Awesome Art Picks: The Shadow, Wolverine, Wonder Woman and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comics?

Every week we gather up the best comic book art that won't appear in actual comics. The reason they won't is because artists often do sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their websites, blogs and Tumblrs. Some artists even arrange commissions or sell art on their sites so be sure to check them out.

Rod Reis posted this amazing pic of The Shadow on his Tumblr this week.

Gabriel Hardman posted his Hero Initiative X-MEN #12 100 Project cover on his blog.

Check out this warm up sketch Ryan Ottley posted on his Tumblr along with a sketch of Lobo.

Phil Jimenez was talking about Wonder Woman and was inspired to draw this quick sketch, which he posted on his Twitter page.

Brett Booth posted a bunch of sketches on his blog. You can see some character designs he did before along with the sketch covers to his FLASH and FLASH ANNUAL on sale in April.

Chris Giarrusso posted some Mini-Marvels art on his website.

Ryan Stegman posted a few sketches on his Tumblr we can most likely see completed in the pages of WOLVERINE. The first issue is on sale next week.

Yildiray Cinar posted a couple sketches on his Instagram this week.

Mike Deodato posted this Batman sketch on his Tumblr.

Have you listened to last week's Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podast of Stuff with Todd Nauck? Here's a couple sketches he posted on his Tumblr.

Tim Seeley decided to draw this Batman sketch and posted it on Twitter. It's available for purchase HERE.

Joel Gomez posted some more sketch cards and covers on his Tumblr.

Skottie Young posted another Harry Potter pic on his website along with a Cable Daily Sketch.

Gene Gonzales posted this Lady Blackhawk sketch on his blog.

Artists often get...interesting requests. Daniel HDR posted this "Spider-Beetle" commission on his Tumblr.

Marcio Takara has started doing sketches for Emerald City Comicon. Check out his Tumblr for more information on getting one for yourself.

That's it for this week. Let us know what you thought of these picks. We'll have more art in the next installment.

Slow week for art picks. Nothing bad, just nothing that stands out too much. But considering how much great art we usually get out of this, I'm not complaining.

I am loving that Spider Beetle.

Oh man. I dig it so much. This is by far the coolest thing I've seen all day.

Every week I'm knocked for a loop with these Rod Reis pieces. The Shadow has a very cool Art Deco feel. I love it.

Agree. If people pay money for it, these are the level of quality they should always be at. So awesome pics should be much better than these.

Nice bunch.

I really like Brett Booth's art, don't know why he gets so much hate.

Another nice week. It was a little slower than usual, I only have 22 picks for my deviantART picks this week as well.

I love that Cable by Skottie Young. And Agent Dazzler by Joel Gomez is also very nice.

Booth is a good artist.

The problem is Rapmund, his colorist.

Does anyone else think the girl with the m belt and m headband is miss martian?

Posted by dreamfall31

If, and I hope he never leaves, but if Cliff Chiang has to leave WW I think Takara would be a great artist to put on that book!

The Phil Jimenez WW is soooo good!!!

That's what I was thinking.

@akbogert: I just did some snooping on Brett Booths blog and it is her, but it was for a failed TT spinoff project, but I hope she will still appear soon

Tarkara has most of my favs. Phil's Wonder Woman hit me right in the nostalgia feels though.

LOVE seeing Lady B getting some love.

That Takara sketch of Wonder Woman is gorgeous.

These were my ideas for merging Spider-Man and Tred Kord's Blue Beetle. Both designed by Ditko. Including the original Blue Beetle.

Every week I look at the Awesome Art Picks, and every week I marvel at just how spectacular Brett Booth is. Does anyone know why his art looks so bad in Teen Titans, Batman/Superman, and JLA? I really liked his Nightwing and those two Flash covers, though.

That Ryan Ottley Superman/Darkseid and Lobo is AWESOME! Its cool that Ryan Ottley has been on Invincible nearly 12 years but its a shame we cant see him do anything else. I would LOVE to see him on something like Superman or Shazam but as long as Invincibles around it doesnt look like hes going anywhere.

Takara. Just wow.

That X-Men art is pretty awesome.

Dear DC,

Please use this model for Lobo. And then give him an ongoing with any content label the writer requests. Thanks.

- Sincerely, Everyone.
