stand on. With all the articulation, he stands easily, even on flat, outdoor settings. Not even his heavy plastic cape is a problem in getting him to pose.

Check him out in action.

Our retro pick is Hugo Strange from the DC Direct Batman Secret Files Series 3 line.

Hugo comes with an alternate Batman head which is equally cool. It's like getting two figures in one. You can even find him at a reasonable price at places like amazon or just do a search at ebay or other online toy sites. The figures in the line (Vacation Joker, Two-Face and Poison Ivy) were inspired by the art of Brian Bolland. It's a very solid figure and is kind of sharp in areas. It's hard to say which makes the better figure, with the Hugo head or Batman head. Then again, you probably already have a bunch of Batman figures. I was happy to finally take this one out of the package.
