Awesome Art Picks: X-23, Batman, Jean Grey & More

The coolest art of the week that you won't see in comic books.

Get ready to check out the coolest comic book art of the week that you will not see in actual comics. The reason you won't see them in comic books is artists often do commissions or sketches and post them on their blogs, Twittter and Tumblr accounts. They are simply too good to go unnoticed. Each week we try to find as many as we can and share them with all of you.

Everyone likes Batman right? Next week, the awesome BATMAN: BLACK MIRROR collection is in comic shops. This collects the DETECTIVE COMICS run by Scott Snyder, Jock and Francesco Francavilla. Almost as if in honor of the collection, Jock posted a couple Batman commissions he recently did.

Here's another.

Have you watched our Long Beach Comic Con Mystery Art Challenge video yet? Todd Nauck was one of our players and check out these sketches he posted this week on his Twitter page. Apparently he hasn't used watercolors in a while and was warming up. Looks like he knows how to use them.

Want some Wolverine? Here's one from Dustin Nguyen. We're used to him doing DC characters. This is a cool change. Check out more on this Deviant Art page.

Speaking of Wolverine, how sucky was this week's news that his clone, X-23, is not going to have an ongoing series for much longer? Here's a sketch Peter Nguyen posted on his Tumblr.

Joel Gomez posted a Daredevil sketch he did a while ago. This is 'from the vault.' Glad he took it out and posted it.

Speaking of Daredevil, you might have seen the preview for DAREDEVIL #7 marking the return of Paolo Rivera. Here's a character study sketch he posted on his website.

Paolo also posted another Mary Jane commission (different from last week's).

Agnes Garbowska actually reblogged a Francis Manapul commission of Power Girl. Imagine if he was allowed to have her drop into THE FLASH.

Skottie Young did a couple more daily sketches this week. As soon as he posts them on his website, you have the chance to buy the original. Check out his Wormwood Gentleman Corpse and Usagi Yojimbo.

Usagi was also one of the featured characters over at Comic Twart. That's where different artists submit their drawings of the selected character. These are by Ron Salas and Dave Johnson.

And our last image this week comes from Phil Noto. It's a classic picture of Jean Grey and Cyclops circa 1968 (posted on his Tumblr).

It's just so classy.

That's it for this week. Whew. Hope you enjoyed them this week. Be on the look out for the next installment. Feel free to send any cool art from professionals you find. You can send me a p.m. or @ reply me on Twitter at GManFromHeck.

I love Paolo Rivera's art. His painted stuff is great, but my favorites stuff is his line art.

I love Rivera's illustrations.

That Dustin Nguyen X-23 is great. I also really like the Manapul Power Girl. Both are two of my favorite characters in comics, and two that comics has not been so kind to, recently.

The Batman and Wolverine pieces really knocked me out. Skottie Young's work as well, and naturally, all of the art is fantastic. Thanks yet again, G-Man for sharing all these.

One of the best week's worth of submissions yet. I'm loving me some Skottie Young, Phil Noto, and Peter Nguyen. Platonically, of course.

Might I suggest this for the next Awesome Art Picks:

Manapul's Powergirl watercolor is pretty good.

Posted by thechessclub

Apparently Todd Nauck can't draw eyes properly when in a 3/4th shot. That's unfortunate. Jock's stuff is amazing as per usual tho=]
