Awesome Art Picks: Wonder Woman, Superman, Dr. Strange and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics.

Each week we gather up the greatest comic book art that will not be appearing in actual comics. The reason they won't is because artists do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their websites, blogs and Tumblrs. Some artists even arrange commissions through their sites.

Mike Deodato posted several new sketches and commissions on his Tumblr. It's not clear how recent these are but that's not too important. Let's just look at how good they are.

Todd Nauck will be at SDCC this coming week. Check out his UNCANNY AVENGERS cover and classic Kitty Pryde, posted on his Tumblr.

Tony Daniel will also be at SDCC and is set to be on our live stream with Gamespot next Saturday. You'll want to check that out for certain reasons. Here's some sketches he posted on his Instagram.

Brett Booth posted his take on Elongated Man on his blog this week. Also, I somehow missed his Superman sketch from the week before...(Sorry Brett!)

Robert Atkins posted some new art on his blog. Captain America was colored by Alonzo Espinosa and Deadpool by Logicfun.

Skottie Young posted several Daily Sketches on his site. How can we make him drawing a Harry Potter comic happen?

Peter Nguyen will be at SDCC. He posted a few new sketches on his Tumblr this week. He's also taking pre-commissions for SDCC. Here's what he said:

Please email me at ink4884 at with sdcc2013 in the header. Let me know if you want a head, bust or full figure and I’ll give you a quote. I would prefer to do them before the show at my house, just more colors :)

Agnes Garbowska will also be at SDCC. She posted some recent sketches on her Tumblr. She'll be at Table HH-18.

Philip Tan posted some new art on his Facebook page.

Daniel HDR posted a John Stewart commission on his Tumblr.

Ron Salas posted another cool Doctor Strange pic on his site this week.

If you're on Twitter and you love comics, you're likely following Jim Steranko's feed (@iamsteranko). Things get a little crazy on Twiiter at times but let's just say that Phil Noto was inspired to draw and post this Steranko/Skarknado pic on his Tumblr.

Chris Giarrusso posted a sketch of one of his characters, Cool Wraps on his website. If you're not familiar with him, you really should check out the G-MAN comics.

Gene Gonzales posted this Supergirl sketch on his blog. It's up for auction on eBay.

Francis Manapul was at The Comic Lounge raising funds for the Joe Shuster Awards on July 10. Here's a Superman sketch he posted on his Tumblr.

Marcio Takara posted some commissions on his Tumblr. They're pretty breath-taking. His commission list is open. You can email him at for more information.

That's it for this week. Comic-Con is this coming week. There may not be an installment during and I still haven't decided if we'll have a Mystery Art Challenge. Keep an eye out.

Wow, love em all this week(not a big fan of the Agnes baby pics though, not sayin she's not talented, they're just not my type of pictures)

Posted by longbowhunter

@danial79: Yup, they were made for the old cartoon. I've got all three different Jim's, Princess Whatshername and Peter Puppy.

Earthworm Jim... Wicked

Noto, Steranknado, and baby sharks -- cool.

Takara -- nice colors and Wonder Woman. She seems to be ready for the big boss fight, too.

Why the hell isn't Marcio Takara drawing anything for DC?

Wow nice picks this week. Deodato's Harley's expression is great. Noticed the list got longer the last two week with SDCC coming up. My deviantART picks almost doubled.

Great week all around. I'd say my favorites are Manupal's classic Superman and Deodato's Wonder Woman.

Too many great pieces to mention.

The Kamen Rider was interesting. I would like an animated version on Saturday mornings.

Brett Booth has a dinosaur art site. Link

Brett has stopped doing commissions.

I wish Brett would bring back Backlash, he needs to buy Wildstorm. Wildstorm belongs at Image comics.

Who is the second picture that Marcio Takara of? Cobra Commander?

Edited by MyNameWasDeleted

This is atrocious! Wonder Woman is above this... how dare she be posed in this way.

Pin-up cheesecake stuff is so not cool.

@wolverine08: you are a pervy young man, have some respect for an Amazon Princess!

Posted by Wolverine08

I do respect Wonder Woman, but there is no denying how sexy that drawing is!

Posted by Timotheus316

Love me some Invincible but I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Todd Nauck on an X-men book! Good golly!

Posted by newmutants45

That Earth Worm Jim was easily the best this week, all due respect to the other artists. Not a huge fan of Garbowska's art, but I'm happy to see Rapunzel here either way (even if she got her eye color wrong) :D

Batman looks like he just went a couple a rounds with Moon Knight in the first 2 pics

Posted by kartron

@mynamewasdeleted: I agree. I do not like these kind of misuse of character in the form of art.

Posted by Durakken

@kartron: @mynamewasdeleted:

If you people are going to complain about that pose of Wonder Woman you should also complain about the Superman pose. Both are "cheesecake" and neither would ever pose like that. Instead you complain solely about the woman which shows your bias. Complain about both or neither, not 1 or the other. To do otherwise is simply showing favoritism.

liking how diverse the art styles are this week. <--Not sarcasm.

@ianprime: He could have given the art duty of Nightwing(since Booth left)....don't you think?

Posted by movieartman

@wolverine08: you are a pervy young man, have some respect for an Amazon Princess!

please do tell where natural normal sexual desire ends and pervyness begins. oh wait you cant cus you already proved you have no bloody clue what your talking about!

perverse mean something is unnatural, bizarre and disturbing, saying a that awesome sexy woman is awesome and sexy does not in any way fall under thoose categories.

and how the bloody hell does acknowledging a womans beauty and sexuality equal disrespect on ANY level.

i would think the opposite, ignoring her beauty and attractiveness would be far more of a insult.

if i called you a perv or other such words about your natural attraction to (random) hot surfer boys, you would call me sexist and tell me to stay out of your personal business, why dont you stop being a bloody hypocrite and take some of your own medicine.

art is subjective, its very nature exludes it from being misused no matter what is done with it.

its a single tiny sketch to portray a womans beauty how much character can bloody be fit in to such.

The wonder woman was the best
